SWORD (Simple Web-service Offering Repository Deposit) will take forward the Deposit protocol developed by a small working group as part of the JISC Digital Repositories Programme by implementing it as a lightweight web-service in four major repository software platforms: EPrints, DSpace, Fedora and IntraLibrary. The existing protocol documentation will be finalised by project partners and a prototype ‘smart deposit’ tool will be developed to facilitate easier and more effective population of repositories.
Harvesting Using the Open Archives Initiative Protocol: What Your OAI Stream ...Sandra McIntyre
Webinar from the Mountain West Digital Library
Sandra McIntyre, MWDL Director
Anna Neatrour, MWDL Digital Metadata Librarian
Want to understand what happens behind the scenes with the MWDL harvesting? In this webinar, Sandra McIntyre and Anna Neatrour will explain the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvestiong (OAI-PMH) and how it makes metadata aggregation possible in the MWDL. They will explain the process of harvesting and how MWDL normalizes your metadata. They will also show you how you can learn from your collections' OAI stream by using the six query verbs (requests) defined in the OAI-PMH.

This presentation gives details on technologies and approaches towards exploiting Linked Data by building LD applications. In particular, it gives an overview of popular existing applications and introduces the main technologies that support implementation and development. Furthermore, it illustrates how data exposed through common Web APIs can be integrated with Linked Data in order to create mashups.
This presentation was provided by Vinod Chachra of VTLS Inc. during the NISO event "Next Generation Discovery Tools: New Tools, Aging Standards," held March 27 - March 28, 2008.
Toward Semantic Representation of Science in Electronic Laboratory Notebooks ...Stuart Chalk
An electronic laboratory Notebook (ELN) can be characterized as a system that allows scientists to capture the data and resources used in performing scientific experiments. This allows users to easily organize and find their data however, little information about the scientific process is recorded.
In this paper we highlight the current status of progress toward semantic representation of science in ELNs.
Scientific Units in the Electronic AgeStuart Chalk
Scientists have standardized on the SI unit system since the late 1700’s. While much work has been done over the years to refine and redefine the system, little has formally done to standardize the representation of the SI units in electronic systems.
This paper will present a summary of current efforts toward electronic representation of scientific units in text, XML, and RDF, an analysis of needs for current computer/network systems, and an outline of future work.

available on those devices, but many of the features provide convenience and capability but sacrifice security. This best practices guide outlines steps the users can take to better protect personal devices and information.
Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
