Commercial distribution of ECF-ITM vaccine in East Africa and Malawi

Microbacteriological quality of milk consumed in Kigali and Musanze cities (...

This document summarizes a study on the microbiological quality of milk consumed in Kigali and Musanze cities in Rwanda. Milk samples were tested for bacteria indicators and Salmonella. Results found relatively high levels of milk contamination, with the highest levels in milk commercialized by mobile traders. Contamination was associated with a lack of cooling infrastructure and knowledge of hygienic handling practices. Recommendations include enhancing vendor knowledge and skills in hygienic handling, strengthening milk commercialization regulations, and supporting infrastructure for mobile traders to maintain milk quality and safety during distribution.

INTRODUCTION Kenya is well known worldwide as a tourist destination.Kenyans are hospitable and the services they offer are efficient and varied.In addition,Malindi town has established itself as a truley tourist centre that could be used for displaying our cultural art,drama,music and natural endowement.in view of this,the Malindi County Council in patnership with the Ministry of Tourism wants to deveelop a tourist terminaland information centre at Malindi Town.This will act as a hub for tourists in ths part of the coastal region.In addition , the centre attempts to embody the aspiration and pride of the Swahili People to both the overseas and local tourists. OBJECTIVES The objective of this project is to demonstrate understanding of how to design environmentally friendly buildings in a warm humid climate where design development effectively takes care of thermal control and cooling effects.In designing this project ,the guiding parameters should be conservation of urban space and its heritage.The students should demonstrate all the lessons lernt in terms of use of local materials,environmental control and conservation of both buildings and urban fabric.All this contextual aspects should be integrated in the design of the centre.The other objectivesof this programme are to acquaint students wih the following: 1.The environmental conditions of the costal region and appropriate design solutions 2.The physical,socio-cultural and economic dimensions of the costal people 3.Architectural qualities of a historic urban settlement.

Taiwan has established a food safety system organized under the Department of Health, with the Bureau of Food Safety and Bureau of Food and Drug Analysis responsible for safety registration, guidance, and nutrition. Local health bureaus also play a role. For imported foods, the Department of Health and Bureau of Food Safety inspect at ports of entry, with local authorities overseeing afterwards. Several laws and regulations govern food safety and quality in Taiwan developed according to the Acts. Taiwan participates in international food safety organizations and works to improve transparency, research, and risk assessment as part of its food safety system.

The Kentucky Mobile Processing Unit (MPU) was developed to help small farmers in Kentucky access markets by providing a mobile facility to process small batches of poultry and seafood. A collaboration of experts from various state agencies and universities managed the MPU. They developed safe processing methods and a training program. Producers must be trained and approved before using the MPU. The MPU is overseen by state inspectors and can travel to process products while following HACCP food safety plans and guidelines. The MPU has helped small Kentucky producers safely process and sell their products.

Global trends in accreditation and certification include: 1) Increased focus on social responsibility and environmental responsibility standards in addition to traditional management system standards. Scheme owners are adding modules to address issues like social and ethical sourcing. 2) A push for greater harmonization and recognition of private food safety standards at a global level through organizations like GFSI benchmarking schemes. 3) Consolidation of audits where certifying bodies can audit multiple standards during a single audit to reduce costs and duplication for suppliers certified to multiple standards.

The briefing presented trends and discussed the sustainable and healthy food systems, the future of work in agriculture and the need for new skills in very complex food chains, the effects of disruptive innovations, fair and inclusive value chains and trade. The briefing brought various perspectives and experiences on agroecological systems to support agricultural transformation. Experts presented trends and prospects for agroecological approaches and what it implies for the future of the food systems. Successes and innovative models in agroecology in different parts of the world and the lessons learned for upscaling them were also discussed.
