2. How Much Control And Pressure Should Parents Exert Over...
The second real life scenario that we ll be investigating in relation to the knowledge question, How
much control and pressure should parents exert over children? is the lives of child prodigies.
A child prodigy is defined as: a person who, at an early age, develops one or more skills at a level
far beyond the norm for their age.
Although nature does play a factor in their ability, child prodigies are also often strongly pushed
and controlled by their parents. Their abilities can thus, to a certain extent, be seen as a result of
their parents raising methods.
I ll be introducing two such child prodigies.
The first of these is William James Sidis. Sidis was born on April 1st, 1898, to a family of brilliant,
but neurotic parents. His father, Boris Sidis, was a professor of psychology at Harvard, and saw his
son s birth as an opportunity to perform experiments on the human psyche on a live specimen.
Specifically, Boris put intense academic pressure on William.
At five, William was learning Latin, Greek, Russian, French, German, and Hebrew. At the same
time, the media constantly hounded him and monitored his progress: Sidis lived a life of constant
scrutiny.
By nine, his father had forced him to enrol in Harvard; by twelve, he was a lecturer.
But by his sixteenth birthday, Sidis retired from Harvard after a heavily publicised mental
breakdown and began to lead a life of total seclusion, abstaining from even academia. Sidis took on
odd jobs, such as working at a printing

The highest mortality rate in trauma patients with massive haemorrhage initially develops with
hypothermia, coagulopathy and acidosis. Coagulopathy, which can be defined as the disorder
whereby the body experiences the inability of the blood to coagulate, together with hypothermia
and acidosis, form the three main components of the trauma triad of death (Anthony et al, 2005)
and in lieu of this fact, it is important to ascertain the role of temperature on maintaining
homeostasis. With this in mind, an experiment to investigate how the temperature of clotting

This organ system has a number of functions namely, to keep a constant body temperature as
well as to ensure coagulation occurs specifically at the site of injury, as well as to ensure no
added blood loss occurs to cause life threatening effects. This process of blood coagulation is
explained in three interconnected phases. In the first phase, the enzyme thrombokinase is activated
due to the damage of tissue and the breaking down of platelets. Prothrombin is converted into
thrombin by the disintegration of the thrombocytes, electrically charged calcium ions and other
coagulation factors, as well as the blood activator and tissue activator which become involved in
the coagulation process. The second phase includes production of the thrombin that transforms
fibrinogen in the blood plasma into fibrin. The thrombus (or blood clotting) is formed by a
fibrilliform mesh that encloses the blood cells. Lastly, the third phase, which takes place as
retraction occurs of the fibres of the fibrin mesh. Solidification of the fibrous mesh takes place
which closes the defect in the vascular wall. Coagulation is then followed by fibrinolysis (re
dissolution of the clot).
Hypothermia, an important factor of coagulation as mentioned earlier, is described by Danzl et al
(2009) as a potentially fatal condition when the body loses more heat than it can regenerate. The

4. Curiosity In Fitcher s Bird
In Fitcher s Bird, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm emphasize that curiosity [gives] no rest as the women
could not contain their suspicions of what was behind the door of the locked room (Bird 1). The
Grimm brothers provide the reader with a life lesson focusing on how innocence and curiosity can
ultimately lead to your downfall, but with the help of family, you can learn to overcome those
obstacles and prevent those situations from happening again. Although all three sisters gave into
their temptation of curiosity, each individual sister learned that curiosity [kills] the cat and that
people will take advantage of your innocence.

