This document discusses dental caries (tooth decay) and methods for prevention and treatment. It describes caries as an infectious disease that affects the hard tissues of teeth and is sugar dependent. Prevention methods mentioned include brushing teeth after meals, flossing, visiting the dentist yearly, and diet. Vital dyes are discussed as a way to assess oral hygiene by distinguishing old plaque from new plaque. Potential health risks of some dyes are also noted.
