- Paul has an outdoor job that involves getting his boots muddy (construction, landscaping, etc.)
- Paul lives in a house with front steps rather than an apartment
- Paul takes his muddy boots off on the front steps so he doesn't track mud into the house
Let's discuss as a group and see what other inferences we can reasonably make based on the limited information given. The goal is to practice critically evaluating by separating facts from inferences.

Friends,
In this slide show you will find images of Hindu pilgrims who are doing their
purification ritual in the Ganges River, the holiest river in Hinduism.
One of the most favored spot is Varanasi, a city along the
Ganges River in Northern India.
What is happening in that place? Here is what our textbook tells us: “you will see
people bathing in holy water, drinking it, and praying as they stand in it -- while
the city’s sewage flows into it nearby, and the partially cremated corpses of
people and animals float past. It is one of the world’s most compelling -– and
disturbing -- sights.”
However, to Hindu faithful, “the river’s water is immaculate, and no amount of
human (or other) waste can pollute it. On the contrary: just touching the water
can wash away a believer’s sins.”
This week’s discussion question is this:
What is your honest impression of this purification ritual? Should such a ritual and
tradition considered as primitive or superstitious? If yes, why? If not, why not?
As you know, the foundation of a meaningful discussion is the honesty and
openness of our hearts and minds.
Friends,In this slide show you will find images of Hindu pilgrims who are doing their purification ritual in the Ganges Rive

throughout the essay “Se Habla Español” Barrientos focused on cruelty of the society in
managing its cultural preferences and people’s perspectives.
The other main points are based on how Barrientos had intended to appreciate her background,
she was a Spanish girl but grow up in US and also her experience was simultaneously affected
by the American culture (Roen, 2009). Another central point is that Barrientos illustrated her
efforts and struggles of being a pure Latino but could not know how to speak Spanish. Meaning
that, Barrientos ought to defy stereotypes that were seeming been involved in American culture.
Barrientos was no longer proud of her heritage, and she thought of disdaining her culture.

Visual Learner Analysis
The author is primarily a visual and tactile learner. As a visual learner, they like to read or see how things are done rather than just hear explanations. They prefer taking notes by seeing information written on a board or presented in a visual format, which helps them understand better. As a visual learner, they like things to be very organized, labeled with colors, or otherwise visually structured, as confusion and irritation result from a lack of visual organization. An example of their visual learning is that they need directions to be explained through descriptions and pictures rather than just verbally, so they can visualize how to get to a place.

Paragraph Outline
1. Introduction ending with a thesis:
In her essay entitled “Se Habla Español, Tanya Maria Barrientos explores her heritage and
that of many LatinX individuals. She reflects on her experiences of growing up in the United
States and how she often feels disconnected from her heritage as a person born of Central
American decent. She shares her experiences trying to learn Spanish and how frustrating these
experiences have been. Barrientos also focuses on how these experiences discourage her and
make her feel less Latin. Towards the end of her essay, Barrientos makes her argument clear.
She argues that while many Latinos and Latinas feel the need to speak Spanish so as to identify
with the culture of their parents, they should not feel this obligation.

This document summarizes a literature review on racial microaggressions experienced by students of color at historically white institutions and the impact on their mental health and college experience. The review examines themes in the literature around personal experiences with microaggressions, effects on mental health, and coping strategies used by students. While the data suggests microaggressions negatively impact students of color, the relationships are weak and more research is needed using valid instruments. The review recommends continued testing of instruments and providing social support spaces on campus for students of color.
This curriculum unit explores identity and family migration stories for Latino youth through art and literature. Students will analyze works by Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Joseph Rodriguez and Judith Baca to draw connections between the African American experience and their own families' stories. They will learn about their personal family's migration path and how it relates to achieving the American Dream. As a final project, students will create their own art and tell their family's story through a digital presentation, reflecting on how elements like language, race and class impacted their family's journey. The goal is for students to develop a strong sense of identity and appreciate other cultural experiences through sharing their unique stories.

Read the
following scenario:
Growing up and in college, Jonathan was not exposed to Hispanic, Chicano, or Latino people. In fact, he had no ideas what these terms meant. He had always been comfortable using the term Mexican with his Caucasian friends and family in West Virginia. There was no negative intention in their use of the term, and Jonathan never dreamed that another person would be offended by the word. During one of his first days son the job, Jonathan spent several hours with a trainer named Rosa from the Human Resources Department. As Jonathan and Rosa were in conversation, Jonathan said the following: “I’ve noticed that there are lots of Mexicans who work around here.” He continued: “But you don’t really look like a Mexican, Rosa. You have a very fair complexion.” Not surprisingly, Rosa was offended. In response to Jonathan’s comment, Rosa took the time to explain that some people who identify as Hispanic may not be Mexican or of Mexican descent. She went on to explain that in her case, her mother was of Irish descent and her father’s family came from El Salvador, so she was not Mexican. She also added that Hispanics are a diverse group and they do not have one look.
How should Rosa deal with this situation? Which approach(es) for dealing with ethical challenges (see page 47-48) would be the most appropriate for Rosa? Explain your answer, using examples to provide clarity.
What is organizational culture? Provide an example.

