Project Based Research:
MUSEUM MAGNET SCHOOL PROGRAM
BACKGROUND
TO THE
RESEARCH (what
are the
issues/current
scenario that
brought light to the
proposed study?)
Malaysian education system has shown remarkable progress in terms of
curriculum and infrastructure. Curriculum in Malaysia has been
diversifying and updated to always meet the current needs of our
country. Similarly, the facilities provided. More and more schools built
and equipped with modern information technology, computer and so on.
However, despite the progress and the facility is still inadequate to the
created and applied without bias, particularly for social science subjects
such as visual art. Facilities and new and different approaches have been
realized as collaboration between the school and the gallery or museum
to raise the interest and better understanding in the learning of the
subject Visual Arts Education.
Museum Magnet School Program is a project-based academic program
conducted in partnership with museums and schools. The program
includes research, writing, creation of objects, the creation of
exhibitions, and public speaking. It emphasizes the critical investigation
and analysis in the learning process-oriented environment and fully
interactive disciplines and expanding beyond the walls of the museum
classroom, community, and world. Programs like this will expose
students to a learning environment that is different from usual because
students can understand what they are learning faster once the teaching
and learning process more effective. This is because students can see
and feel their own examples of historical material or artwork in reality.

STATEMENT OF
THE PROBLEM
(identify the ‘gap’
which you plan to
investigate with the
intention to add
new knowledge to
the existing body
of knowledge)
This study will investigate the influence of a museum or gallery in the
process of teaching and learning in schools for Visual Art Education
subject.
.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
The general objective of this study are:
1. To assess the level of perception,
2. Awareness
3. An importance and effectiveness of
school-museum magnet program in
teaching and learning in schools.
RESEARCH QUESTION
Several questions were identified:
1. the extent of the overall effectiveness
of the School-Museum Magnet
Program.
2. the level of students' perception of the
effectiveness of the school and
School-Museum Magnet program
3. the level of students awareness of the
effectiveness of School-Museum
Magnet Program.
LITERATURE
REVIEW
(summarize relevant
theories and
previous research)
Museum education is a learning process in a way to see the exhibits,
touch the artifacts on display and feel the strength, hear the
explanations given about the collection of artifacts on display, holds a
collection of materials that are shown (experience) through
compilation or collection of artifacts on display at a museum (Condit:
1976).Educational activities at the museum today has found the work
by Kenneth Hudson (1976). He summarizes the current development
of the museum can be developed to introduce the museum through
education around the world to ensure they get the right information
and unfounded.
Museum education will ensure the preservation of cultural identity to
continue to be appreciated by the community. Museum is no longer a
home store or agent for keeping the artefacts.
3
There is a manifest proof of the matters relating to education as noted
by George Brown Goode (1897) at the end of the 19th century.
He suggested that the museum put a label on each of the display so
that the visitors can find out what is seen by them as well as
considering the collection or display material.
Museum became a powerful institution as a means of education.
Education is the theme of the museum is constantly repeated during
the last century not only in literature museum but involve international
museum conferences (International Council of Museums: 1972).
Olofsson (1979) explains in some countries, tourist guide and several
programs have been conducted for the purpose of education in a museum that
can only be used by a small number of students and student groups.
A fact that will set the truth through research done by the researchers,
who carried out the exhibition and science activities related artifacts.
This would be beneficial to better understanding of the past that have
occurred (Stone & Molyneaux: 1994).
The purpose of the museum is to provide education and ensure that
any information supplied about a fact or truth is the truth.
A fact that will set the truth through research done by the
researchers, who carried out the exhibition and science
activities related artifacts. This would be beneficial to
better understanding of the past that have occurred (Stone
& Molyneaux: 1994).
According to Olofsson (1979), the purpose of the museum education
research is to determine the conditions of a flow of information is on
the right, give the professional the opportunity to see the collections
assembled, visitors to view material- exhibits can exchange ideas, their
sesame suggestions and support colleagues who are in the museum
because in their educational priorities of the manifest is still at a low
level to strengthen and foster cultural appreciation through education
and heritage among Malaysians.

This chapter deals with matters relating to the methodology of the
study. Researcher on several aspects of the method that will be used in
this study.
i. Qualitative research
This research employed the qualitative type.
ii. Interviews
Interview method that will be used in this research involves
visual art teachers SMK Kangkar Pulai. The interviews will
also involve some form 4 students from the school.
Documentations
