Contributing to the global commons: Repositories and WikimediaNick Sheppard
There is huge potential for universities and their libraries to leverage Wikimedia in order to expose research outputs and collections. Wikimedia comprises sixteen projects in total, including Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata. At the University of Leeds, the Research Data Management Service have successfully run a project that focuses on linking research data with the Wikimedia suite of tools via a series of ‘editathons’, in order to increase the visibility of research data and enable reuse on Wikipedia and elsewhere. The project - "Manage it locally to share it globally: RDM and Wikimedia Commons" - was the winning submission to a competition launched in May 2018 and sponsored by SPARC Europe, Jisc and the University of Cambridge, called the "Data Management Engagement Award", which aimed to address cultural challenges involved in promoting effective research data practices.
The project has served as a springboard to further explore Wikimedia strategically, both at the University of Leeds and across the White Rose Consortium. For example we are collaborating on a new project looking at Wikipedia citations of research from York, Sheffield and Leeds, and the proportion of these that are open access. The long term goal might be to establish a "Wikimedian in Residence" across the consortium. In this talk, we will present the project's outputs - including a toolkit that will enable other institutions to apply the same methodology. In addition we will explore the potential of Wikidata to link up repositories and other data silos in a manner that enables reuse and increases impact.
Shared Responsibility for the ILS: How Does That Work?Colby Riggs
The presenter will describe a relatively uncommon strategy for managing the ILS. The University of California Irvine Libraries have implemented a management approach for the ILS which decentralizes control and distributes the responsibilities for modules into their respective functional areas. The presentation will include: Prior organizational configurations and the rationale for change; benefits and improvements in service; group structure including the background and skills of its members; allocation of responsibilities and functions within the group; tools and methodologies used by the group, including a work-ticket system, documentation practices and project management techniques; a critical assessment of efforts to-date; and future refinements.

Josie Fraser, Senior Technology Adviser on the National Technology Team, based in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in the UK Government.
Josie will discuss the impact the open knowledge movement has had on education and learning. Looking at the powerful role that Wikimedia UK and Wikimedians have played in bringing UK cultural institutions and their digital collections to new and wider audiences, the talk will also explore how open knowledge partnerships are driving diversity and better representation for all online. She will invite the audience to join her in exploring ideas and opportunities for the future.
The presentation gives an overview on how InfluxDB is involved in the CERN critical projects such as monitoring of accelerator systems, experiments and data centers. It goes into details of the monitoring system upgrade of one of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) experiments – ALICE. In order to ensure high efficiency of the experiment 2000 nodes processing data at 3.4 TB/s are constantly monitored which leads to incredible 600 kHz metric rate. These metrics are collected and aggregated by Flume and Spark and eventually stored in the InfluxDB database, which was selected in an extensive evaluation process.
Presented at a NeDICC (Network of Data and Information Curation Communities) meeting, 14 March 2019, CSIR, and at the University of Pretoria and the Carnegie Corporation of New York Capstone Conference, 24-29 March 2019, Kieviets Kroon.
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated or made more visible many known inequalities across borders and societies. This includes access to archaeological resources, both physical and digital. As both the creators and users of archaeological data adapted to working from their homes, cut off from artefact collections and research data siloed within organisations and institutions, the importance of making data freely and openly
available internationally became even more pronounced. The ARIADNE infrastructure (ariadne-infrastructure.eu) for archaeological data, and the SEADDA COST Action
(seadda.eu) are working to secure the sustainable future of archaeological data across Europe and beyond, in ways that are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Re-usable (FAIR). Experience within the ARIADNE partnership during the pandemic was largely positive, with many partners able to carry on as usual with accessing their digital resources, emphasising what is possible, while also emphasising what is not achievable
across archaeology, due to lack of capacity. ARIADNE and SEADDA invite papers discussing the challenges, opportunities and lessons learned across all aspects of archaeological data management during the pandemic, and how it may change and
inform our best practice going forward. We particularly invite papers from outside of Western Europe on how the COVID-19 pandemic created barriers or opportunities for accessing archaeological resources, so that we may better understand capacity building during a post-COVID era.
