Resume For
John P. Wagnon
Education: University of Louisville, Kentucky – B.S. Electrical Engineering 1972.
University of Southwest Louisiana – B.S. Petroleum Engineering 1983.
(Computer Science Minor)
Work History:
1972-1973 Alexandria Audi Porsche Dealership
Made top ten Porche salesman for U.S. Porsche Corp.
1973.1979 Vetco Pipline Services, Houston, Texas.
Initially hired as an engineering troubleshooter on new proto type inspection
tools. After solving a complicated VCO circuit problem, I was promoted to
Project Engineer handling complete overseas assignments from clearing
customs for equipment, to managing the entire project. (all other PE’s were
15-20 years my senior)
1979.1980 Engineering Manager for Plastic Applicators, a drill pipe coating and
inspection company (owned by Baker). Hired to help bring online a new
Pipe Coating Plant on Little York. Solved major assembly line problems
and was at full production in just under 3 months. Remodel and revamped
the Old Katy Rd. plant as well. After everything was working well I had
nothing to do, got bored and went back to school.
1980.1983 USL ( with full Chevron Scholarship) GPA 3.65
1983.1992 Teleco Oilfield Svs. 24 months Directional; Dirctional Plus; Fasttrack/
gamma resistivity. 9 months Western Region MWD Instructor. 1986 I was
sent to train Indonesian’s on how to run RGD MWD tools. Upon returning to
the Gulf Coast in late 86’ I began writing offline software in the field to auto-
edit logging data. Was promoted to Western Region Engineering Software
Supervisor (a newly created position). I left Teleco in 1992 when Baker
bought the company.
1992.1999 Having started a small business in 1989 with my wife and brother, I left
Teleco to grow the business. Catering to the Oil industry and the ever
growing school networking and computer market, Total Laser Concepts grew
to be a multi-million dollar company. We were one of the first in the area to
offer toner cartridge recycling and laser printer repair. In an attempt to
address re-manufacturing problems with our toner group, I developed 3
component patents and 2 process patents still used today in the industry. Our
major revenue stream came from networking schools for computer classes
and internet access. When Dell, Gateway, HP, and other big boys got in the
play profits were merely a fraction of what we enjoyed before 1996. In 1999
we closed the computer/networking group, but still have toner/laser print
component under the name Total Laser Printers.
1999.2007 Integrated Directional Resouces. With a desire to return the directional
drilling business for which I worked and learned much in the early MWD era
I went to work with several old friends at IDR(Integrated Directional
Resources). Though my primary function was Direction Drilling, I also wrote
engineering applications for PC’s and PDA’s. When IDR looked to partner
with an independent RSS(Rotary Steerable System) operation I was assigned
to the project working with Noble Drilling Technologies group and their
Well Director RSS. I have worked with most of the currently commercial
RSS systems. I always made it my job to learn everything I could about the
operation of these tools. I know their strengths and their weaknesses. I solved
several MWD/DD problems for IDR when we added that service to our
product line. Before the Pathfinder buyout I was going to be put in charge of
expanding this service.( Achieved the level of Sr. Directional Driller by early
2002).
In 2002 for some years to come I worked very closely with Marc Haci and
Dr. Eric Maidla of Slider Corp. in the early development of the now
Directional Drilling Aid “Slider”. In May of 2013 I was awarded an
achievement appreciation award from Marc and Eric for my help in the
early contributions to the successful development to commercialization
of the “Slider” product line.
2007-2013 In house for Chevron Western Shelf. Directional Engineering work including
Well Planning, Hydraulics, and Coordination of Drilling Efforts. Was the
first DD/Engineer to be brought into the newly formed DAG Group( Drilling
Advisory Group) for North America Land for Pathfinder. When Pathfinder
was bought by Smith our team brought iDrill and DBOS to real world
application of Drilling. Our team brought Pathfinder from last to first place in
drilling the Haynesville Shale for Chesapeake . Expanded our work into all
major Plays in North America. Was personally responsible for the Eastern
Region for Pathfinder/Schlumberger. (At any given time up to 40-50
rigs).Grade level achievement to Sr. Drilling Advisor)
2014-2015 30+ years of Drilling Experience all over the world. Specializing in
Extended reach horizontal wells in West Texas. I hold 5 personally
developed patents. Instrumental in development of many revolutionary
products such as Slider, Frank's HI tool, APS's MLWD decoding schema for
auto threshold decoding, etc. Other talents include Software development for
the oilfield including as drilled and cutting edge projection products. I
currently hold three Drilling Records for Concho out of Midland, Texas,
achieved over the last 14 months.
Drilling Areas:
Gulf Coast, California, Canada, Mexico, Russia, Australia, Indonesia, Saudi,
Iran, Scotland, Norway, Denmark, Holland, Algeria, Singapore, Texas
(horizontal work), Alaska, All Areas involved with Horizontal Drilling
(NAL).
Please Note the Article Below for Frank’s HI Tool in which I was interviewed for an
annual report.