The third sister is the key to the other sisters coming of age process because although they
learned their lesson, the third sister is the one that put their body parts together and got them
back home safely. For example, the Grimm brothers describe the third sister as clever and shy to
separate her from her sisters and their curiosity that got the better of themselves (Bird 2). By
possessing these characteristics, the third sister was able to still see what was behind the locked
door, yet be clever enough to get away with it by carefully [setting] the egg aside , so the egg
would not be stained with the blood of the previous victims (Bird 2). Also, once the third sister
passes the test of not opening the locked room, the sorcerer then made her his wife. Therefore,
the third sister takes over the position of power by making the sorcerer secretly carry his sister s
body parts in a basket back to her home. Because the third sister had the position of power, she
used her sly characteristic as a tool to invite the sorcerer and his gang for a wedding feast that was

6. My Life, Basketball, And My Philosophy Of Basketball
My adult life, and my philosophy on life was shaped on a basketball court, and by my father. He
was the coach of my AAU girl s basketball team, and he instilled in us a philosophy of hard work.
We were no normal girl s basketball team, and My father s coaching philosophy rein on a team of
twelve as we waited our turn to take the court. Anticipation greeted determination in rhythmic
thuds in the background. The pace of the rhythm ever so often broken by a screech of rubber to
maple. Hard work brought us to this last scrimmage against the opposing team. As an AAU team,
our practices in Pennsylvania were purposely constructed against stronger and more developed
players. As women, we trained against male players with a men s ball. We brought agility whereas
they brought strength. My father, coach Ed , designated weekend scrimmages against the best
AAU teams in our county. The practices resulted in gaining stride as we vectored against a
multitude of opponents. It was these practices that brought us to that courtside moment, seven
hundred and ninety three miles from Pennsylvania, where we were anticipated medaling in the
State Games of America. Two hours and twenty minutes later, each of us twelve doe eyed girls
announced victory with a freshly polished tin and copper medal fitted into the palm of our hands.

Problem Solved? Or A Scratch on the Surface?
Brief analysis on Plain English Movement
Writing, generally speaking, ought to be an instrument for conveying ideas from one mind to an
other efficiently. Conventional legal composition, on the contrary, appears to be overwhelmingly
complicated to the public.
Occurring and then prevailing since the 1970s, the well known Plain English Movement (we mainly
cope with the movement in the USA) seems to have offered a commonly welcomed solution to this
problem. However, disputes still remain in the legal academia in regard to the actual efficiency of
the Movement.

The Plain English Movement, while achieving in making legal documents shorter and spreading a

makes it impossible for Plain English to be compatible with the logic of law. This essay is not
arguing that Plain English movement is bad, but merely analyses its defects at present. The idea
behind the Plain English Movement is highly endorsed owing to its effort to enhance public
understanding of legal documents.

The value proposition to the plumbers is the relative ease of installation that reduces the time by

fix problems at their own expense. Further, they can pass along the installation jobs to their
apprentices. This frees them up to make more money on larger jobs and also ameliorates the

2. Why is the Quartz not selling?
The Quartz sales are suffering for many reasons primarily due to positioning errors on the part of
the Aqualisa management. The market entry strategy is ill defined and lacks a clear direction.
They have failed to hone in on a target niche as well as to develop an effective product induction
strategy. This is further exacerbated by the lack of buy in on the part of their most important allies
in the sales processes the plumbers.
Furthermore, the enduring perception that electric showers are inherently faulty and inferior
products has continued to plague the shower industry en masse. The faulty electronics have
historically proven more costly to plumbers who must cough up their own money to cover repair
costs.
It s also clear Aqualisa hasn t done a good job in managing its product lifecyles to proactively to
stay ahead of its competitors. They continue to gain on the Aqualisa market share and are only 2
years behind Aqualisa and closing fast.
On the sales and marketing end, teams are focusing about 90% of their attention on existing
customers and not targeting new ones.
Brand awareness in the entire segment is very poor among consumers that often defer to plumbers
or developers to select the shower unit for their bathrooms.
The market entry strategy suffers because the cost is extremely high in the DIY market compared
to its own less expensive Gainsborough brand thus creating a conflict among

The 1960 s was a happening decade. It was a time when many people came together for a

one ridden with hippies, marijuana and pacifism. While true of much of the era, some of the
movements calling for immense social change began as non violent harbingers of change and later
became radicals. The reason for this turn to radicalism, as seen in the case of the Students for a

The Power of Satire in Babbitt and The Simpsons
Sinclair Lewis used his writing to promote the enrichment of American society by attacking the
weaknesses he perceived in his era. His most notable work, Babbitt, is a satire on the middle class
lifestyle and attitude of the 1920s. Lewis satirical style and voice is comparable to the modern
television series The Simpsons, written by Matt Groening. Babbitt and The Simpsons contain
numerous similarities in satirical writing, presentation and commentary. Matt Groening satirizes

