The protestants of 1529 grounded their teachings on the fact that anything that didn't agree with scripture it was their task to reject it. This presentation looks at two contrasting views. One advanced by the Catholic church and the other view advance by Seventh-day Adventists. We then compare these views with scripture.
Is falling backwards (called Slain in the spirit in the Evangilical world) a sign of acceptance with God? The answer is emphatically NO, it never has been and it never will be.
The apostle Paul refutes the claim that Abraham was justified through the Law. Abraham preceded the Law and was justified in God's eyes because of his faith and trust in God.
In recent times many have laid claim to the title of being a prophet. This claim requires a look into scripture to reveal whether this is true or not. This presentation seeks to look at several tests that should be applied to claimants of the gift of prophecy and the tests as applied to an individual who actually passed all of them.

Sermon by: Brian Birdow
With any structure being built, the foundation is of utmost importance. What is the foundation for your life? What is the foundation for your faith? These really are important questions! The foundations humans lay include their own goodness and good works. These people feel like they can be saved by "doing enough good" in the world. Others recognize their goodness can't save them but view Christ as only supplying what little they lack to get into heaven. God laid a foundation of Jesus - ONLY JESUS! None of your righteousness, none of your good works - ONLY JESUS.
The "Learning and Living the God-centered life" had a retreat in which the theme was The Gospel. Here is our Friday night teaching was specifically designed to exhort each of us to stay steadfast in Christ!
The most important thing to believe in is what Jesus Christ did for you. Without the sacrifice Jesus made, we would have no opportunity to have a relationship with God both now and in the afterlife.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

a higher concentration of the use of the word
“righteousness.” And there is no other chapter in
Romans which uses the word more than chapter

BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.”
• NAU Galatians 3:6 Even so Abraham BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS
RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.
• NAU James 2:23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND
ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS
RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God.

and count the stars, if you are able to count them." And He said to him, "So shall your
descendants be.” 6 Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as
righteousness.
• NAU James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up
Isaac his son on the altar? 22 You see that faith was working with his works, and as a
result of the works, faith was perfected; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which
says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS
RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God.
• James did not say that Abraham was credited with righteousness for his offering in
Genesis chapter 22, He said the Scripture was fulfilled. And there was only one
Scripture that credited Abram with righteousness, Genesis 15.
• Galatians 3:8 makes reference to Genesis 12, but again, it is not saying that he was
credited with righteousness for believing that; “The Scripture, foreseeing that God
would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham,
saying, "ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU.””
Romans 4:3, Believed What?
8. • 130. Explain Genesis 15:6.
• In Genesis 15:6 we have the account of God telling childless Abram
(who with his wife were very old) that his descendants would be as
numerous as the stars. Then, when " he believed in the LORD", God
"reckoned it to him as righteousness." Abram was counted as righteous
because he believed God. It's interesting that Moses records " believed
in the LORD," yet when the Holy Spirit has Paul quote this verse in
Romans 4:3 he says; "For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM
BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS."
The NT account seems to focus on the fact that he believed what God
said, whereas the OT carries more the idea of trusting in God. Both are
true. Paul also uses "ABRAHAM" rather than "ABRAM." Paul does the
same thing when he quotes this passage in Galatians 3:6; "Even so
Abraham BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS
RIGHTEOUSNESS." Paul explains in Romans 4:3-25 that in faith,
Abraham, which he had while uncircumcised and not under the Mosaic
law was justified by faith…

• NAU Romans 3:20, 4:4 Now to the one who works, his wage

• Deuteronomy makes it clear that Jews in the OT gained
righteousness by obedience to God's Law;
• NAU Deuteronomy 6:25 "It will be righteousness for us if we
are careful to observe all this commandment before the
LORD our God, just as He commanded us.
• So what's this seeming contradiction about?
• Our righteousness is by Christ’s perfect fulfillment, and
obedience to God's Law.
• When most OT saints (Jews, after Abraham) trusted in God’s

