As we head into a new year, one thing is for sure, the world of technology and IT will continue to evolve and be disrupted at a frightening pace. The role of the modern IT organisation will thus need to adapt and be agile in order to keep pace with this changing landscape and to continue to be valuable to the organisations that they service. As IT estates become more complex, internal IT functions will need to become more mature and efficient in the way they operate in order to be perceived as a valued asset to the business. The release of IT4IT at the end of last year provides an interesting and potentially highly valuable reference architecture for IT organisations to use to help achieve this level of maturity and efficiency.
The IT4IT standard has really started to pick up momentum as we start 2016 and it is great to see the increase in the membership of the IT4IT forum as well as the general interest that is being seen in the industry for this new standard. I recently co-presented a webinar in collaboration with the Open Group where we looked at the potential real-world application and benefits that IT4IT can offer. Mandate and mindset will be critical to the successful use of IT4IT but I am confident that this approach has the potential to be very beneficial for many organisations as the role of the IT function continues to be redefined.
Digital Team Structure: The Foundation for InnovationNTEN
The document summarizes research on digital teams at non-profit organizations. It finds that most digital teams are small (1-2 people), located in communications departments, and rely heavily on contractors. Top roles include social media, strategy, and content production. Teams manage many online properties and social media channels but lack necessary staffing and skills. While social media efforts are considered effective, digital programs overall are only somewhat effective and underfunded. However, most organizations plan to increase digital spending next year, indicating recognition of the importance of digital.

Handprinting refers to quantifying the positive consequence of a company or organization, its products or services and how it relates with all its stakeholders. The goal for an organization that engages in measuring its handprint isn't simply to minimize its negative impact, but to maximize its positive influence while enhancing operational efficiency and profitability, and to pursue net-positive sustainability in which its handprint exceeds its footprint. Join this session for a crash course on reimagining how a brand measures the success of its sustainability initiatives.

OSI Group's Sustainability Report 2016-2017 OSI Group
OSI recognizes that our generation cannot
compromise the development needs of future
generations. For that reason, sustainability is close
to our hearts.
Although we may not have always used the term
‘sustainability’ in the past, it’s true to say that we

we do. We continue to work hard to ensure we care

in three key areas:

SUSTAINABILITYOur values show every time we convert to
energy-saving light fixtures at a facility,
support a customer seeking to improve
sustainability, or create inclusion programs
that value every employee.
Corporate responsibility requires an organization to define its
values and continually work to strengthen its commitment to the
highest ethical and environmental standards.
We have a comprehensive commitment to sustainable
environmental practices, diversity among our employees, health
and safety initiatives, and to giving back to the communities
around the world that we call home.
Our values show every time we convert to energy-saving light
fixtures at a facility, support a customer seeking to improve
sustainability, or create inclusion programs that value every
employee.
To protect the environment, we create best practices that guide
us to use our resources efficiently and help our supply chain
adopt sustainable practices. We work to reduce, reuse and recycle
wherever possible in all of our facilities around the world.
We’re working to make a difference in places like our Shenzhen,
China facility, where we have a regenerative thermal oxidizer
that reduces 99% of the volatile carbon emissions from our web
printing process stack air. In addition to treating the process air,
the regenerative thermal oxidizer runs on natural gas and is
designed to be 92% thermally efficient. We have over 40 locations
with similar pollution control devices.
Organizations around the globe have recognized our work with
awards and certifications that attest to our commitment to quality.
In today’s competitive environment, maintaining acceptable levels
of quality is a significant accomplishment that means achieving
compliance with many different customer, legal and
organizational requirements.
Our commitment to safety remains our top priority. Today,
hundreds of our global manufacturing facilities routinely work
one million hours without a lost time injury – a remarkable
achievement. Many of our locations have achieved VPP Star
Status, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s
recognition of exemplary performance. Our Recordable Case Rate
is more than half of the nation’s print industry average, yet we will
not rest until we reach zero injuries.
We also firmly believe in creating workplace environments that
truly value diversity and inclusion, provide training, and promote
leadership. We value and support our employees’ impressive
community volunteering activities. In this report, we share many
examples of how our employees use creativity, innovation,
inspiration and compassion as they try to help solve problems
confronting the company and the communities in which we work.
Impressive achievements like ours do not just materialize. Hard
work and leadership from individuals and teams willing to take
responsibility for making a difference in the world is what
ultimately writes the chapters of RR Donnelley’s corporate and
social responsibility record.
At RR Donnelley, we are proud of our commitment to both the
safety of our employees and to protecting the environment and we
will continue to set and strive for the highest safety performance
and for the lowest environmental impact on this world we share.