The document summarizes a case study involving a 24-year-old Caribbean immigrant client named Aaron who is experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression. Through several counseling sessions, the client explored issues related to his strained family relationships, feelings of loss and disconnection from his family, and grief over the death of his younger brother. The social worker used theories like family systems theory and attachment theory to understand the client's issues. Key goals were addressing family estrangement, grief, and reducing anxious and depressive symptoms. Understanding the client's cultural background and experiences with immigration was also important to the case.

This document outlines the agenda for an English 101 narrative writing class. It includes discussions on narrative genres, personal charts about an important person, writing about family languages, and blogging. Students will summarize an article in groups and answer discussion questions. They will learn about personal, fictional, and biographical narratives. The class will also discuss a reading titled "Outside, In" and watch a documentary on languages in America. For an assignment, students will blog about the languages in their families and brainstorm topics for a language awareness project.
The document introduces the Mix-d: Project, which aims to help foster parents better understand and support mixed-race children. It discusses key concepts around mixed-race identity, noting that terms like "mixed-race" are preferred to "half-caste" or "coloured." It provides guidance on being emotionally correct rather than politically correct when discussing race, and debunks common myths around mixed-race experiences. The document encourages foster parents to learn about their children's racial identity and heritage in a comfortable and supportive way.

Views on Diversity
Pablo believes that diversity is the most important issue in our culture, and that it is greatly underemphasized. On the other hand, Ralph rarely thinks of diversity, except when it is mentioned in the workplace. Monica is sensitized to multicultural issues because her parents are immigrants who still struggle with discrimination after being here for 20 years.
To obtain a cross-section of what people think about diversity, conduct five-minute interviews with three individuals you don't know well, and assess their views on diversity. You have been provided an
Informed Consent
document for the respondents to sign along with verbally consenting to participate in this assignment. This is to enable that the respondents demonstrate a clear understanding of the meaning and purpose of this assignment. While you are expected to use the informed consent form in keeping with ethical practices for data collection,
you do not need to submit it to the instructor as part of the assignment.
Ask the respondents the following questions and record their answers:
When you hear the word diversity mentioned in the workplace, in the media, or in casual conversation, what meaning do you assign this term?
Does a particular race, ethnic group, or other minority group come to mind when you think of diversity? Does one of these groups pertain to you?
Do you think the majority of people in our culture:
Respect cultural differences among groups of people.
Show indifference to cultural differences.
Lack respect for cultural differences. Explain each choice.
If you were to make a suggestion about how our culture should handle diversity over the next decade, what would it be?
Compile your responses and write a brief reflection paper (two pages) on your findings. Specifically address the following issues:
What did you discover was the general attitude toward diversity in our culture?
Is diversity more associated with one race, ethnic, or other minority group than with others? If so, explain why this might be the case.
Compare and contrast the respondent's views with your own. How would you answer the same questions?
Response should be at least 3-5 pages long (800 Words). All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.

The following questions should serve as a guide for your entry:
· What is one group (racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, gender, religious, social class, etc.) with which you feel you can identify in terms of belonging to this group?
· Would you consider this group a majority or minority group? Why?
· How important is this group identity to you? If it is very important, what do you think makes it important? If it is not, why do you think it is not important to you?
· In what way or ways might this group identity help to shape your view of the world?
· How is your ability to be objective about minority-majority issues influenced, either positively or negatively by this group identity?
Comments:
Carl, you’ve done a very good job on your first journal entry and your application of the concepts of “machismo” and objectivity. See my comment on the definition of minority. Are Hispanics considered a minority only due to their numbers? Other relevant concepts that might apply to what you’ve written here might be symbolic interaction and cultural differentiation.
You needed to apply two theories this week. You might have used social identity theory to explain your feeling of comfort around those like you in terms of the ethnicity and social status. You might also have used Interactionist theory to explain the process of cultural transmission of Hispanic norms and values, especially those that apply to Hispanic males as well as to explain why skin color may be significant in the U.S. while it is not as significant in Latin American countries. Interactionists would also suggest that taking one’s time may be interpreted as being lazy in the US and this might result in conflict. Our culture shapes our perceptions and in turn, this influences how we react to those who are not like us in certain respects. Your APA format is very good overall. If the information cited is quoted material, then you also need to include the page number on which the quoted material is located.
As noted in the instructions, these journals are “practice” for the paper. They are meant to help you in applying concepts and theory, so be sure to follow my comments and the feedback I give you each week. Review the rubric below to see where you need to concentrate on improving your entries. If you do not understand something, please contact me. Thanks! Instructor C :-)
The ethnic group with which I feel I can identify in terms of belonging to this group is Hispanic. I would consider this group to be a minority group and so does society. Although Hispanics have grown significantly in numbers throughout the United States their numbers as far as population goes are still low in comparison to others in the United States[k1] . Hispanics have grown to be the largest minority group in the United States (Parrillo, 2011). Being Hispanic to me is very important. It signifies who I am and what I am about. One thing that makes this identi.