Babbitt comes back with, Let em criticize! (Lewis 353). Babbitt eventually realizes how much his
liberal mindedness is hurting his family and image, and resorts back to being a sound businessman
with a mechanized workday.
Sinclair Lewis and Matt Groening use similar satiric writing styles that mock the middle class
lifestyle of their eras. Lewis and Groening use their unique styles of hidden humor to satirize the
cruel domination of business, obsessions with status and material possessions, the lack of culture,
mechanical thought, religious issues and prohibition to express their feelings of distaste and
uneasiness towards their time period s values and compliant lifestyles.
The tyranny of business and all its twisted ethics are very apparent in Babbitt and The Simpsons.
In Babbitt, Lewis points out the corrupt nature of business dealings and their effects on other
people. An example is the Lyte Purdy deal where Babbitt gets Lyte to buy some property next to
Purdy s lot where Purdy planned to expand. By Babbitt helping Lyte, the price is marked up by ten

Good Night, and Good Luck, is a film made by George Clooney in 2005. In response to the Iraq
war. It follows the story of Sig Mickelson played by Jeff Daniels. A newscaster who is set in his

having a communist red scare.
This film did transitions amazingly every time a there was a major change in the plot. The
audience hears a female singing in a film with almost no music at all. This really help the
audience see that some major change is happening. And on the topic of transitions/ camera work.

with not wrapping up the film and leaving open end/ to the audience s imagination. Is that it

the plot. This seems to be found in a lot of these art house/film festival films. But overall it just
feels like the film could have been two hours not the 90 minutes that it is. Now saying that this is
one film that would be not the same if you cut 10 minutes out of. Dissimilar to a lot of the mass

Overall Good Night, and Good Luck was a great film by George Clooney. It shows film makers
how to use color or lack of, angles, and transitions. It also shows off how a small low budget film
can keep you on the edge of your seat the same ass large block busters, and it also is able to

The short story The Things They Carried , written by Tim O Brien, is a story written in 1986 in
the setting of the Vietnam War. The main character, First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross, is a young

Brien s short story tell us what tangibles the men carry with them that are necessities for the

them in a time of fear. These possessions express the character of the men in the squad. All of the
men in the squad carry something with them whether it is tangible or intangible that defines who
they are. These things that the soldiers carry with them are not only items strapped on their
shoulders but they are now a part of who they are during this period of time in their lives. During
the war the soldiers would carry things other than weapons. This included carrying things out of

Now, how do these two theorems help in analysing a penalty shootout?
Let us first see what a penalty kick is? When do players receive a penalty kick?
Penalty kick is a direct free kick that is taken from the penalty spot which is 12 yards from the
goal. Only the goalkeeper is allowed to stand between the player taking the penalty kick and the
goal. All other players need to stand behind the penalty taker. Penalty kicks are performed during
normal play. They are awarded when a foul that is punishable by a direct free kickis committed
within the offending player s own penalty area. Similar kicks are made in a penalty shootout in
major international tournaments such as the World Cup to determine which team is victorious after
a drawn match.

Although the goalkeeper dives after the striker has kicked the ball, he cannot actually wait to the
ball comes off the foot to decide which way to dive because the ball moves so fast, it will already

observing any relevant information from the striker.
This type of game is actually very common. Both players pick a side. One player wants to match
sides (the goalie), while the other wants to mismatch (the striker). That is, from the striker s
perspective, the goalkeeper wants to dive left when the striker kicks left and dive right when the
striker kicks right; the striker wants to kick left when the goalie dives right and kick right when
the goalie dives left. The same case happens in basketball where a shooter wants a defender to

task to design a health care reform proposal that provided health care benefits for all Americans.
When Clinton was elected the country was suffering from setbacks in the realm of healthcare
polices from the previous president. With congress being one of the key players they started to
develop plans that would provide universal health coverage ideas with: physicians, large businesses,
lawmakers, and many interest groups. When all this started to occur Clinton felt that the majority

