- 7. 60% of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population uses Facebook. For non-Aboriginal Australia, that number is only 42%.
- 8. According to a 2014 study, 73% of surveyed respondents stated that social media helped them express their identity, while 81% indicated that they felt a sense of being a member of an Indigenous community online via social media.
- 9. 2. The Bad & The Ugly
- 10. 88% of respondents said they had seen examples of racism towards Indigenous people on social media. Most common was the doubting of identity and the use of memes depicting Indigenous people in a derogatory manner.

- Ask questions about social media use (what apps you use/how often you use it/whether you think it’s inherently positive or negative/whether you’ve read the comments on a public post about Invasion Day/gotten into an argument in the comment section/found a doob online/slid into someone’s DMs cause you realised they took their gf/bfs initial out of their insta bio/etc.)
- What are good examples of social media use? How/why can it be effective? What do you use social media for? Having tough conversations safely online. Inspiring offline action?
