Tips for Excellent Titles, Descriptions and Tags
Titles, descriptions and tags are instrumental in helping buyers search for and find your file. They're also your best
tool when it comes to effectively advertising your item on the Marketplaces. Think of them as the first glimpse buyers
get of your item!
Item Titles
The Limitations
 Must be no more than 100 characters including spaces
 English characters only
Tips and Hints
Your title is the very first thing a potential buyer sees, so it's important to be informative, concise and professional.
Include the most relevant information only, and avoid fluff. A title full of vague advertising buzz words is less effective
than one that is clear and descriptive.
Examples of Good Titles
 “This is the File Name” – Capitalize the first letter in each word. Small words like “of” and “an” may be lowercase.
 “Template with CMS” – Capitalize acronyms and abbreviations like XML and PSD.
 “WordPress Template” – Do follow the industry standard even if it doesn’t follow the normal capitalization rules.
For example, use jQuery and WordPress instead of Jquery and Wordpress.
Examples of Bad Titles
 “THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE” – Do not use all caps.
 “this is also not acceptable” – Do not use all lowercase.
 “Beautiful File” or “The Best Template” – Do not use subjective words like brilliant, amazing, or best. These words
describe your opinion rather than what the file actually is, and aren't helpful for potential buyers.
 “User9909 – File Name” – Do not append your username or any other less-relevant information to the file name.
 “Apple-like Design” – Do not describe what your item is similar to in its title, describe what it actually is.
Item Descriptions
The Limitations
 Your description must accurately describe all elements of your main file.
 If your preview includes any images, fonts or other assets not included in the main file you must note this.
Tips and Hints
Your description must accurately describe your item, its technical and aesthetic qualities, requirements and
limitations.
 Explain your item in clear, plain language. Not every buyer will be an expert in your field, so it's important to make
sure that you're not going to confuse them.
 Include all relevant technical specifications and limitations of your item. For example, if you are selling a set of
icons, are the icons individual files or do they all come on a single .PSD? Are the icon colors editable? Are vectors
included as well? What dimensions are included?
Once you've satisfied those requirements, it's time to think about how to best promote your item and yourself. Item
descriptions have a lot more to offer in that regard than titles or tags— you can include more text, images and can
customise the look of your description with HTML.
 Put yourself in the buyer's place. If you were looking for an item like yours, what would you search for? What
information would you need to know? What sets your item apart from the rest?
 Include example images of your item "in action", without misleading potential buyers. Make sure it's clear exactly
what they receive in the main download.
 If your portfolio on any of the Marketplaces includes items related to the one you're describing, consider including
links to those items.
 Make sure your description is readable. Long blocks of plain text are hard on the eyes. Break your description up
into relevant paragraphs with clear headings to keep buyers interested.
We've put together a basic guide on HTML to get you started on creating top-notch descriptions.
Item Tags
While the Marketplace search engine will take a look at all the title, text, and attributes of the file, quality tags are the
most important tool for search. Tags should accurately describe your item, its specifications, subject matter, context
and style.
The Limitations
 PhotoDune: maximum of 50 tags.
 AudioJungle, GraphicRiver and 3DOcean: maximum of 30 tags.
 ActiveDen, ThemeForest, VideoHive and CodeCanyon: maximum of 15 tags.
 Tags must be separated by commas, spelled correctly (using American Standard English) and should relate to
your item, its specifications and its possible uses.
 Do not use the same tags for every item. Each tag must be relevant to the item it is applied to.
Tips and Hints
 Identify subjects or elements. – Any keyword list should start with the concrete subjects or elements in your
submission. Subjects are frequently nouns or activities. E.g., flower, piano, banner, rotator, house, echo, teaching.
 Identify context, industry, or uses. If your item applies to a larger industry, profession, or field, make sure a key
applies to it. E.g., business, chemistry, music, career.
