Objective
A creative, results oriented professional Electro-Optical Associate Engineer with multiple
years of increasingly diversified experience and responsibilities in design, systems/test
engineering, manufacturing services, quality assurance, and laser technology. Experience
ranges from research and development environments to production of laser diode arrays and
production and testing of other high reliability electronic and Opto-mechanical devices for
military, space and airborne applications.
My objective is to work for a company that is interested in the products they produce and the
people they employee. I believe my skills, knowledge and experience would be a good match
for a growing business.
Employment Experience
Sept. 2002 –
Nov 2016:
Test Engineer: United Technologies Aerospace Systems Albuquerque, NM. Currently performing on the
Cryogenic Level Sensing System (CLSS) for Boeing/NASA. Performing the design and fabrication of
interconnect cabling, Sensor STE (Special Test Equipment) design working with engineers, research and
ordering all parts needed for fabrication of the STE, coordinate the build of the STE, verify the STE
performance meets the requirements of the contract. Working with engineers to derive all Test Plans and
Test Procedures for Acceptance and Qualification testing. This effort was extended to the CLSS Electronics
Box due to the customers’ satisfaction with the Sensor work accomplished. This effort is ongoing.
Working knowledge of Visio and AutoCAD for basic design and layout applications. Use of Microsoft Office
for various daily activities and presentations.
Upgrades to the ATLAS V Environmental Test Sets. Supported the redesign for obsolete equipment involved
new pieces of equipment being interfaced with the existing program devices with no impact to software or
test procedures per customer direction. Responsible for the build, integration and verification of the STEs.
The D5 Trident II Missile Inverter Life Extension Program for the Navy involved redesigning the missile
inverter for the system. This was challenging working for the FBM (Fleet Ballistic Missile) group and
Lockheed Martin. Supported the effort from design to Qualification testing. Supported a wide range of
engineers to build the inverter and then worked with the Navy and Lockheed Martin to understand and utilize
the existing test sets to perform the Acceptance and Qualification testing for the new inverters.
Engineer II: Goodrich Optical and Space Systems Division, Albuquerque, NM. Support numerous beam
control and electro-optical programs. Responsible for procurement, assembly, integration and testing of
optical, mechanical, and electrical components for the specialty programs supported. Currently working on
D5 Trident II Missile Inverter Life Extension Program for the Navy. This program involves redesign,
fabrication and extensive testing of the Missile Inverter to include ESS, EMI/EMC and Qualification testing
prior to the production program. Team member in the design and development of a gimbaled camera system;
EOVS (Electro Optic Viewsight System); that is a retrofit for the U2 aircraft. Support for EOVS includes
designing, prototyping, developing, testing and build documentation to support multiple follow on production
contracts for the device. Involved with rapid prototyping and field demonstrations of high bandwidth Free
Space Optical Systems for military applications. Understanding of how to incorporate military standards
into the design and development of hardware and equipment to meet airworthy applications. Support of the
Advanced Remote Earth Sensing Program which consists of an airborne pointing and tracking system
integrated into a NASA WB57 aircraft for high altitude hyper-spectral sensor assessments. Have also
supported active laser tracking systems and beam steering systems.
Lab Manager: Responsible for three optical labs, large assembly area and a small machine shop. Coordinate
programs and personnel to perform work in labs and assembly areas along with support materials for each
area as required by program specific needs. Have begun work with fiber coupled lasers, detectors, and
associated support and test equipment. This effort was abandoned by the corporation.
an. 1998 –
Sept. 2002:
Electro-Optics Engineering Associate: Decade Products Inc, Albuquerque, NM. Provided technical
support for 100 Watt laser diode bars including the design, development, testing, packaging and
integration into production quantities of high power laser diode arrays. Helped achieve and maintain an
ISO 9000 and ISO 9001 registration for the company. Responsible for building the front end laser
assembly and integration onto the Ambient Temperature Illuminator (ATI) for the C-130 Gunship to
include characterization of the lensed laser diode arrays and environmental testing of the ATI. Interface
with customers to optimize the performance of the diode arrays for their application. Worked on
development of single optical lensing of diode bars when packaged in an array to optimize the optical
output of each bar to a prescribed pattern in the far field. Performed all personnel training and laser diode
array testing on several production contracts for multiple diode bar arrays.
