The Seasons of Frost
I. IntroductionA. Frost was referred to by many as the best American poet of the 20th century.	B. His poetry captured life in metered yet natural verse.
II. Frost’s Writing Style	A. Frost developed his own theory of poetry. 1. His goal was to use the everyday rhythm of speech in verse. 2. He rejected the forced patterns and rhymes of the 19th century poets.
B. Frost found beauty in nature and used it in his poetry. 1. Many of his poems have humor, and center on individuals as they interact with nature. 2. As an example in his poem “The Mending Wall” he used a situation of repairing a wall between two farms.
C. Frost uses Metaphor in his works. 1. He builds upon the use of imagery to create compelling metaphors. 2. An example is found in his poem “Nothing Gold Can Say.”
IV. Comparison to Other Authors in the 20th Century A. Frost is very similar to Nathaniel Hawthorne. 1. Even though Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote short stories rather than poems, he also wrote a lot about nature. 2. He uses everyday speech in his works as did Frost.
	B. Frost is very different from Ralph Waldo Emerson. 1. Emerson was a romantic unlike Frost. 2. Romantics use imagination to create stories and poems, whereas Frost related his works to real life.
V. Conclusion A. Studying Robert Frost is beneficial because he is a great example of poets in the 20th century. B. The most interesting thing about Frost is he recited his poem “The Gift Outright” at John F. Kennedy’s inauguration.