“I personally have experienced mentorship that is filled with guidance, motivation and inspiration. There’s a reason that a 150-year-old
company continues to survive under very challenging economic climates throughout its history. I believe this survival is due to the people
that it attracts, and in turn the legacy they leave behind generationally. I have thrived here because people have believed in me and
aligned my talent with work and teams where I can confidently make a difference.”

“I joined the company through Udaya, an inclusion program for orthopedically-challenged individuals. The initiative not only made me
competent, but also helped me communicate, and today, my life has new meaning. No one notices my disabilities. On the contrary,
everyone notices my abilities. It is when I step out of the facility that I realize how different things are. I have grown so much that the last
four years have seen me receive two promotions and about a half a dozen best performer awards. I can never forget nor even dream of
leaving this company because no one understands what it truly takes to be an equal opportunity employer better than RR Donnelley!”

introduced the Leadership Academy designed to improve
managers’ skills and better equip them to manage, lead and

consists of three levels: Executive Mentoring Leadership
Development; Management Diploma; and Management
Certificate.
■ “Inspiring tomorrow’s talent today” is a new work experience
collaboration between RR Donnelley in the U.K. and one of
its city law firm clients. In July, six 17-year old pupils from
La Sainte Union School in Camden spent two weeks at our
client’s London office, where 14 RR Donnelley employees are
based. During this time, lawyers and staff at each company
gave talks on commercial property law, marketing, creative
services and graduate recruitment opportunities. One of the
students commented, “Meeting someone from a minority
background, like myself, who is a barrister with a firm from
Cambridge has made me realize what can be achieved. I also
realized that you don’t have to be one personality type to
engage in law. I thought you had to be very reserved but you
can be outspoken and confident, too.”
■ RR Donnelley Pittsburgh now supports a national graphic arts
program and competition called Skills USA (http://skillsusa.org)
that has students, teachers and industry groups work together
to ensure America has a skilled workforce. The committee is led
by Heidelberg Engineering, and RR Donnelley is providing
support by lending subject matter experts to lead the prepress
component and to serve as judges in other areas of the
competition to be held in Louisville, Kentucky in 2015. As a
Skills USA participant, we have an opportunity to recruit
talented students interested in pursuing a career in the
graphic arts field as well as students in other technical fields
such as HVAC, Electronics, and IT, to name a few. In all,
there are over 80 technical areas of competition. This will
be a win-win as the educators’ primary goal is to provide their
students with the skills that they will need in a career, and
we will be providing insight into what knowledge, skills
and abilities are valued to perform a job in our company.
■ The RR Donnelley facility, in Streamwood, IL, was asked by
their local fire department if they would train all of their area
departments and educate them about our facility, structure,
our processes, the materials we use and what is involved with
a larger commercial facility so they are prepared to handle a
fire emergency in such a facility. We trained one day a week,
twice per day for a period of three weeks with 4-8 responders
in each group.
Health/Well-Being
■ RR Donnelley has installed fans in many warehouses,
including Bolingbrook and Aurora IL, and York PA, to improve
air circulation and make employees more comfortable in both
hot and cold weather. We also added new tips to the fans to
increase air flow.
■ In Lodz, Poland, we offered our staff a chance to get tested on
a Smokerlyzer so they could see the effects of smoking on
their bodies. We also distributed leaflets on-site in an effort
to support smoking cessation.
■ At Plover, Wisconsin, we provided convenient, on-site annual
influenza vaccinations to employees.
■ In Chennai, India, we held general health checkups, eyecare
checkups, opportunities to make blood donations and dental
camps. More than 1,800 employees used the services, and
more than 350 employees donated blood. The team in
Trivandrum also collaborated with health experts to conduct
awareness sessions on sinusitis and musculoskeletal
disorders.

“Today, REACH has become a movement. It is no longer the exclusive preserve of a small
sub-section of the larger employee base but a shared social conscience. It has become a
common vision that has broken the barriers of geographies, functions and cultures. Outreach
programs are on the agenda of our business leaders and they are leading by example –
inspiring our employees to do more and be more. Our Strategic Volunteering programs
resulted in over 10,000 volunteer hours being logged across the Global Outsourcing platform.
In 2015, we will be implementing structured programs in the areas of Health and Safety,
Community Outreach and the Environment and will be measuring impact at the macro and
micro levels.”

