Rough Trade was a record store opened in 1976 in West London that began distributing records for independent bands leading to the formation of a record label. Some of the early bands on the label included Scritti Politti and The Raincoats. The label's first major success was Stiff Little Fingers' album "Inflammable Material" which sold over 100,000 copies. Due to expanding distribution needs, Rough Trade moved to a new location in 1980 and continued releasing albums by bands such as The Fall, Pere Ubu and Young Marble Giants. The label signed The Smiths in 1983. After financial difficulties in the early 1990s, Geoff Travis and Jeannette Lee relaunched Rough Trade in the
