This workshop session invites participants to analyze where they are in their career, reflect on past, present, and future challenges, and develop confidence in their ability to roll with the punches. Let's face it: people don't always like change. Whether for planned or unexpected change, mental preparation helps with navigating the unknown successfully. The ability to rely on analysis and information provides stability and prevents emotions from overtaking every minute. Participants will evaluate their strengths, skills, interests, and support styles. They will be challenged to visualize a change and analyze how they can apply their experience to a new setting.

Rolling with the Punches: Applying Your Experience through Change
1. Rolling with the Punches
In the PAST experiences sheet, begin to fill in the columns for each significant event.
The events do not have to be in chronological order.
WHO made the change? Was it your idea? Your parents? A result of someone else's actions or an outside situation?
WHEN was the change made? When did it take effect? How long did you have to prepare for it?
WHAT was the change? What part of your previous routine or life was affected?
WHY was the change made? What were the motives of the person making the change?
WHAT did you gain from it? When did this take effect, or when did you realize there was a gain?
WHAT did you lose from it? When did this take affect, or when did you realize this?
WHO supported you, and how?
WHO opposed the change, and how?
For the NEW changes sheet, look back on the past experiences for any similarities.
This will help answer some questions.
WHO desires or is making the change?
WHEN will it take effect? How long do you have to prepare?
WHAT is the change? How will your routine or life be affected?
WHY is the change being made?
WHAT event in the past is similar to this, and how can you use that experience to guide you through this?
WHAT will you stand to gain? What excites you about the change?
WHAT do you stand to lose? What do you fear about the change?
WHO can you call on for support, and what type of support do you need?
WHO or what may oppose the change, and how can you set yourself up to handle the opposition?
The goal is to find how situations that can help you through future changes successfully. It is not always a
significant life event that gives us tools to succeed. It can be as simple as sharing a coffee or talking to a friend.
How do you manage change? How can you succeed with the tools that you have accumulated?
