Nishida supports introducing English courses in elementary schools in Japan for the following reasons: 1) Students should learn English from a young age when it is easier to acquire language skills. 2) Learning basic communication skills like greetings at a young age can motivate students and give them abilities they can use as adults. 3) Basic interpersonal communication skills are important for building good relationships. However, the literature review presents counterarguments: 1) It may be too difficult for young students to properly acquire English skills. 2) Students could learn wrong knowledge and skills from non-native English teachers. 3) English courses would not necessarily cultivate communication abilities or deepen international understanding.
