In the past decade, the climate issue ranked top on the agendas of global discussions and was
stipulated in political commitments. However, the achievements that we aspire to have not been
achieved so far, due to the varying levels of implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement, which will
continue in this way in the coming years until countries work at all levels of their commitment to include
concrete measures in their climate strategies.

concerted efforts to confront it, which is still missing to this day.

The pioneer days of aviation were born in boathouses, with the first seaplanes made of wood and
fabric. And if between Loire and Ocean, a European regional eco-airport reconnected with the Guerlain
years to imagine our future between science and nature ? The last private owner of Lake Grand-Lieu,
Jean-Pierre Guerlain was a lover of nature, of the maritime and fluvial identity of the territory.
The Loire Valley has guided aeronautical history from one region to another, with its river-maritime
innovations from Nantes to the heart of Berry, in the Center Val-de-Loire region, where Châteauroux
airport was named in 1994 "Marcel Dassault airport".
Similar approaches are developing on other continents. The new Marrakech Menara terminal is
already positioning itself as an African regional eco-airport, following in the footsteps of Yves-Saint-
Laurent. Many large cities give their airports the name of a famous person. Thus, Paris has a Roissy-
Charles De Gaulle airport. Rome has a Leonardo da Vinci airport. Liverpool Airport is named after John
Lennon. In 2012, the Bordeaux urban community (CUB) debated at length to rename Bordeaux-
Mérignac airport, taking inspiration from the process to give the name of Saint-Exupéry to Lyon airport.
On January 25, 1994, Châteauroux airport was named "Marcel Dassault airport", in reference to the
industrial base of the eponymous entrepreneur at the gates of Berry and Val-de-Loire. With his real
name, Marcel Bloch created in 1936 a first Castelroussine aircraft manufacturing plant which was taken
over by SNCASO a few months later in application of nationalization laws. It is in this factory that the
Bloch MB.152 hunters will be produced. Marcel Bloch will subsequently borrow the resistant surname,
Dassault.
Adversity often guides the personality of inventors. From the protection of black bees on the island of
Ouessant to research on plant varieties from the Old Continent, Jean-Pierre Guerlain was constantly
on the lookout for new ideas. His memory could guide Nantes to transform the airport located in the
town of Bouguenais into a European regional eco-airport.

creative fabric of SMEs in the Nantes Saint-Nazaire industrial basin: principals and subcontractors in
the high-tech naval and aeronautical sectors ... Without forget about the design, creative and cultural

Morocco.
The new terminal at Marrakech-Menara Airport, inaugurated on Wednesday December 21, 2016 by
HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, is a pilot project. Resolutely design and ecological, this
extension of the old terminal confirms the opening of Marrakech as a gateway to North Africa towards
new mobility and circular economy opportunities.
Resolutely ecological
Aiming to be eco-friendly, the bioclimatic architecture of the terminal with its double-skin facades now
makes it possible to reduce its ecological impact, respect the environment and its principles of
sustainability. To be at the level of electricity consumption, full LEDS lighting has been respected, new
indoor temperature regulator technology installed to minimize consumption and limit external inputs
of electricity.
Another novelty in terms of water, an installation for collecting rainwater has also been set up using
large collectors and tanks strategically buried and placed along the terminal for watering the external
and internal green spaces. Proof of this environmental prowess, the new Marrakech Menara Airport -
and long before it opened its doors - obtained certificate 1 in the "Airport Carbon Accreditation"
program from the International Airports Council.
This new Marrakech Menara Airport Terminal should allow the absorption of a flow of 9 million
passengers. Covering an area of 57,000 m2 and spread over three levels with a ceiling height of 18m,
the site includes a public hall surmounted by a large geodesic dome 45 m in diameter glazed and 32m
high housing boarding lounges . The new terminal also has state-of-the-art technological equipment
and a great novelty, a space dedicated to exhibitions.
Following the holding of the COP22 in Marrakech last November 2016, the first two exhibitions were
devoted to a collection of Mostafa El Ansari, Moroccan painter, and "UNESCO GREEN CITIZENS: the
scouts of change", an exhibition intended to make tribute to the men and women who, everywhere in
the world, bring to life remarkable projects of education for sustainable development.
