Managing and motivating a team of five sales assistants ensuring the exemplary award winning level of 
customer service is maintained at all times. Delegating tasks, providing feedback to management. Liaising 
with the buyers to review product sales and develop a strategy to improve turnover. Seeking new role as the

Jan 2008 to June 28th 2014 Network Rail, Maintenance Delivery, Commercial Business Manager / Quantity 
Surveyor 
Developed in consultation with resource planning department a proposal for the preferred Road Rail Vehicle 
contract retender terms, customising the tender scope to focus on maximising Carlisle DU weekend access 
opportunities, became the best practice proposal for the whole route. 
Outstanding Cost Of Work Done in accounts consistently in first / lowest quartile of the route. 
Reduced the Delivery Units retrospective Purchase Orders down to zero, the lowest on the route. 
Oracle software used for the budgets and accounts as well as project budget tracking. 
Liaising with other Network Rail project teams to continuously improve the processes behind data capturing 
to accurately monitor / report project costs and forecasts, this is down to determined approach in 
persistently detailing outstanding requirements to managers working in partnership to identify and deliver 
each other information in a timely and useable format. Delivery Unit Corporate Governance advisor and 
‘Super User’ providing advice and training within the delivery unit for all financial, commercial and 
procurement systems. 
Visiting work sites as necessary to support estimating process and validating that works are completed to the 
required specification and contracted scope. 
Contractor liaising to assist in cost control quality of deliverables, reduce variations and ensure contract is 
fulfilled. 
Participate in budget holder key meetings to provide reports, support budget holders in understanding the 
commercial and financial processes, challenge standard practices for cost effectiveness and provide advice 
on contracts, suppliers and tendering, including accurate forecasting, business modelling and investment 
appraisals, ensuring corporate governance is adhered to. 
Preparation of tender documents from engineer’s scope prior to Contract & Procurement issue. 
Project close outs including lessons learnt and updating of asset databases. 
Site walk outs with prospective contractors to ensure fair tendering, setting of tender weighted matrices, 
reviewing and scoring tender submissions, tender evaluation and report writing, key in encouraging none 
compliant tenders to encourage alternate delivery of project. 
Managing of Change Control process, receiving requests for, reviewing, costing and processing variations for 
sponsor review. 
Projects managed include signal structure, plain line and S&C renewals, construction of buildings and rail 
infrastructure renewals.
Working with section managers and contractors to identify the cause of unit cost discrepancies between 
their delivery cost and the company average, providing section managers with the information on lessons 
learnt to reduce their costs. 
Re-measuring of works done and responsibility for sign off of payment applications, validating and 
calculating cost of work done for accountants period end figures. 
Researching alternate suppliers, contractor delivery methods then costing and providing business case 
reports for management review. 
Developing appropriate modelling parameters’ to cost business cases, cost benefit analysis of contract 
options.
