3. Do’s & Don’t of Resume writing
DON’T  DO 
 Use the word “I”  Use sentence fragments in the past tense
 Share too much info like  Instead of “I assisted my teacher with
birthday, religion, weight, social security organization”, write “Assisted teacher
number, links to social media sites, ect. with organization.”
 Make grammar mistakes and typos  Proof read and have others review your
 Make resume too long- limit to one resume
page, front-only  Put information in reverse chronological
 Skimp on information order with most current job or activity first:
 List everything that you have been  Target, cashier, June 2012 – present
involved in during high school  McDonald’s, cashier, November 2011 –
 Be modest April 2012
 Show off what you have accomplished  Turn accomplishments into numbers
especially if it’s unique and interesting!  Instead of “Managed the front desk of a
 Worry! gym by checking in patrons at the front
 You will continually be updating your desk,” try “Managed a 230,000 square
resume, use this as a motivation for foot gym by checking in patrons at the