 Identify functionality or features. Identify the functional elements, if any, in your file. Functionality can include
a “contact form” in a theme, “tileable” in a texture, or “gallery” in a layout. Features can also include important
attributes that buyers may search for.
 Identify Mood or Style. Choose a couple of keywords that communicate the thematic mood of a file’s design, or
the design style. Don’t forget abstract terms like seasons, emotions, or concepts. Note: Avoid using over-used tag
terms like “Web 2.0″ or “sleek.” These terms are popular and frequently applied incorrectly, which means poor
search results for buyers.
 Clarify. Make sure your terms are clear and not ambiguous. For example, if you included the tag “bar” did you
mean…
o a pub where alcohol is served?
o a physical object like a crossing-bar?
o Bar, as in the verb “to stop or prevent”?
o a navigation bar for the web?
o a legal term or organization?
Add additional tags if it can clarify the elements and features of your file. Frequently, words for the context of another
tag can help. “Bar” and “alcohol” might be used to search for a pub, while “Bar” and “traffic” might be used to search
for a crossing bar or physical object.
 Check your spelling. Misspelled tags will not come up in searches for correctly spelled words. You can check
your spelling with on-line dictionaries such as Merriam-Webster or the American English version of the Cambridge
Dictionary.
 Use phrases – Tags don’t have to be a single word. If your file is an illustration of a brown bear, you may use the
two word tag “brown bear.”
 Use lowercase – Do not capitalize words in tags unless they’re an acronym (e.g., NASA, RAID, etc).

A step-by-step guide to the upload process
This article outlines each step of the upload process for all of the Envato Marketplaces (except for PhotoDune).
Follow it as you upload your items to ensure that your submissions meet our formatting and technical standards.
To learn how to become an author on any of our Marketplaces, see this article.
For an introduction to the Marketplaces for authors, see this article.
PhotoDune is a little different to our other Marketplaces. If you are uploading to PhotoDune, click
here to view the PhotoDune upload guidelines.
Name & Description
Your item name and description must accurately describe your item and its elements. They should both provide
relevant information that makes it easy for buyers to find items meeting their needs.
The name field should always be relevant, concise, and professional looking. The following are examples of good
and bad naming practices:
Good:
 “This is the File Name” – Capitalize the first letter in each word. Small words like “of” and “an” may be lowercase.
 “Template with CMS” – Capitalize acronyms and abbreviations like XML and PSD.
 “WordPress Template” – Do follow the industry standard even if it doesn’t follow the normal capitalization rules. For example,
use jQuery and WordPress instead of Jquery and Wordpress.
Bad:
 “THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE” – Do not use all CAPS.
 “this is also not acceptable” – Do not use all lowercase.
 “Beautiful File” or “The Best Template” – Do not use subjective words like brilliant, amazing, or best. These words describe your
opinion rather than what the file actually is.
 “User9909 – File Name” – Do not append your username or any other less-relevant information to the file name.
 “Apple-like Design” – Do not describe what your item is similar to in its title, describe what it actually is.
Your description must accurately describe all elements of your main file—ensure you mention anything shown in the
preview not included in the main .zip and note if any main element is rasterized, outlined or otherwise not editable. If
you're using non-standard fonts in your item, these must be documented in your description. Get some tips.
You should not include links to external, competing services including items for sale on your own website. For more
information on this see our full article, What links can I place in my item description, preview, or the in download
itself?
Note: If you're uploading to the GraphicRiver print templates category, additional requirements apply.
Files
Image Preview
Create a 590x300 JPG for your preview image. Make sure your preview image is an accurate representation of your
file. Your preview image must not contain trademarks or images of celebrities.
Note: GraphicRiver and 3DOcean allow preview images of any height.
AudioJungle doesn’t require a preview image.
ActiveDen allows either an image preview or a live .swf preview. See this article for more.
Thumbnail
Create an 80x80 JPG, PNG or GIF for your thumbnail. Make sure your thumbnail accurately represents your file.
