During his absence from court, he wrote Astrophel and Stella and the first draft of The Arcadia and The Defence of Poesy. Somewhat earlier, he had met Edmund Spenser, who dedicated The Shepheardes Calender to him. Other literary contacts included membership, along with his friends and fellow poets Fulke Greville, Edward Dyer, Edmund Spenser and Gabriel Harvey, of the (possibly fictitious) 'Areopagus', a humanist endeavour to classicise English verse.
Both through his family heritage and his personal experience (he was in Walsingham's house in Paris during the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre), Sidney was a keenly militant Protestant. In the 1570s, he had persuaded John Casimir to consider proposals for a united Protestant effort against the Roman Catholic Church and Spain. In the early 1580s, he argued unsuccessfully for an assault on Spain itself. Promoted General of Horse in 1583,[1] his enthusiasm for the Protestant struggle was given a free rein when he was appointed governor of Flushing in the Netherlands in 1585. In the Netherlands, he consistently urged boldness on his superior, his uncle the Earl of Leicester. He conducted a successful raid on Spanish forces near Axel in July, 1586.
An early biography of Sidney was written by his friend and schoolfellow, Fulke Greville. While Sidney was traditionally depicted as a staunch and unwavering Protestant, recent biographers such as Katherine Duncan-Jones have suggested that his religious loyalties were more ambiguous. He was known to be friendly and sympathetic towards individual Catholics.
An Apology for Poetry(also known as A Defence of Poesie and The Defence of Poetry) – Sidney wrote the Defence before 1583. It is generally believed that he was at least partly motivated by Stephen Gosson, a former playwright who dedicated his attack on the English stage, The School of Abuse, to Sidney in 1579, but Sidney primarily addresses more general objections to poetry, such as those of Plato. In his essay, Sidney integrates a number of classical and Italian precepts on fiction. The essence of his defence is that poetry, by combining the liveliness of history with the ethical focus of philosophy, is more effective than either history or philosophy in rousing its readers to virtue. The work also offers important comments on Edmund Spenser and the Elizabethan stage.
Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales
Chaucer's Canterbury Tales follows a group of 29 pilgrims traveling from London to Canterbury to visit the shrine of St. Thomas Becket. To pass the time during their 55 mile journey, they agree to engage in a storytelling contest where each pilgrim will tell two stories on the way to Canterbury and two on the return, with the best storyteller receiving a prize. However, Chaucer only wrote 24 tales from the journey to Canterbury, giving insight into some of the pilgrims and their stories but not completing the full frame tale. The pilgrims represent different social classes and occupations of late medieval English society.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. - 2. Introduction Romanticism is associated with the faculty of imagination as distinguished from fancy and with spontaneous expression of emotion. It has been defined by many critics in different ways. Walter Peter calls it “Strangeness added to beauty”. Watts Dantton says that Romanticism is the Renaissance Wonder.
- 3. Romantic Revival Romantic revival is three dimensional. Elizabethan Revival Medieval Revival Hellenic Revival Romantic poets of the 19th century revived the romantic tendencies found in the literature of Elizabethan Age, Medieval Age and Hellenic Age.

- 5. William Blake William Blake’s poems are collected in two poetic volumes. They are Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. The Songs of Innocence contains poems which deal with the innocent and noble aspects of man whereas the Songs of Experience contain poems which deal with the evil aspect of man.
- 6. William Wordsworth William Wordsworth wrote many poems such as The Prelude, Tintern Abbey, Daffodils, Tables Turned, The World is too much with Us etc. He is a great nature poet. He spiritualizes nature and sees new things in a new way in nature. He advices mankind to live in the lap of nature where man can develop his mind and personality and inculcate human values like mercy, charity, compassion and love.
- 7. P.B. Shelley P.B. Shelley composed several poems. Ode to the West Wind, To a Skylark, Stanzas written in Dejection near Naples and Adonais are his immortal poetic creation. He is called a revolutionary poet because he fought against injustice, exploitation and tyranny. He tries to out root monarchy system. For that he seeks assistance from nature i.e. from the West Wind.

Keats Keats is a great romantic poet who is remembered for his beautiful poems like Ode to Nightingale, Ode to Grecian Urn, Ode to Psyche etc. He is called a poet of Beauty because he was inspired by Greek Beauty and Art. His aim is to create a world where there is joy and happiness but there should not be misery and affliction. He says “Beauty is truth and truth beauty”.
