NETWORK ENGINEER V, INTERMOUNTAIN

As the Network Engineer I ensure that the network and all of its components function
reliably, securely, and with superior performance to support all operations of Intermountain
on and off campus in alignment with the agency strategic plan. This is accomplished by
careful design, installation, implementation, testing, analysis, and maintenance of network
components that will meet identified needs surfaced through careful analysis of the
business activities of Intermountain.

I Integrate and schematically depicts communication architectures, topologies, hardware,
software, transmission and signaling links and protocols into complete network
configurations
As the Network Engineer I demonstrate and exercise effective leadership to ensure that the
organization (staff and Board) views the network as a resource and realizes the maximum
potential and benefits of the network technology investment. The Network Engineer must
work directly with all users to educate and train them to maximize productivity and
successful treatment outcomes.
As the Network Engineer I responsible for Intermountain telecommunications. Trouble
calls are directed to the Network Engineer. If the Network Engineer can't fix the problem
then he/she contacts the Vendor.
As the Network Engineer I support and/or maintains multiple servers, 200+ LAN systems, 7
VMWare Servers with more than 25 Virtual Servers
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Defines the Agencies network structure, topology, and environment
2. Ensures hardware and software standardization and compatibility
2. Plans, coordinates and oversees the installation of new network hardware,
software and network access equipment
3. Liaises for Agency in establishing communication software and applications that
facilitate external data resource access
4. Develops knowledge base through user interaction
5. Analyzes the impact of proposed network systems and applications
6. Attend RISK and ensure security and compliance of network data, and ePHI
6. Recommends hardware and software upgrades and implements as appropriate
7. Ensures operating system security stability
8. Develops appropriate network documentation
9. Works with IT Manager on FY budget/planning capital purchases
10. Tracks inventory of network components

11. Assists in network related special projects
12. Adapts changing technology to Agency needs and resources
13. Communicates effectively with internal and external clients
14. Works with the IT Manager to maintain and upgrade servers
15. Maximizes student computer security ensuring ease of use
16. Maintains reliable and efficient Internet, Thin Client and Dial-in WAN links
connectivity
17. Coordinates down time or other absences with IT Manager and Tier 1 Technician
with an emergency contact plan
18. Evaluates new products, performs network problem resolution
19. Assists in the development and documentation of technical standards
20. Develops and implements approved methods of procedure
21. Designs and establishes protocol compatibility standards, develops and
implements network enhancements and makes recommendations for improvement
22. Works on projects/ systems/issues of medium to high complexity surrounding
network planning, configuration and optimization
23. Provides escalated tier support across organizations and to third party vendors
24. Works on one or more projects as a project team member, occasionally as a project
team lead
