One of the components is descriptive statistics. Descriptive statistics helps describe, show or summarize data in a meaningful way such that, for example, patterns might emerge from the data ( Laerd Statistics, 2013). Descriptive statistics basically describes the data you are analyzing. In the case study “Social Work Research: Measuring Group Success” the descriptive statistics I might use to analyze the data gathered in the case study are 8 women, 5/8 are Caucasian, 3/8 are Hispanic, 1/5 was married.8/8 are heterosexual, and 8/8 had PTSD ((Plummer, Makris, and Brocksen, 2014).The statistics I identified can guide me in evaluating the applicability of the study’s findings for my own practice in social work by using the outcome of this study to help assist women who may have or are experiencing the same challenges. In order to make decisions about the value of any research study for practice, it is important to understand the general processes involved in analyzing research data. By now, you have examined enough research studies to be aware that there are some common ways that data are reported and summarized in research studies. The purposes of quantitative and qualitative research are dissimilar. Lietz and Zayas (2010) stated “qualitative inquiry developed through a rich history of research seeking contextualized, in-depth descriptions that offer increased understanding” (p 189).Questions that inform qualitative research explore more in depth to what has been developed through time. When starting off with a qualitative research question it’s always good to use “What” or “ How” ( Developing Your Research Questions, 2016). On a quantitative perspective according to Lietz and Zayas (2010) “quantitative research often seeks through measurement to test hypotheses, to determine outcomes and to draw generalizable conclusions to a defined population’ (p 190). As a social work student I think it is very salient for me to understand the two perspectives so when I am conducting research I am able to explore either one or the other.
Research questions that lead to a qualitative approach usually can answer yes or no. In preparing these types of questions you can use the formats of surveys or interviews. In my week 4 proposal I chose a qualitative method and my research question stated “How does society negatively impact the progression of LGBTQ relationships?” I chose this question because I found it to be very intriguing to find out how different results can factor from this one impact. I chose a qualitative approach because I have previously read so many articles that focused on this topic and in knowing the research I previously discovered I knew there would be some research on this proposal. In collecting data I would certainly research literature reviews, interview LQGTQ couples, and conduct anonymous surveys. The qualitative method that would be most suitable for answering the research question would be feminist research. “I

How does the organization curb high employee turnover?
The organization has been hiring administrators, but the number of those quitting is more than the retention rate. This is referred to as employee turnover. It has been described as the percentage of employees who leave the organization and the new ones are hired. The goal of any efficient organization is to reduce employee turnover as it hurts any organization’s bottom line (Lee, 2012). This is because research has indicated that it costs twice as more to train a new employee than to retain a current one. High turnover can also negatively impact other employees’ motivation.
To achieve this goal, the healthcare organization needs to be aware of the different strategies to avert this trend. First, the organization needs to hire the right individuals from the start. This is the single best method of averting staff turnover (Lee, 2012). Candidate should be interviewed and vetted carefully so as to ensure they possess the right skillset that will fit into the company culture. The organization should also set the right benefits and compensation structure as incentives to employees. Such information can be obtained by the human resources department getting current industry data on various industry pay packages. They can also get creative when necessary such as implementing flexible bonus structures and work schedules. HR can obtain this information from the internet or surveys conducted by other interested parties.
Once the relevant data and information are obtained, the organization can use it to devise strategies to curb the high employee turnover. Such data can be used to implement ways of bolstering employees’ engagement (Sheridan, 2014). This is because employees are motivated by healthy social interaction and a more rewarding work environment. The data will also be useful in reviewing the employees’ compensation and benefits package paying attention to the trends in the industry.
The stakeholders in this exercise will be the healthcare institution’s management and its employees. This is because they are directly affected by the high staff turnover. The management has to incur the costs of replacing and training new staff members while the staff are demotivated when their colleagues constantly quit (Lee, 2012). The purposes of quantitative and qualitative research are dissimilar. Lietz and Zayas (2010) stated “qualitative inquiry developed through a rich history of research seeking contextualized, in-depth descriptions that offer increased understanding” (p 189).Questions that inform qualitative research explore more in depth to what has been developed through time. When starting off with a qualitative research question it’s always good to use “What” or “ How” ( Developing Your Research Questions, 2016). On a quantitative perspective according to Lietz and Zayas (2010) “quantitative research often seeks through measurement to test hypotheses, to determine outcomes and to draw generalizable conclusions to a defined population’ (p 190). As a social work student I think it is very salient for me to understand the two perspectives so when I am conducting research I am able to explore either one or the other.
Research questions that lead to a qualitative approach usually can answer yes or no. In preparing these types of questions you can use the formats of surveys or interviews. In my week 4 proposal I chose a qualitative method and my research question stated “How does society negatively impact the progression of LGBTQ relationships?” I chose this question because I found it to be very intriguing to find out how different results can factor from this one impact. I chose a qualitative approach because I have previously read so many articles that focused on this topic and in knowing the research I previously discovered I knew there would be some research on this proposal. In collecting data I would certainly research literature reviews, interview LQGTQ couples, and conduct anonymous surveys. The qualitative method that would be most suitable for answering the research question would be feminist research. “I