22. Erin May Be Liable For Tort Of Negligence
Going by the scenario of incident given in the pleasure boat mishap, Erin may be liable for tort of
negligence where a person s conduct falls below a reasonable standard and harms another.
However, in order for there to be a successful claim against Erin in the court, the following elements
of tort of negligence has to be established; that she owe a duty of care to any potential claimant,
that she has breached that duty of care, that her breached of the duty of care caused the harm
suffered by the claimant, and that the damage was not legally too remote.
The court will also consider whether Erin foresaw the harm and whether the parties acted in a
reasonable way.
There is the possibility that Erin might be liable to several parties which includes; each of the
holidaymakers on board the pleasure boat at the time of the accident (subsequently referred to as
holidaymakers), the estate of Rio and Anya (dead victims), and Sneha, Wayne and Zak (mental
breakdown victims).
We will take each potential claimant case one by one.
The Holidaymakers v Erin
For the holidaymakers to make a successful claim against Erin, they must first of all establish that
a duty of care exited between them and Erin. Applying the test for duty of care as established in the
case of Caparo Industries v Dickman [1990] 1 All ER 568; would a reasonable person foresee the

24. What Is Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs
Theory One of the many interesting things Maslow noticed while he worked with monkeys
early in his career, was that some needs take precedence over others. For example, if you are
hungry and thirsty, you will tend to try to take care of the thirst first. After all, you can do
without food for weeks, but you can only do without water for a couple of days! Thirst is a
stronger need than hunger. Likewise, if you are very very thirsty, but someone has put a choke
hold on you and you can t breath, which is more important? The need to breathe, of course. On
the other hand, sex is less powerful than any of these. Let s face it, you won t die if you don t get
it! Maslow took this idea and created his now famous hierarchy of needs. Beyond... Show more

All of the preceding four levels he calls deficit needs, or D needs. If you don t have enough of
something i.e. you have a deficit you feel the need. But if you get all you need, you feel nothing
at all! In other words, they cease to be motivating. As the old blues song goes, you don t miss
your water till your well runs dry! He also talks about these levels in terms of homeostasis.
Homeostasis is the principle by which your furnace thermostat operates: When it gets too cold,
it switches the heat on; When it gets too hot, it switches the heat off. In the same way, your
body, when it lacks a certain substance, develops a hunger for it; When it gets enough of it, then
the hunger stops. Maslow simply extends the homeostatic principle to needs, such as safety,
belonging, and esteem, that we don t ordinarily think of in these terms. Maslow sees all these
needs as essentially survival needs. Even love and esteem are needed for the maintenance of
health. He says we all have these needs built in to us genetically, like instincts. In fact, he calls
them instinctoid instinct like needs. In terms of overall development, we move through these
levels a bit like stages. As newborns, our focus (if not our entire set of needs) is on the
physiological. Soon, we begin to recognize that we need to be safe. Soon after that, we crave
attention and affection. A bit later, we look for self esteem. Mind you, this is in

A Real Life Maycomb
Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird about a little Alabama town called Maycomb. What is
interesting is how Maycomb compares a lot to the town that Ms. Lee grew up in, Monroeville,
Alabama. The history of Monroeville and the way it was in the 1930s makes a reader wonder if
Ms. Lee took her hometown and made it the famous small town in the novel. By looking back to
the history of Monroeville s founding, the way it was in the 1930s, the way it almost mirrors
Maycomb and the way it is it today, one can see that Ms. Lee s used her experiences to create one
of the most famous towns in literature.
Monroeville, Alabama is located between Montgomery and Mobile. Before it was developed as a

Many poems carry heavy emotion with them, some with the beautiful aspects of nature, others
speak of bittersweet moments that bring something out of each reader that may come across it, but
almost all incorporate the use of setting to convey an emotion. In particular, one poem by acclaimed
Victorian author Alfred Lord Tennyson, brings together two opposing emotions and ties them
together. In the poem, The Lady of Shalott by Tennyson, the setting affects the overall mood by
creating brightness, a move from bright to dim, and dismal moods. In The Lady of Shalott, the
setting contributes to the mood by producing a bright atmosphere. As the story unfolds, various

