This document provides guidelines for conducting radio network drive tests to ensure accurate and consistent test data. It specifies procedures before, during, and after a drive test. Key steps include determining test methods and engineers, checking equipment, collecting network data, selecting test routes, and recording test information. The guidelines aim to standardize the drive test process.

1 About this Document
This guide is designed to specify radio network drive test for smooth
process and ensure the accuracy and consistency of the tested data.
For instrument usage of specific products and drive test technologies,
please refer to corresponding instrument usage guide and drive test guide.
2 Intended Users
This guide is drafted for radio network planning optimization engineers
and drive test engineers to carry out drive tests.
3 Specifications
3.1 Before a Drive Test
3.1.1 Determining Methods and Engineers
Based on test objectives and requirements, determine the following:
Drive test methods
Engineers and cooperative engineers
Test area
instruments and devices.
For comparison tests on the same network, should adopt the same
test devices and methods to ensure the results consistent.
3.1.2 Checking Instruments
To check the instruments, proceed as follows:
1. The required instruments should be complete and normal.

4. Radio Network Drive Test Guide Internal open
2. Accessories of drive test instruments should be complete and
normal.
3. Power supply devices and batteries should be well prepared for
drive test.
4. The software of drive test should be correctly installed and used.
5. The engineers must normally connect the required instruments
with relevant accessories and confirm that both drive test software and
devices can work normally.
3.1.3 Collecting Network Information Data
Drive test engineers must collect relevant information, such as data
of the network to be tested (including engineering parameters and cell
information) and maps, and then import them to drive test devices before
a test.
3.1.4 Selecting Routes
Select drive test routes based on test scope, objectives and
requirements. For example , to ensure popularity of the drive test, avoid
selecting repetitive routes for a city test. However, specific requirements
from operators should be satisfied.
3.1.5 Vehicles and Time Arrangement
Arranging appropriate vehicles and test time based on drive test
requirements and objectives.
For example, specific requirements of operators for time should be

satisfied. To diagnose network problems, select the time period when
call traffic is busy, such as 10:00am to 11:00am. Usually, saloon cars for
passengers or automobiles are selected for drive test. Trunks/vans are
not recommended but dedicated test vehicles are preferred. For
coverage comparison tests, should use the same test vehicles and
select consistent test time period.
3.2 During a Drive Test
3.2.1 Antenna Position of Test Terminals
The external antenna should be installed on the roof above the
assistant driver’s seat in the test vehicle.
If there is a dedicated test workbench (or drive test box), the test
terminal should be placed at the special purpose position on the test
workbench. If there is no test workbench (or drive test box), the test
terminal should be placed on the position almost satisfying the above
requirements. Note that all tests should be carried out at the assistant
driver’s seat in case of no test workbench.
Engineers must record actual situations not in compliance with the
above cases. Test terminals must not be placed randomly.
3.2.2 Vehicle Speed and Carriage Environment during a Test
Drive a vehicle at a required speed.
If an external antenna is installed, there is no requirement for the
carriage; if not, it is recommended to close windows in the carriage.
3.2.3 Recording Test File Information
During a drive test, record the test file name and the information
related to actual test routes, and fill in drive test information table. Note

that this table and the drive test data should be saved into same
directory.
3.3 After a Drive Test
Based on test requirements and drive test guides for specific
products, perform corresponding background processing on test data
and output corresponding test result documents. Where, it is
recommended to set legends based on the software default value.