How does the organization curb high employee turnover?
The organization has been hiring administrators, but the number of those quitting is more than the retention rate. This is referred to as employee turnover. It has been described as the percentage of employees who leave the organization and the new ones are hired. The goal of any efficient organization is to reduce employee turnover as it hurts any organization’s bottom line (Lee, 2012). This is because research has indicated that it costs twice as more to train a new employee than to retain a current one. High turnover can also negatively impact other employees’ motivation.
To achieve this goal, the healthcare organization needs to be aware of the different strategies to avert this trend. First, the organization needs to hire the right individuals from the start. This is the single best method of averting staff turnover (Lee, 2012). Candidate should be interviewed and vetted carefully so as to ensure they possess the right skillset that will fit into the company culture. The organization should also set the right benefits and compensation structure as incentives to employees. Such information can be obtained by the human resources department getting current industry data on various industry pay packages. They can also get creative when necessary such as implementing flexible bonus structures and work schedules. HR can obtain this information from the internet or surveys conducted by other interested parties.
Once the relevant data and information are obtained, the organization can use it to devise strategies to curb the high employee turnover. Such data can be used to implement ways of bolstering employees’ engagement (Sheridan, 2014). This is because employees are motivated by healthy social interaction and a more rewarding work environment. The data will also be useful in reviewing the employees’ compensation and benefits package paying attention to the trends in the industry.
The stakeholders in this exercise will be the healthcare institution’s management and its employees. This is because they are directly affected by the high staff turnover. The management has to incur the costs of replacing and training new staff members while the staff are demotivated when their colleagues constantly quit (Lee, 2012). According to the article, Qualitative Program Evaluation Methods indicated that “qualitative methods are commonly used in evaluations in order to explore specific facets of programs and give voice to participants”. The qualitative evaluation methods can provide in-depth information that can assist in enhancing the quality of a specific program (Qualitative Program Evaluation Methods).
According to McDavid & Huse (2013) defined inductive approach, as a method that “starts with ‘the data’ namely narratives, direct and indirect (unobtrusive) observations, interactions between stakeholders and the evaluator, documentary evidence, and other sources of information, and then constructs an understanding of the program” p200.
The Holistic Approach defined by McDavid & Huse (2003) is “discovering the themes in the data, weighting them, verifying them with stakeholders, and finally, preparing a document that reports the findings and conclusions” p200.
In the article, “Measuring Change in a Short-Term Educational Program Using a Retrospective Pretest Design”, centered around the Pennsylvania Governor’s School International Studies having a summer program that gives gifted high school students a challenging introduction to the study of internal affairs. The program administrators wanted to understand the effect of the program on the student’s understanding of their knowledge surrounding the core issues (Moore & Tananis 2009). For the past four years the program administrators began using the retrospective pre-post design. The results from the pretest yielded that the students consistently overestimated their understanding of International Studies in the beginning. The program administrator found that using the “retrospective pretest items were more biases than pretest items in certain context” (Moore & Tannis 2009 p200). The authors concluded that the retrospective pretest perhaps could be the most effective way of capturing data that is accurate of pre intervention function than a pretest given before the program begins.
For this article, this learner would use the inductive approach for this article. This approach will allow the researcher and the program administrators to evaluate the program effectiveness through the data that was collected through the pretest, test that were administered throughout the course, and other data. This approach will allow for interviewing the participants throughout the five week program to determine if the students are learning and meeting the intended goal of the International Studies program. The program administrators can also observe the interactions between the participants.

