NORTH-EAST NEAR TO THE
GROUND INTO BUDDING
AUGMENTATION……… WHO’S
TO BE BLAMED ???????????
Seven sisters…tight spot!!!!
Physical infrastructure
Terrorism
Border trade
Skill development
• North-east receives a terra firma of devastating flood as
a natural disaster which wipe out the roadways
• Heavy monsoon causes the land slides which disconnects
the north-east from other parts of India creating a havoc
Roadways
• Railways wide spread with broad gauge connectivity only
in the centre connecting the North-East i.e. Guwahati
and few other districts in Upper Assam
• Railway development in other locations has been
deprived off due to domestic and extremist violence
Railways
• North-east though contributes to a total of 8 % of the
land area of India encompassing a single international
airport located at GuwahatiAirways and waterways
• Urbanization is still lacking in the extreme remote areas
of North-east
• Villages need to be developed into towns for trade,
economy and commerce
Township
CONSERVATION OF
NATURAL
RESOURCES-
• CONSERVATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES-North-east being a hub of biodiversity and
natural resources, unawareness is still on a mind stage with the people over there which
needs to scrub out by creating awareness
TRAINING AND
AWARENESS-
• TRAINING AND AWARENESS- There are hardly any good professional training institutes
IT
• Few corporation in The North-Eastern regions has lead to less job opportunities
compared to the rest part of India
 Vicinity wise Boundary trade:- North-East shares 4500 kms of International border( about 90% of entire border area)
 Connectivity improvement- Integrated check posts and border trade need to be developed
Scenic beauty and tourism is
exaggerated in terms of monetary
loss towards North-East by the
terror campaign propelling in
North-East
Industrialization is lacking
specially In ASSAM and other
North-Eastern states due to
demand and extremist violence in
North-East
Serial Bomb blasts has distressed
the human mentality with a view
of terror in everyone's mind
Physical infrastructure
Problems:
 Lack of funds
 Lack on the part of the central government to take infrastructure initiatives
 Non desire of the giant investors for investments
 Natural calamities --- the biggest hurdle
 No interest of the local allied people to make investments
Solutions:
 More number of funds should be sanctioned by the government
 The especial Ministry (DONER) should take more initiatives in building up the entire North east region
 Especially in this region there is a need for “big giants” investors (like TATA, BIRLA, RELIANCE, ITC etc.) to make
investments for building the region
 If this is done the North east region would be benefitted by the Corporate Social Responsibility policy of the
companies
 Need to have modern equipments of technology to tackle this problem
 “MAHASHARAK” project that was proposed by Vajpayee government was about to finish by 2005 which joins Assam
to Gujarat and Kashmir to Kanyakumari by one single road, the rest of the places are enjoying the fruit of this
project except Assam ( Barak valley:-30 km work is still left from Silchar to Haflong). Central govt should look after
this matter and speed up the work
Problems:
 Mass unemployment
 Lack of development
 Lack of proper educational facilities
 Neglect of the central government to look into the problems & issues of the N.E, region
Solutions:
 More number of job opportunities should be available
 Development should be made by the government and more funds should be generated for the said purpose
 More educational institutions (i.e. premier educational institutions like IIT, IIM’s, and IISC etc.) should be created
 The corporate can also play a big role in the educational institutions (For eg. Institutions like BITS, TISS, TIFR etc)
should be encouraged by the government to take initiatives
 Need of the hour to look into the problems & grievances of the problems of the N.E. region
Problems:
 Lack of International trade with the eastern nations
 Lack of International railway & roadways with the other nations with the N.E. regions
 Look East policy ---- a dream project
 Less number of Free Trade Agreements with the neighbouring countries associated with the North eastern
region
 Lack of Most Favoured Nations treaties with the other nations
Solutions:
 Connectivity should be established by proper routes in the eastern regions and the neighbouring countries
associated with the N.E. region
 More number of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) should be entered into by the government with the
other nations
 More Free Trade Agreements should be entered as in the case of European Union & India
 More interest to fulfil the Look East Policy...... which is still a dream project and once it becomes true Guwahati
would be the hub of the N.E. region
 Less number of taxes to be imposed.(i.e. certain exemption in customs taxes with the countries having trade
with the N.E. region)
 Most Favoured Nation treaties should be signed with the countries bordering the Eastern nations
 More number of institutions need to be set up
 North-east is rich in culture so people over their need a proper platform to showcase their talent
 State like Gujarat have set up entrepreneurship institutes and creating awareness from the school level
onwards and even they are getting fund from World bank so why can’t North-east follow their foot-steps
 Proper hands on training should be given in farming (specially bench terracing) to improve the skill of the
farmers
