PRE-ROMAN PEOPLES
- IBERIANS: descendants of the
prehistoric inhabitants of the Iberian
Peninsula, they lived mainly in the
East coasts of the Mediterranean
Sea and in the South. They were
more evolved, because they got into
contact with the Phoenician, Greek
and Carthaginian colonizers.
- CELTS: they arrived in the Iberian
Peninsula at the beginning of the 1st
miillenium BC. They came from
Eastern Europe and settled down in
the North and West of the Iberian
Peninsula
- CELTIBERIANS: mixture of Iberians
and Celts in the centre of the Iberian
Peninsula
They were the inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula before the arrival of the Romans

(218 BC- 202 BC):The Romans invaded the Iberian Peninsula at the
end of the 3rd
century BC, defeated the Carthaginians and conquered
the East and South of the Iberian Peninsula. They called it HISPANIA,
which comes from the Phoenician name “Saphan”.
(29 BC-19 ): Emperor Octavian Augustus defeated the Astures,
Cantabrians and Vascones in the North.
(202 BC-133 BC) Wars against Celtiberians and Lusitanians. The
Romans killed Viriatus in 139 BC and conquered Numantia in
133 BC. At the end of these wars they controlled the centre and
West of the Ib. Peninsula
