Sebastian Deterding argues that all designs have a persuasive element and influence how people act. Even seemingly innocuous objects like classroom chairs suggest certain ways of teaching and learning. Deterding also suggests that our designs reveal our values and can have unintended consequences for consumers that we must consider. While thought-provoking, Deterding does not try to impose his ideas but rather starts an open-ended conversation about how our work can positively or negatively impact others.