When describing the place that the Lady of Shalott lives in he writes, Four grey walls and four

imprisoned, and the four grey towers further give this impression because it shows that she is
high up somewhere far away from the ground. The next sentence, however, is a lighter tone
speaking of flowers. Following this is something that the Lady of Shalott sees through her mirror
one day, A funeral, with plumes and lights, and music, went to Camelot. The Lady of Shalott
speaks not of a wedding or a party but a funeral, which foreshadows her eminent demise. A
funeral, in most cases, is a sad affair, but here it is said to be full of lights and music, which
brightens the mood again. Finally, Or when the Moon was overhead, came two young lovers lately

indicate the start of darkness in the story. Furthermore, the two young lovers draw attention to her
own loneliness, and is the first indication that she feels saddened by being isolated. The poem then
has a setting that moves from cheery mood to a dismal

33. The Theory Of Developmental Psychology
Developmental psychology is viewed as different approaches which aims to look at how children
and adults develop. Theories such as Bowlby s attachment theory can explain how a child s
development can be altered by their attachment, thus leading to the ideology of the nature vs
nurture debate, nature referring to the process of biological maturation while nurture is referring to
the impact of the environment or surroundings, which involves the idea that a person learns
through experiences. (McLeod, S. A, 2012)

Monotropy acts like a framework through the internal working model. Bowlby stated that infants
are born with innate social releasers which encourage the caregiver to provide care. Furthermore
this primary attachment needs to happen during a time called the critical period (Holmes, 1993).
This is supported by Lorenz (1935) who took a large clutch of goose eggs and kept them until
they were about to hatch out. Half of the eggs were then placed under a goose mother, while
Lorenz kept the other half beside himself for several hours. Lorenz found that geese follow the first
moving object they see, during a 12 17 hours critical period after hatching. This process is known as
imprinting. However, there are flaws in this evolutionary theory, which is Schaffer and Emerson s
research of 60 infants in Glasgow concluded that all infants made a primary attachment, this
supports Bowlby s assumption of monotropy. However they also found that infants made multiple
attachments which undermine this. (A2 Psychology 101, 2014)
Another principle of the attachment theory is the need to develop social, cognitive and emotional
skills. To relate this to the attachment theory, the child would of had a primary caregiver who
reinforced social, cognitive and emotional development, if a child was not being stimulated
accordingly bowlby s theory of maternal deprivation this would result in long term cognitive, social,
and emotional difficulties. This is supported by

might be so resistant to believing the claims is because people have already been hanged for

Maybe the most ideal candidate in my humble opinion I believe is Oklahoma State s offensive
coordinator Mike Yurcich. To me, Yurcich checks ALL the boxes we need in a new head coach
at this point in time, as we sit with a record at 1 9 with zero PAC 12 wins in 2017. Like the other
coaching candidates, Yurcich has one obvious flaw that I m sure Beaver nation has questions
about. Like Les Miles, Yurcich has no real ties to the West coast. However, I hope to explain why I
believe Yurcich could turn another orange and black OSU into one of the most explosive offenses
in the country.
Yurcich, 41, a native of Euclid, Ohio, attended California University in Pennsylvania about 36 miles
outside of Pittsburgh and graduated in 1999. He spent three seasons as the Vulcan s starting
quarterback and was a two year captain.
Yurcich s first college stop came as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Saint Francis
University in Indiana from 1999 2002. Then Yurcich served as a graduate assistant for Indiana
University football from 2003 2004.
In 2005 he moved on to Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, where he served as the quarterback
/wide receivers coach in 2005 and then was promoted to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks and
wide receiver coach from 2006 2010. During his time at Edinboro with Yurcich calling the offensive
plays, the

