As of 2009 there were over 33,000 clubs with about 1.2 million members. 2) Younger people make up a smaller portion of Rotary membership, with 70% of members being over age 50. Retention of new members is a challenge, with about 50% of members leaving within 3 years. 3) To attract younger members, some clubs are experimenting with new formats like community-based Rotaract clubs, new generation Rotary clubs, and e-clubs that use different communication methods and offer more flexibility.
