This document presents the findings of a study on rural-urban differences in learning outcomes among public primary and secondary school students in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study analyzed test performance data in various subject domains from a sample of 13,740 primary 4 pupils and 4,395 JSS 2 students. The results showed that rural primary school pupils performed relatively better in literacy and life skills, while urban pupils performed better in numeracy. At the secondary level, rural students performed better in general science, while urban students performed better in mathematics and English. The study concludes that policy focus should be on improving performance in English and mathematics in rural secondary schools, while maintaining strengths in literacy and life skills at the primary level in rural schools.