Operating with integrity and the highest ethical conduct is the cornerstone of RR Donnelley company values. Our Principles of Ethical
Business Conduct (PEBC) policy applies to everyone at RR Donnelley and governs all areas of professional conduct, ethics and
compliance. These policies are not some esoteric, dusty concepts on a shelf. They are very much a part of daily life at RR Donnelley,
present in a million choices and decisions we make each day. Integrity goes hand in glove with our bedrock of ethics. It is integrity
and depth of character that compels us to do the right thing. Our Principles of Ethical Business Conduct handbook addresses these
important areas:

In order to promote a culture of adherence to our Principles of
Ethical Business Conduct and to prevent, detect and correct
illegal or unethical conduct, we have an Ethics and
Compliance Program comprised of these key elements:
The Board of Directors, primarily through its Governance, Responsibility Technology Committee is responsible for overseeing
implementation of the Program and compliance with the Principles of Ethical Business Conduct. Operational responsibility for the
Program has been assigned by the Board to our Ethics and Compliance Committee, comprised of 14 executives from all parts of

and employee of RR Donnelley to comply with the Program and policies.

affect everyday decisions.
■ Monitoring, Auditing and Evaluating: We measure compliance.
■ Reporting Violations: We use processes that encourage
employees to voice concerns about potential ethics and
compliance violations.
■ Corrective Action: We reduce negative effects, focus on
prevention and cooperate with government investigations.
■ Incentives and Discipline: We encourage ethical behavior and
discipline those who fail to comply, or who violate ethical
standards.
20. GLOBAL CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILIT Y
Being consistent is especially important when employees act
across borders and across cultures. Our ethics and compliance
policies apply wherever we operate, assuring behavior that
builds trust. We empower all employees to make a difference
and to offer solutions. A vital part of this process is an open flow
of communication.
Our Open Door Policy is among our oldest and most important
practices. We were one of the first companies to create one.
It rests in a shared belief that all employees should be able to
raise issues and speak their minds to make our company the
best it can be. The ‘open door’ also encourages us to treat one
another with respect and reminds us that we are united in the
same business goals, values and ethical standards.
Our determination to operate ethically applies everywhere we do
business, and is also a commitment to our stakeholders. It is
the foundation on which we build excellence throughout
the company.

environmental health safety
We have a comprehensive management system so we can
effectively control our Environmental Health Safety (EHS)
impacts worldwide. This system uses a model that matches
well‑accepted international management standards, such as ISO
and the principles of OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program.
RR Donnelley was named Company of the Year in the 2014
Gravure Management Excellence Awards presented by the Gravure
Association of the Americas. The company also received awards
in the employee safety, environmental sustainability and
employee development categories.
Our company has clearly defined EHS roles and responsibilities.
We empower teamwork on EHS issues by having open lines of
communication all the way from facilities to senior management.
Any RR Donnelley business unit can quickly deal with any EHS
issue and can just as quickly take advantage of new opportunities
to improve the environment, safety and well-being of our people.
Every level of our organization has EHS responsibilities.
Regional EHS teams give us strategic direction and improve
decision-making with issues relevant to our global operations.
We have a company EHS Policy that we make available to
the public in eight languages. It guides all of our internal
programs and practices, and states our commitment to:
“… continuously improve global EHS performance by utilizing
practices that protect employees.”
As a Fortune 500 company, we have all of the right tools,
procedures, and processes in place to manage safety
compliance. However, we go beyond simple compliance. We’ve
also created an environment in which every employee, every day,
looks out for his or her own safety as well as the safety of others.
This program and our employees’ dedication have allowed us to
earn a Recordable Case Rate that is 51 percent below the U.S.
print industry average. Even so, our goal remains zero injuries.
And this is not a goal on which we’re willing to compromise.
We also focus intently on employee health and well-being by
improving work environments and offering health events and
wellness coaching.
ENVIRONMENTAL
HEALTH SAFETY
RR DONNELLEY’S POLICY is to strive to continuously improve global
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) performance by utilizing practices that
protect employees and the environment, including reducing the quantity of
emissions, developing opportunities for recycling and pollution prevention, and
using paper, energy and other resources more efficiently. Customers are pursuing
these same kinds of goals and they are increasingly seeking to work in cooperation
with their key suppliers to improve sustainability and reduce costs.

22. GLOBAL CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILIT Y
We not only work to ensure that our employees leave work in the
same condition in which they arrived, but our goal is for
employees to leave the workplace with a stronger safety mindset
through the education provided in the workplace. We stress the
importance of prioritizing safety, even when not at work. Our
safety program includes continuous safety training for both their
professional and personal lives. But the true difference in our
employee safety program is the accountability of our employees.
Training at RR Donnelley goes far beyond safety. We recognize
career needs and provide ways for employees to learn what they
need in order to advance. For example, our leadership programs
help high-potential employees improve their leadership abilities.
Across our diverse business landscape, training is tailored to
improve employee skills and effectiveness.
Our EHS story is one of good citizenship, and good stewardship
of our people, the environment and all whom we touch.

