REVIEW WRITING
Review
A review is like giving something a closer look and sharing your thoughts or opinions about it. It's like sharing your
experience with a movie, a book, a product, or even a restaurant. It's a way of looking at, examining, and expressing
what you think about a particular thing.
A review can be about a
• Movie
• Short film story
• Drama
• Novel
• Documentary
or something else.
Purpose of Review
The purpose of a review is to advise others whether to visit/buy/watch/read/otherwise engage with the subject of
your review. Reviews can be done for various purposes, such as expressing opinions, making recommendations, or
summarizing information. It can also be used by businesses to see how they can improve.
REVIEW WRITING
If you're writing a movie review then these steps might include
writing a review.
 Story
 Characters

 Theme
 Action

 Title
 About writer
 Face/book cover
 Summary of novel
 Theme & story
 Content
 Opinion
REVIEW WRITING
Types of review
There are following types of review:
• Traditional or narrative review
• Systematic review
• Meta-analysis review
Narrative review
A narrative review is like telling a story about a particular topic in the form of a review. Instead of following a strict,
systematic approach, it relies on the author's expertise and insights to provide a comprehensive overview. It's more
subjective and may include historical context, current understanding, and the author's opinions.
Example
Let's say you're writing a narrative review on the evolution of smartphones. You might start by discussing the early
development of mobile phones, then progress through key milestones like the introduction of touchscreens and the
rise of smartphone operating systems. Along the way, you could share your thoughts
REVIEW WRITING
on how these changes impacted society and individuals. A narrative review allows you to weave together information
in a more storytelling fashion, providing a broader and more interpretative perspective.
Systematic review
A systematic review is like the gold standard of research summaries. It's a thorough and structured analysis of all the
relevant studies on a particular topic. The idea is to minimize bias and provide a comprehensive overview.
Example
Let's say you want to know if eating apples every day really keeps the doctor away. You'd collect all the studies on
this topic, carefully look at each one, and then summarize what all of them together tell you about the relationship
between eating apples and staying healthy. It's like collecting all the puzzle pieces (studies) about something, putting
them together carefully, and then looking at the big picture they create.
REVIEW WRITING
Meta-analysis review
Meta-analysis is like combining the results of multiple studies to get a more powerful and accurate answer to a
question. Imagine you're trying to find out if a new medicine really works. Instead of relying on just one study, meta-
analysis looks at many studies on the same topic, crunches the numbers, and gives you a more reliable overall picture.
Example
Let's say there are five studies about a new treatment for headaches. Each study looked at different groups of people,
but they all measured how well the treatment worked.
Study 1 : says the treatment is fantastic.
Study 2 : says it's so-so.
Study 3 : says it's not very effective.
REVIEW WRITING
Study 4 : says it's promising.
Study 5 : says it's unclear.
Now, if we just look at each study on its own, it's confusing. But, if we use meta-analysis, we combine the results. If
some studies didn't show it clearly then meta-analysis helps us see the bigger picture by putting all the evidence
together.
Tips for writing reviews
Writing great reviews will increase the likelihood that your review will get published, and helps others discover the
places that are just right for them. Here are a few tips:
A thesis: Before you write, make sure you know the general message you want to convey. A simple thesis will help
keep your review from straying off-topic.

at least one positive to include, just to provide a break in between your incredible inspection.
REVIEW WRITING

visitors are likely to experience. Highlight what makes the place special, and try to share something unique and new.

be as accurate as possible.
Be respectful: Business owners often use feedback to improve their offerings. Even if you’re frustrated, make sure
your criticism is constructive. Additionally, please avoid to using bad language.
Write with style: Check your spelling and grammar, and avoid excessive capitalization and punctuation.