42. The Break Up
Introduction
Effective communication is one of the most important things to maintain a happy relationship.
Communication will help to create a better atmosphere and to know what are the interests, thoughts
and feelings of your loved one. All romantic relationships need a lot of communications from both
sides. The main factor is interpersonal communication, which couples are able to overlap
environments and create a relationship. We reviewed the movie The Breakup and have found the
concepts of Integrating, differentiating, and terminating. This movie shows how ineffective
communication can dissolve a relationship. The lack of communication is the main factor why
Brooke and Gary break up. This couple tends to rely on other people instead ... Show more content

In this stage is where the me messages begin to occur forgetting about the we orientation. (Alder,
2012) One evening Brook and Gary become having arguments in the dinner in front of all their
family. The argument begins because Gary wanted to get a pool table in the condo, Brooke didn t
agree with him and a conflict begins. Both of them begin to start talking about their own interests,
forgetting about the interest of them as a couple.
The third concept we choose to write on is Terminating. According to the book Looking Out
Looking In, terminating is the stage where relationships deteriorate until they reach their final
stage. Not all relationships end, many of the marriages last for a lifetime, but other relationships
have the desire to dissociate. (Alder, 2012) Like it was the case of the movie, Brooke decides to
terminate the relationship because she felt that there is nothing much left. She believed that Gary
did care much about her. But the problem really was that both of them didn t find a way to
communicate effectively. Although Brooke and Gary loved each other very much it was
impossible for them to be together because of the lack of communication.
Description of the film. According to Claudio Carvalho, The Break up, was written by Jeremy
Garelick and Jay Lavender and it was directed by Peyton Reed. The main producer of this movie
was Stuart M. Beeser, and the main stars were Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn
. This movie was

43. Golden Age Of Athens
Athens had what is known as its Golden Age between 480 and 430 BCE, and while it was a
relatively short period of time, it laid the foundations of western civilization.
As the Golden Age dawned, the autonomous poleis (city states) that had formed in the preceding
two to three centuries had set aside their differences and united to face the threat of invasion posed
by the Persian Empire. Though vastly outnumbered, the Greeks had finally defeated the Persian
armies in 480 BCE. In the years of peace that followed, the Greeks made significant advances in art,
literature, science and philosophy, as pride and patriotism drove them to greater heights of
creativity and in Athens, an experiment with a new kind of government flourished under the
statesman Pericles.
Prior to about 600 BCE, Athens had been an oligarchy, with an aristocratic minority controlling its
government. But enlightened Athenian leaders began instituting reforms to the city s government
between 600 and 500 BCE. Solon (c. 638 558 BCE) introduced a new code of laws that was less
harsh than Athens existing legal code (laid out by an Athenian statesman called Draco, hence the
term draconian to describe repressive laws) , and also set up a Popular Assembly of Citizens,
although a council of aristocrats still made the laws.
Cleisthenes (c. 570 508 BCE) known as the Father of Democracy expanded democracy still
further, creating a Council of 500, which consisted of 50 representatives from each Greek tribe. He

44. Critical Incidents Of Academic Institutions
Critical Incidents in Academic Institutions The critical incident technique is used to gather and
analyze an employees behavior through methods such as observation and interviews (Andersson
Nilsson,1964). This technique is useful in collecting information regarding behavior that amounts
to successful or unsuccessful in a performance (Peterson, Jeanneret, 2007). The procedures utilized
in the critical incident techniqueallows for the similarities, differences and patterns of behaviors to
be analyzed. This process aids in the solving of problems, and establishing principles (Hughes,
Williamson, Lloyd, 2007; Flanagan, 1954). According to Shapira Lishchinsky (2010), utilizing
critical incident reports in schools assist in enabling the management of errors, support and
autonomy, which in turn reduces ethical friction. In regard to the schoolsetting, critical incidents
include minor incidents that occur daily in schools. Because of the nature of the job, middle
school teachers can face critical incidents that involve both moral and ethical conflict (Shapira
Lishchinsky, 2010). However, the classification or weather it is negative or positive is based on
the meaning given by a teacher, observer, etc. Nonetheless, critical incidents and behaviors are
important to identify as it can be detrimental to a teachers professional career (Shapira Lishchinsky,
2010). One example of a positive critical incident for the middle school teacher is teachers who
behaviordemonstrates