Main File
Save your main files into a .zip folder, including all instructions. Ensure the files are organised in a clear and orderly
fashion.
Marketplace-specific instructions for preparing your main file:
 VideoHive
 ThemeForest
 GraphicRiver
 ActiveDen
 3DOcean
 CodeCanyon
 AudioJungle
Preview Image Set (Optional)
You can provide additional preview images. They must be JPGs no larger than900x900px, and named in the order
that you want them to appear using the following format: 01_preview1.jpg, 02_preview2.jpg, 03_closeup.jpg. Create
a .zip folder containing your additional preview images.
Category & Attributes
Choose a suitable category for your file.
Select which filetypes are included in your download (you can select multiple items by holding down the CTRL key on
Windows or the COMMAND key on OS X).
Select which software and versions of software your file can be opened in.
Ensure you match any attributes in these forms to the attributes of your file.
For example, dimensions on GraphicRiver, polycount on 3DOcean and length on AudioJungle.
Note: If you're uploading to the GraphicRiver print templates category, additional requirements apply.
Note: When uploading to AudioJungle, ensure that you have correctly entered the lengthof your
file. For single music file and ident submissions that include variations, you must enter the
length of the longest file in the set. For sound and ident packs, you must enter the length as the
total length of all the files.
Tags
Tags should be lower case, separated by commas, spelled correctly (using American Standard English) and should
relate to your item, its specifications and its possible uses. Do not use the same tags for every item. Each tag must
be relevant to the item it is applied to.
 For AudioJungle, GraphicRiver and 3DOcean you may enter up to 30 tags.
 For ActiveDen, ThemeForest, VideoHive and CodeCanyon you may enter up to 15tags.
Note: Tags may be more than one word. EG. “community service”, “cross-media”.
What links can I place in my item description, preview, or the in
download itself?
Your links should be respectful of the Marketplaces and not seek to drive traffic to any external, competing service
(including linking to items for sale on your personal website). The only links you should use are:
 Items that need to be attributed or sourced such as Creative Commons imagery you may have used in your item
preview, or watermarked marketplace items
 Support forums if you run external support services for your items
 Social media accounts such as your Twitter feed
 Links to CMS’s, API’s, or other tools you are using with your file
Be mindful that linking to competing sites and brands is governed by a fair use policy. We ask that authors use
common sense and not promote alternative ways to purchase the same or similar items through other websites and
services.
This policy extends to links from live previews of items and support forums, which should also not promote an
alternative service. If you are a non-exclusive author, this may necessitate a separate live preview intended
specifically for the Envato Marketplaces.

  • 2.  Include all relevant technical specifications and limitations of your item. For example, if you are selling a set of icons, are the icons individual files or do they all come on a single .PSD? Are the icon colors editable? Are vectors included as well? What dimensions are included? Once you've satisfied those requirements, it's time to think about how to best promote your item and yourself. Item descriptions have a lot more to offer in that regard than titles or tags— you can include more text, images and can customise the look of your description with HTML.  Put yourself in the buyer's place. If you were looking for an item like yours, what would you search for? What information would you need to know? What sets your item apart from the rest?  Include example images of your item "in action", without misleading potential buyers. Make sure it's clear exactly what they receive in the main download.  If your portfolio on any of the Marketplaces includes items related to the one you're describing, consider including links to those items.  Make sure your description is readable. Long blocks of plain text are hard on the eyes. Break your description up into relevant paragraphs with clear headings to keep buyers interested. We've put together a basic guide on HTML to get you started on creating top-notch descriptions. Item Tags While the Marketplace search engine will take a look at all the title, text, and attributes of the file, quality tags are the most important tool for search. Tags should accurately describe your item, its specifications, subject matter, context and style. The Limitations  PhotoDune: maximum of 50 tags.  AudioJungle, GraphicRiver and 3DOcean: maximum of 30 tags.  