UI elements should look like UI elements and buttons should look clickable. Animations should be under 200ms to avoid appearing slow. Speed improvements benefit all users while other features may only benefit 5-10% of users. Provide context and explain the end goal to help users overcome things they don't understand. Focus on communicating values and benefits achieved through product use rather than just features. Measure key indicators first before adding more metrics to avoid getting lost in too much data. Use cohorts and funnels to identify where users may be getting stuck. Popular tools for analytics include Mixpanel and Intercom while books like The Inmates are Running the Asylum and Running Lean provide guidance on UX best practices.

A Minimal Viable Product that works
The term "Minimal Viable Product" has become so widely used that is seems to have lost its meaning. There is growing confusion whether the MVP is a "pre-launch" version of an online or mobile produce, or an "alpha" or "beta".
Creating the MVP is an excellent way of establishing whether a business idea is likely to fly in the real world. But, all too often I see people getting tanged up in the technicalities of what the MVP should include. And, when that happens, the purpose that the MVP should serve becomes forgotten or lost.
This presentation shows you how a logical process of creating two MVPs in quick succession will help anyone that is creating a web or mobile product to spend less time and money on creating a sustainable business by minimising the risk of "getting it wrong".
The advice applies to anyone, no matter how big or small the budget. And I can wholeheartedly testify that people who have applied this precise process have:
1. Saved hundreds of hours of efforts which would have taken them in the wrong direction,
2. Helped businesses that had built a product but found uptake lacklustre to reposition their offering to attract a much higher rate of customer acquisition and retention.

Smartphone Heuristics

For many Agile teams, delivering software is the end of a journey. We ship one feature, have a beer, and move on to the next highest feature on the product backlog. However, shipping software is simply the beginning. Several studies cite that users on average use less than 30% of the features in a software application, yet our goals and metrics seem aligned with shipping more features. Agile teams talk more about increasing throughput or reducing cycle time than building features that better engaging with their users, so in some ways, Agile has actually accelerated the pace of ‘feature-itis.’

Conversational UI: How to walk the talk
Here are some ways we can enhance voice and chat UIs for data input:
1. Use voice for simple on/off inputs like checkboxes and switches.
2. For selections, present options visually through chat and allow voice or text selection.
3. Break up complex forms across multiple conversational turns to reduce cognitive load.
4. Autofill known fields like name, address using user profile for voice and chat.
5. Allow editing suggested text for fields like names via voice or text.
6. Integrate other modalities like touch for selections when voice recognition is difficult.
The key is to leverage the strengths of each modality based on task and use multimodal input where needed

It has the potential to provide relief from heat for hundreds of millions of people worldwide who cannot otherwise afford air conditioning.

EVR Motors has developed a new direct drive generator for wind turbines that is at least 50% lighter than existing designs.