RR Donnelley’s safety performance is well below the corresponding industry average, and
that is worth celebrating. Here’s why. Each year, the OSHA Recordable Case Rate for the
entire North America printing industry is calculated. This rate measures how often employees
in our industry are injured in accidents on the job. In 2014, our worldwide recordable rate was
51% below the industry’s average – reflecting the exceptional safety performance that our
employees continue to achieve. Safety is the first and most important measure of operational
excellence at RR Donnelley, so exceptional performance is worth celebrating.

ENVIRONMENT
■ Our San Bernardo, Chile, facility completed an audit to obtain
certification from the federal environmental agency as a
Clean Manufacturing Print plant.
■ Our San Juan del Rio, Mexico, plant earned the Clean Industry
Certificate given by the Federal Environmental Protection
Office, and achieved ISO 14001 certification.
Our Tlalnepantla facility successfully obtained the Clean
Industry Certificate in 2014.
■ Our Shanghai Information Technology Co., Ltd. opened at the
Jinshan Industrial Park. The Jinshan facility has the leading
Continuous Paper 4C Inkjet Digital Printing Production Line in
the world. As the eighth plant in RR Donnelley China, the Jinshan
Print on Demand (POD) plant is the starting point of a new
“publishing prior to printing” business model, thus minimizing
the amount of materials consumed and wastes produced.
■ In 2014, GPS Europe printing plants in Poland gained EU
Ecolabel certification for printed products – signifying low air
and water pollution during the paper production and printing
process, reduced environmental damage or risks related to
the use of hazardous chemicals, and increased recyclability.
■ More than half of the paper we used in Poland and Hungary
in Q4 2014 met the chain of custody standards of the
Forest Stewardship Council®
(FSC®
) or Programme for the
Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
■ Printing Control, an RR Donnelley company, was the first
commercial printer in King County, Washington to earn
EnviroStars’ prestigious five-star rating for their innovative
environmental programs. Printing Control has decreased their
production of hazardous waste from 372 pounds per month
in 2002 to almost zero.
■ Two RR Donnelley facilities in San Diego, CA are
implementing a new technology that uses battery storage to
reduce electrical demand peaks in the plant. The batteries
charged during periods of low plant demand will discharge
during periods of high plant demand, to reduce the amount
of energy supplied to the plant by the regional utility.
■ RR Donnelley Green Bay and De Pere, WI facilities seek
alternative materials and methods that will significantly
reduce the amount of volatile organic compound (VOC)
emissions into the environment. Through these efforts, the
plants were able to reduce the combined volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) generated during the manufacturing
process by 10% while volume of work grew by 11% in 2014.

extreme hot or cold weather events, to allow local utilities to
manage demand without brownouts or investment in costly
generation capacity.
We reuse, repair, repurpose and recycle our process materials
and by-products to limit what enters the waste stream. We work
with our customers and suppliers to make packaging
environmentally responsible. RR Donnelley also teams with
others to share and learn best practices in sustainability. These
include the Sustainability Committee for the Local Search
Association, the Business Roundtable and the Gravure
Association of Americas.
RR Donnelley has extensive supply-chain expertise and
continues to focus on environmentally responsible products.
We collaborate with our customers and suppliers to help
minimize our combined effects on the environment. From our
associations with certified forestry initiatives to our sourcing of
more sustainable inks, our collective efforts help each of us to
minimize the environmental footprint of products produced.

Resource Efficiency
■ The new Knutsford, United Kingdom site powers its electricity
from 100% renewable sources.
■ Our U.K. facilities in Barnwood, Gateshead, Huntingdon,
Lancing, Leicester, Tewkesbury, Watford and Edinburgh have
been certified to the ISO 50001 Energy Management
System. The purpose of ISO 50001:2011 is to enable
organizations to establish the systems and processes
necessary to improve energy performance, including energy
efficiency, use and consumption. Implementation of this
International Standard is intended to lead to reductions in
greenhouse gas emissions and other related environmental
impacts through the systematic management of energy.
The implementation of the standard also ensures we are
compliant with energy legislation – Carbon Reduction
Commitment Regulations (CRC) and the Energy Savings
Opportunity Scheme Regulations 2014 (ESOS).
