 Sex and gender stereotypes have existed for
    decades.
 Sexism is prevalent in movies, TV shows, and
    magazines.
 The media portrays sexist stereotypes in
certain ways which may seem controversial to
    many individuals.
 Stereotypes: A widely held but fixed and
oversimplified image or idea of a particular
type of person or thing: "sexual and racial
    stereotypes".

 Sexism: Prejudice, stereotyping, or
    discrimination, typically against women, on
    the basis of sex.
 Hurts people’s feelings
 Limits or interferes with personal
    goals/desires
 Portrays a negative image
 Affects the way people act or dress
 Loss of self esteem/ emotional damage
 Poor body image
 Anxiety, depression, eating disorders
A fairly common stereotype is that women are bad drivers. Not only is
this showed in films, however on comedy shows, news casts, etc…
Another fairly common sexist stereotype is that women are
always the one’s in the kitchen cooking the food, or preparing
some sort of meal.
The media seems to portray blondes to be dumb, or incompetent.
This is shown in movies, such as “Legally Blonde.” They cast the
blondes to be extremely dumb, and unaware of what’s going on, or
confused by their surroundings.
The above Sky Vodka advertisement which aired on
television, shows the mans desire to have full control over an
attractive female, depicting men as “filthy jerks” simply just
looking to get laid.
This advertisement also aired on national television in late 2005.
This depicts that girls are inferior to men. In the ad above, it shows
two women trying to pick up the man, which they clearly can’t.
Here, the man is in control. In the ad it says, “Success is very
demanding…Success is good fun.” This shows that the ultimate goal
of a man is to have beautiful girls around him and enjoy expensive
drinks with them. This could also portray sex… Half naked
girls, alcohol, and a drunk man on a boat in a tropical island.
Dolce & Gabbana’s ad was pulled in Madrid, Spain and Paris, France
because it portrayed a man holding a girl down by the wrists while a group
of men around them stood and watched. Dolce & Gabbana’s campaigns
were branded as “illegal and humiliating to women” by Spain’s Labour and
Social Affairs Ministry. They were later involved in a law suit due to this
sexist ad.
Goodyear polyglass tire
   commercial

This advertisement is about goodyear polyglass tires. In
the ad, it depicts that women are bad drivers. In the
beginning It says “Its more than mileage when your wife
needs to drive alone.” Then it shows the women driving
somewhere and almost as if she seems to be lost or bad
with directions. It ends with saying “Polyglass means
more than mileage.” This means that Poleyglass can
insure safety. Its essentially saying women get into
accidents more than men and polyglass tires can protect
them.
This commercial is sexist because it shows that
women only want a guy who smells nice. And that all
a guy wants is half naked women running to and
surrounding him.