One of the common forms of qualitative data that action researchers analyze is interview data, most commonly in the form of a transcript from the audio recording of the interview. To analyze the data collected from student interviews, I will analyze the interview transcript by carefully reading the transcript to identify broad themes emerging from the data that will help answer my research questions. This in-depth, intimate knowledge and examination of the data will allow me to categorize themes and ideas that will contribute to my understanding of the phenomenon under investigation, and possibly I can find answers to the research questions. The following are guideposts for analyzing data: identify themes, develop a coding scheme, code the data, and finally sort the data by themes (or codes) (Mills, 2018).
Concepts maps are a useful strategy that helps action research participants visualize the major influences that have affected the study (Stringer, 1996, as cited in Mills, 2018). For example, what were the perspectives of the students? Parents? Teachers? Administrators? A concept map gives participants an opportunity to display their analysis of the problem and to determine consistencies and inconsistencies that may exist between the disparate groups. The steps for developing a concept map include the following:
List the major influences that have affected the study of your area of focus.
Develop a visual representation of the major influences (factors) connecting the influences with relationships you know exist (using solid lines) and influences you have a “hunch” about (using dotted lines).
Review the concept map to determine any consistencies or inconsistencies that exist among the influences. This forces you back to your data to see “what’s missing”.
Connecting the data with personal experiences is appropriate because action research is about the teacher researcher's personal teaching practices. The teacher researchers know the study better than anyone else; after all, they have done it in their classroom or school and focused on their students. Interpretations are based on intimate knowledge and understandings of one's school, classroom, teaching, and learning (Mills, 2018). The Highland Park teachers used their prior knowledge of the school's grading system, their students, and their personal grading practices to interpret the data. A second technique for data interpretation involves critical friends. Trusted colleagues may provide the teacher researcher important insights that might have been originally missed. Evaluation of the program is usually done to in order to determine the quality of the program, how effective the program is and how the program is performing. This can help to know if the program is making a significant difference among the targeted people. It can also assist to know if the program is functioning or not. This paper therefore seeks to evaluate the program which is assisting the homeless people within the community.
The two program evaluation questions are: what is the reach of the program? And what has been the impact of the program on the homeless people? The answers to these questions would elicit both qualitative and quantitative results. Therefore, the program evaluation will require both quantitative and qualitative data collection plan. This is because the use of mixed-method approach is convenient since the results and findings would be reliable (Creswell, 2017). A B S T R A C T
The purposes of this study were to evaluate a federal and state-funded Family Caregiver Support
Program (FCSP) and explore what types of caregiver support service are associated with what caregiver
outcomes. Information was obtained on a sample of 164 caregivers’ use of eleven different types of
support service. Descriptive and comparative analyses were used to detect the differences between users
and nonusers of caregiver support services. Six measures included were caregiving appraisal scale,
caregiving burden, caregiving mastery, caregiving satisfaction, hour of care, and service satisfaction.
Using consulting and education services is associated with lessening of subjective burden; using
financial support services is associated with more beneficial caregiver appraisal, such as better caregiver
mastery. The findings are practical and helpful for future caregiver service and program development
and evaluation and policy making for supporting caregivers. In addition, the evaluation method
demonstrated in the study provided a simple and moderately effective method for service agencies
which would like to evaluate their family caregiver support services.

An estimated 52 million Americans function as informal
caregivers of ill or disabled individuals, and 23 percent (22.4
million) of U.S. households are caring for a relative or friend who is
at least 50 years old (AARP, 2004; Coleman and Pandya, 2002). One

work or make another major life change in order to provide care,
and almost one third report the loss of their entire savings (GAO,

Social support is critical to the well-being of children and adolescents (Hughes, 2011).
Positive relationships with others promote health, self-esteem and prosocial behavior (Cohen,
Gottlieb, & Underwood, 2000). Additionally, socially supportive relationships can buffer the
harmful effects of stressful life events, such as an illness, conflict, or parental divorce. The home
and school contexts are the two primary sources of support for most children (Harter, 2012).
Unfortunately, many children do not receive the support they need from these sources
(Zelkowitz, 1987). Given the importance of social support, researchers are currently exploring
other potential sources of support in the broader community. The purpose of this study is to
explore the church as one such potential source of positive relationships, love and affirmation for
children by studying the effects of a relationship-based children’s ministry model.
Background
Every Generation Ministries (EGM) is an international non-profit organization that trains
and resources church children’s workers on six different continents. The churches in many of the
countries where EGM works lack a cohesive model for children’s ministry and tend to follow
cultural norms when ministering to children. For example, churches in Eastern Europe, which are
part of the former Soviet Bloc, are more likely to provide lecture-based instruction focused on
memorization with little opportunity for interaction or relationship-building. EGM develops
national ministry teams which provide leadership development programs and Bible teaching
resources for children’s workers in local churches.
The ministry model is focused on spiritually transforming children through innovative
instructional experiences, positive relationships with adults and peers, small group discussion,

and application opportunities. These pedagogical features are theorized to promote social support
transmission. Prior literature in the school context has found that positive student relationships
with adults and peers can be promoted through smaller learning communities (McNeely et al.,
2002) and the explicit teaching of prosocial behavior (Osterman, 2000), both of which are
meaningful components of the EGM model. Furthermore, child-centered teaching, comparable to
the child-focused elements of the EGM ministry model, have been associated with a greater
sense of classroom community in public schools (Solomon et al., 1996).
The Present Study
In order to evaluate whether it is accomplishing its mission, EGM initiated the Crucible
Project. The Crucible Project is an effort to apply behavioral science research methods to

