teenagers are like?!

The British E4 Television show is a great
example of the reputation of teenagers in
the media, it shows every aspect of
teenage life and covers most of the
problems/situations teenagers face.
Often though however they are shown as
irresponsible, anti-hardworking, “pill
taking” youths, who are often good people
but with a bad lifestyle choice.
Although the characters differ in each
series there is a strong theme of smoking,
drugs and alcohol.
SKINS is mainly a negative outlook on the
teenagers of Britain however it does
tackle some serious issues faced by the
teenagers of Britain today.

4. Are teenagers really like this?
• Programmes like Magaluf Weekender and Sun,
Sex and Suspicious Parents would suggest
otherwise… This brings back the “boozy”,
immature, irresponsible stereotype of
teenagers.
• But then there is occasionally the anomaly
where we see teenagers doing good deeds and
being a positive asset to society.

5. Mixed Views
• In general I believe there is a very mixed view
on teenagers in the media, although in films and
articles they are often seen as negative as is
the general stereotype.
• But there is often the opposite view shown as
well, this shows teenagers in two lights. This
challenges the stereotype.
