Africa's Great Lakes region is known for its quality Arabica and Robusta coffee. That is why buyers have criss-crossed the Great Lakes region for more than a century in search of the cherries that make such excellent coffee.
The Trade for Development Centre (TDC) has committed itself to supporting 5 of these cooperatives, in Uganda, Rwanda and DRC, to contribute to making the Great Lakes coffee a lever for development for small marginalised producers in the region.

Project descriptionIndia had a tremendous history of coffee consumption and production. Commercial plantations
of coffee started in India during the 18th century. Over the years, the Indian coffee industry has
earned a distinct identity on the coffee map of the world.. India is today home to 16 unique
varieties of coffees sourced from 13 distinct coffee growing regions; most of them in the
southern part of the country. The different varieties of Indian coffees are well suited for cappuccinos and espressos alike and have no parallel in any other coffee growing nation
globally.

When we think about refreshment, the first thing that comes to our mind is coffee or tea. Most people prefer coffee and most prefer tea and these two drinks have become a part of a human being’s life.
Here we (I) have concentrated on coffee which is considered as a traditional drinks especially in south India. People here start their everyday life with a cup of coffee. Not only in south India but in all parts of the world people are so dependent and addicted to coffee that it acts as a daily schedule to every body every where. But this coffee is not grown in all parts of the world but is grown in very few places with right kind or weather, atmosphere and most important of all, the soil of that region. It is usually grown in hill stations with adequate amount of rainfall and such places which are high above sea level. Therefore in India, Karnataka is such a place, especially South Karnataka which produces the highest amount of coffee in whole India. Most parts of Karnataka such as Chikmagalur district and many parts in Hassan District, and also Coorg.

2. 2. RUSAVE FARMERS’COFFEE COOPERATIVE (RFCC)
2.1.AN OVERVIEW OF RFCC
As Rwanda recovers from the divesting in genocide of 1994, the development of new
sources of national revenue assumes critical importance. In the past, coffee had been
an important export crop, but the quality of the final product was poor because of the
lack of modern processing methods and facilities, despite the high quality of trees and
perfect growing conditions. After genocide many coffee cooperatives were created
and being supported with National Agriculture and Export Board (NAEB) currently.
MISSION: RFCC amalgamates
coffee farmers in the area for
improving welfare of its members
through coffee plantation.
VISION: producing standard
quality coffee that’s needed at the
market place.
Rusave Farmers’ Coffee Cooperative <<RFCC>> started with 35 members who grew to 115
members with more than 63,000 coffee trees in less than one year. This led to increase coffee
trees in Kayonza district and taking care on the harvested trees to improve coffee harvest in area.
The RFCC has a certificate of legal status No RCA/ 0693/ 2014 on 07/08/2014, issued by
Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA) that certificate gave RFCC a courage of searching for the
authorization of building a coffee washing station (CWS) after realizing a common problem of
lacking factories which can process coffee beans that yielded poor quality of coffee.

18/09/2007 determining the establishment, organization and functioning of
Cooperative Organizations in Rwanda, as amended to date; Cooperative share

must be paid by each members in period, the shares will be based on each farmers

the local farmers in that the production be increased as it is shown below:
Coffee Nursery bed 2014
Among its member, 110 are married with depends equivalent to 455, so they are

from the need of helping <<Rusave Farmers’ Coffee Cooperative (RFCC) >>members for
being able to get organic fertilizer and against poverty, Pigs husbandry also it will help