In the article, “Measuring Change in a Short-Term Educational Program Using a Retrospective Pretest Design”, centered around the Pennsylvania Governor’s School International Studies having a summer program that gives gifted high school students a challenging introduction to the study of internal affairs. The program administrators wanted to understand the effect of the program on the student’s understanding of their knowledge surrounding the core issues (Moore & Tananis 2009). For the past four years the program administrators began using the retrospective pre-post design. The results from the pretest yielded that the students consistently overestimated their understanding of International Studies in the beginning. The program administrator found that using the “retrospective pretest items were more biases than pretest items in certain context” (Moore & Tannis 2009 p200). The authors concluded that the retrospective pretest perhaps could be the most effective way of capturing data that is accurate of pre intervention function than a pretest given before the program begins.
For this article, this learner would use the inductive approach for this article. This approach will allow the researcher and the program administrators to evaluate the program effectiveness through the data that was collected through the pretest, test that were administered throughout the course, and other data. This approach will allow for interviewing the participants throughout the five week program to determine if the students are learning and meeting the intended goal of the International Studies program. One of the common forms of qualitative data that action researchers analyze is interview data, most commonly in the form of a transcript from the audio recording of the interview. To analyze the data collected from student interviews, I will analyze the interview transcript by carefully reading the transcript to identify broad themes emerging from the data that will help answer my research questions. This in-depth, intimate knowledge and examination of the data will allow me to categorize themes and ideas that will contribute to my understanding of the phenomenon under investigation, and possibly I can find answers to the research questions. The following are guideposts for analyzing data: identify themes, develop a coding scheme, code the data, and finally sort the data by themes (or codes) (Mills, 2018).
Concepts maps are a useful strategy that helps action research participants visualize the major influences that have affected the study (Stringer, 1996, as cited in Mills, 2018). For example, what were the perspectives of the students? Parents? Teachers? Administrators? A concept map gives participants an opportunity to display their analysis of the problem and to determine consistencies and inconsistencies that may exist between the disparate groups. The steps for developing a concept map include the following:
List the major influences that have affected the study of your area of focus.
Develop a visual representation of the major influences (factors) connecting the influences with relationships you know exist (using solid lines) and influences you have a “hunch” about (using dotted lines).
Review the concept map to determine any consistencies or inconsistencies that exist among the influences. This forces you back to your data to see “what’s missing”.

Evaluation of the program is usually done to in order to determine the quality of the program, how effective the program is and how the program is performing. This can help to know if the program is making a significant difference among the targeted people. It can also assist to know if the program is functioning or not. This paper therefore seeks to evaluate the program which is assisting the homeless people within the community.
The two program evaluation questions are: what is the reach of the program? And what has been the impact of the program on the homeless people? The answers to these questions would elicit both qualitative and quantitative results. Therefore, the program evaluation will require both quantitative and qualitative data collection plan. This is because the use of mixed-method approach is convenient since the results and findings would be reliable (Creswell, 2017). After identifying the evaluation program questions, the next step will be to come up with plan of evaluating a program. The plan should consist of methods of collecting data, evidences, the person responsible and the duration.

A B S T R A C T
The purposes of this study were to evaluate a federal and state-funded Family Caregiver Support
Program (FCSP) and explore what types of caregiver support service are associated with what caregiver
outcomes. Information was obtained on a sample of 164 caregivers’ use of eleven different types of
support service. Descriptive and comparative analyses were used to detect the differences between users
and nonusers of caregiver support services. Six measures included were caregiving appraisal scale,
caregiving burden, caregiving mastery, caregiving satisfaction, hour of care, and service satisfaction.
Using consulting and education services is associated with lessening of subjective burden; using
financial support services is associated with more beneficial caregiver appraisal, such as better caregiver
mastery. The findings are practical and helpful for future caregiver service and program development
and evaluation and policy making for supporting caregivers. In addition, the evaluation method
demonstrated in the study provided a simple and moderately effective method for service agencies
which would like to evaluate their family caregiver support services.

