RIPE Atlas is a next generation Internet measurement network that aims to scale up to thousands of small, low-cost measurement nodes that can be easily deployed around the world. The initial prototype has shown that even with just 1,000 or 5,000 probes, useful insights can be gained about Internet performance and outages. The goal is to continue expanding the network to 10,000, 20,000, and eventually 50,000 probes worldwide by leveraging contributions from the community in a collaborative effort.