Is Faith A Form Of Work?
• Q. I have a question about faith versus works. I am very much a “by
faith alone, in Christ alone” believer (who also believes in OSAS). But,
to be perfectly honest, I find myself wondering if faith itself isn’t a form
of works. Believing is something you have to do to be saved. In other
words, if you don’t “work” it by believing and receiving you won’t be
saved. Isn’t that works?
• A. Then they asked Him, “What must we do to do the works God
requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the
one He has sent” (John 6:28-29). In the Greek language believe and
faith come from the same word. Therefore if faith is a “work” it is the
only one that God requires. In Romans 4:5… And in Ephesians 2:8-9 he
said we’re saved by grace through faith and not by works. In both these
places He differentiated between faith, which is required, and works,
which are not. Therefore, it’s reasonable to conclude that having faith
(believing) is the only thing we can do that’s not counted as work, and
in fact if faith wasn’t required, then everyone would automatically be
saved.

Is Believe/Belief A Work?
• Q. I watched a show where the preacher claimed the Bible says
that belief is not going to get you saved and that belief is a
work. How do we know we are saved? How do we know for sure
we are doing God’s will and not being selfish? I am scared that I
have missed out all these years. If believing is not part of “faith”
then what is Faith?
• A. Jesus said that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but
have eternal life. (John 3:16) And in Ephesians 1:13-14 Paul
wrote; And you also were included in Christ when you heard the
word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you
were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a
deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of
those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. In the
Greek language the word for belief and the one for faith come
from the same root, which means to trust in
something. In Romans 4:5 Paul said…

Prerequisites For Salvation
• Eric L Peterman said, “There are two spiritual
and moral conditions which MUST first be
present in a person's life in order to be
prepared for God to declare a person justified
in His sight.
• 1) You have to be spiritually and morally lazy, -
"to the one who does not work"
• 2) You have to be wicked, very wicked - "who
justifies the ungodly”.”

vain is the modern effort to divorce faith from
knowledge. But although faith is intellectual, it is not
only intellectual. You cannot have faith without having
knowledge; but you will not have faith if you have only
knowledge.”

you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being
perfected by the flesh?

Rewards , Judgment Day
• Today is September 28, 2012
• Verse of the Day -- Revelation 22:12 Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.
• THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
• Will you qualify for a reward on Judgment Day?
• MINI BIBLE STUDY FOR THE DAY
• Bible scholars have debated for years about the rewards and judgment that will transpire at the Judgment Seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Corinthians 3:12-
15). Since we know that our sins have been cast "as far as the east is from the west" (Psalm 103:12) and that we can do nothing on our own, apart from Christ
working in us (John 15:5), it is natural to question the nature of this divine, and very real, judgment.
• We believe there is one thing that God asks of Believers that could possibly be the basis for this judgment. It is the one thing He has always asked. It is where
many of the Israelites failed and where many Christians still struggle.
• It is simply a question of “faith.”
• Everything we do, think, say or feel reflects whether or not we truly believe God and what He says in His Word.
• We tend to think most verses about believing have to do with salvation. But there is a huge emphasis all through the Bible about God wanting people to simply
believe Him—to take Him at His Word in all things (have “faith”).
• . . . whatever is not from faith is sin. —Romans 14:23b But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as
righteousness . . . —Romans 4:5
• Behold, as for the proud one, his soul is not right within him; But the righteous will live by his faith. —Habakkuk 2:4
• And Jesus answered saying to them, "Have faith in God." —Mark 11:22
• for we walk by faith, not by sight —2 Corinthians 5:7
• I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who
loved me and gave Himself up for me. —Galatians 2:20
• and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes
from God on the basis of faith —Philippians 3:9
• But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the synagogue official, "Do not be afraid any longer, only believe. (have faith)" —Mark 5:36
• But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, —John 1:12
• The Bible also says that faith is "the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."(Hebrews 11:1)
• So it seem plausible that God could judge everything we do in light of whether we did it out of faith—trust, assurance, conviction, belief—in Him. That would
explain why we could actually do the right thing for the wrong reason or do the wrong thing for the right reason:
• Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose
the motives of men's hearts; and then each man's praise will come to him from God. — 1 Corinthians 4:5 And the Bible mentions five rewards Believers can receive
by faith:
