Rotaractors participated in several service events in early October, including rebuilding an Oakland middle school, cleaning up a Berkeley beach, and renovating a Berkeley youth center. They also attended a large Rotaract conference in Davis with over 100 attendees. Upcoming events include fundraising for breast cancer research through a movie screening and 5k walk, and a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Vitamin Angels to provide vitamins to children in need. The newsletter encourages members to apply for a Rotarian mentorship program and attend an entrepreneurship workshop, and outlines the club's rewards points system for members.

6. LOCAL: EMPTY BOWLS @ OCT 13 A night of performances and delicious food support the Alameda County Community Food Bank and their fight against hunger.

8. BIG WEST CONFERENCE AT UC DAVIS @ OCT 15 Our 2nd Annual Big West Conference! We traveled all the way to UC Davis, meeting Rotaractors from all across the west coast, including one who traveled from Mexico!!

15. DID YOU KNOW…? Nearly one-third of the world’s children are undernourished. Vitamin A deficiency is the leading cause of preventable child blindness. An estimated 250,000 to 500,000 vitamin A deficient children become blind every year. Half of them die within 12 months of losing their sight. Approximately 535 million children worldwide are at risk of becoming vitamin A deficient. A simple, cost-effective dose of vitamin A every six months, which costs less than 25 cents a year, can reduce under-five child mortality by about 24% in at-risk populations