An estimated 52 million Americans function as informal
caregivers of ill or disabled individuals, and 23 percent (22.4
million) of U.S. households are caring for a relative or friend who is
at least 50 years old (AARP, 2004; Coleman and Pandya, 2002). One
fifth of all family members of seriously ill patients have to quit
work or make another major life change in order to provide care,
and almost one third report the loss of their entire savings (GAO,
1994). Furthermore, financial or other unmet needs may impede
caregivers’ ability to function effectively, both in their own day-to-

Social support is critical to the well-being of children and adolescents (Hughes, 2011).
Positive relationships with others promote health, self-esteem and prosocial behavior (Cohen,
Gottlieb, & Underwood, 2000). Additionally, socially supportive relationships can buffer the
harmful effects of stressful life events, such as an illness, conflict, or parental divorce. The home
and school contexts are the two primary sources of support for most children (Harter, 2012).
Unfortunately, many children do not receive the support they need from these sources
(Zelkowitz, 1987). Given the importance of social support, researchers are currently exploring
other potential sources of support in the broader community. The purpose of this study is to
explore the church as one such potential source of positive relationships, love and affirmation for
children by studying the effects of a relationship-based children’s ministry model.
Background
Every Generation Ministries (EGM) is an international non-profit organization that trains
and resources church children’s workers on six different continents. The churches in many of the
countries where EGM works lack a cohesive model for children’s ministry and tend to follow
cultural norms when ministering to children. For example, churches in Eastern Europe, which are
part of the former Soviet Bloc, are more likely to provide lecture-based instruction focused on
memorization with little opportunity for interaction or relationship-building. EGM develops
national ministry teams which provide leadership development programs and Bible teaching
resources for children’s workers in local churches.
The ministry model is focused on spiritually transforming children through innovative
instructional experiences, positive relationships with adults and peers, small group discussion,

and application opportunities. These pedagogical features are theorized to promote social support
transmission. Prior literature in the school context has found that positive student relationships
with adults and peers can be promoted through smaller learning communities (McNeely et al.,
2002) and the explicit teaching of prosocial behavior (Osterman, 2000), both of which are
meaningful components of the EGM model. Furthermore, child-centered teaching, comparable to
the child-focused elements of the EGM ministry model, have been associated with a greater
sense of classroom community in public schools (Solomon et al., 1996).
The Present Study
In order to evaluate whether it is accomplishing its mission, EGM initiated the Crucible
Project. The Crucible Project is an effort to apply behavioral science research methods to

During the late 1960s and early 1970s, cognitive psychology researchers conducted studies that offered new information about how memory is stored and processed. Findings suggested that memory is first encoded based on sensory data from the environment (sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell), moved to short-term memory, where it can be easily retrieved, and, when rehearsed (i.e., repeated thinking about the memory), moved to long-term memory, where it is stored and can be retrieved at a later date (Atkinson & Shiffrin, 1968; Craik & Lockhart, 1972).
The basic structural information about memory that arose from these early studies, along with the emergence of brain imaging technology, has led to major advancements in our understanding of cognition and cognitive neuroscience. For example, there is a body of literature on the association between PTSD and memory dysfunction. Traumatic memories are thought to be encoded differently than other memories, which helps explain symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety. In addition, experiencing a traumatic event and then consistently reliving it through flashbacks and nightmares can damage the hippocampus, the area of the brain responsible for memory encoding, leading to deficits in short-term memory (Hays, VanElzakker, & Shin, 2012; MacIntosh & Whiffen, 2005). Fortunately, exciting new research on neuroplasticity suggests that the brain is malleable and that it is possible to reverse the damage to certain parts of the brain (Kays, Hurley, & Taber, 2012).

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Bauer,Lambert &Nielsen (2004) stated “ clinical significance refers to changes in patient functioning that are meaningful for individuals who undergo psychosocial or medical interventions” (p 60). Statistically significance would affect my practice decision making in a positive way because it would highlight a specific cause. The benefit would be helping a population that may have been studied before with the same issue and I would be able to connect causation. In the article “Effects of a New State Policy on Physical Activity Practices in Child Care Centers in South Carolina” the study focused on determining the volume to which child care centers in South Carolina improved physical activity practices after a new policy went into effect ( O’Neill et al.,2017). The statistically significance of the study was approached by the state-by time interaction of Physical Activity Environment Total Score in which overall acceptance of new physical standards in SC child care centers was associated with improvements in practices aimed at increasing children’s physical activity ( O’Neill et al.,2017). The study showed a statistical significance between the variable which was the standards of physical activity caused the improvements.
