This document describes RumahPintar, an Internet of Things mobile app for controlling devices and monitoring sensors in a smart student housing environment. The app uses NodeJS and socket.io to enable real-time communication between Raspberry Pi devices, a virtual private server, and Android mobile apps. Websockets allow for fast, simple event-based communication compared to conventional HTTP requests. An early prototype demonstrated controlling a lamp and monitoring temperature and humidity from a DHT11 sensor. The source code is available on GitHub under the MIT license.