ActiveDen, ThemeForest, VideoHive and CodeCanyon: maximum of 15 tags.  Tags must be separated by commas, spelled correctly (using American Standard English) and should relate to your item, its specifications and its possible uses.  Do not use the same tags for every item. Each tag must be relevant to the item it is applied to. Tips and Hints  Identify subjects or elements. – Any keyword list should start with the concrete subjects or elements in your submission. Subjects are frequently nouns or activities. E.g., flower, piano, banner, rotator, house, echo, teaching.  Identify context, industry, or uses. If your item applies to a larger industry, profession, or field, make sure a key applies to it. E.g., business, chemistry, music, career.  Identify functionality or features. Identify the functional elements, if any, in your file. Functionality can include a “contact form” in a theme, “tileable” in a texture, or “gallery” in a layout. Features can also include important attributes that buyers may search for.  Identify Mood or Style. Choose a couple of keywords that communicate the thematic mood of a file’s design, or the design style. Don’t forget abstract terms like seasons, emotions, or concepts. Note: Avoid using over-used tag terms like “Web 2.0″ or “sleek.” These terms are popular and frequently applied incorrectly, which means poor search results for buyers.  Clarify. Make sure your terms are clear and not ambiguous. For example, if you included the tag “bar” did you mean… o a pub where alcohol is served?
  • 3. o a physical object like a crossing-bar? o Bar, as in the verb “to stop or prevent”? o a navigation bar for the web? o a legal term or organization? Add additional tags if it can clarify the elements and features of your file. Frequently, words for the context of another tag can help. “Bar” and “alcohol” might be used to search for a pub, while “Bar” and “traffic” might be used to search for a crossing bar or physical object.  Check your spelling. Misspelled tags will not come up in searches for correctly spelled words. You can check your spelling with on-line dictionaries such as Merriam-Webster or the American English version of the Cambridge Dictionary.  Use phrases – Tags don’t have to be a single word. If your file is an illustration of a brown bear, you may use the two word tag “brown bear.”  Use lowercase – Do not capitalize words in tags unless they’re an acronym (e.g., NASA, RAID, etc). 3, quy tắc đặt tên để upload A step-by-step guide to the upload process This article outlines each step of the upload process for all of the Envato Marketplaces (except for PhotoDune). They should both provide relevant information that makes it easy for buyers to find items meeting their needs. The name field should always be relevant, concise, and professional looking. The following are examples of good and bad naming practices: Good:  “This is the File Name” – Capitalize the first letter in each word. Bad:  “THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE” – Do not use all CAPS.  “this is also not acceptable” – Do not use all lowercase.
  • 4.  “Beautiful File” or “The Best Template” – Do not use subjective words like brilliant, amazing, or best. These words describe your opinion rather than what the file actually is.  “User9909 – File Name” – Do not append your username or any other less-relevant information to the file name.  “Apple-like Design” – Do not describe what your item is similar to in its title, describe what it actually is. Your description must accurately describe all elements of your main file—ensure you mention anything shown in the preview not included in the main .zip and note if any main element is rasterized, outlined or otherwise not editable. If you're using non-standard fonts in your item, these must be documented in your description. Get some tips. Your links should be respectful of the Marketplaces and not seek to drive traffic to any external, competing service (including linking to items for sale on your personal website). The only links you should use are:  Items that need to be attributed or sourced such as Creative Commons imagery you may have used in your item preview, or watermarked marketplace items  Support forums if you run external support services for your items  Social media accounts such as your Twitter feed  Links to CMS’s, API’s, or other tools you are using with your file Be mindful that linking to competing sites and brands is governed by a fair use policy. We ask that authors use common sense and not promote alternative ways to purchase the same or similar items through other websites and services. This policy extends to links from live previews of items and support forums, which should also not promote an alternative service. If you are a non-exclusive author, this may necessitate a separate live preview intended specifically for the Envato Marketplaces.
