Romulus and Remus were twin brothers in Roman mythology who are credited with founding the city of Rome. According to legend, they were the sons of the god Mars and a Latin princess. As infants they were abandoned and then rescued and raised by a she-wolf until they were old enough to build a new city along the banks of the Tiber River, which they named Rome after Romulus.
