8. is a type of casual and not formal
communication that can take place between
two or a group of individuals in the
workplace or outside the workplace.
Informal communication in the workplace is
often called ‘grapevine’ and often begins by
employees with social relations.
B. Informal Communication
9. refers to an unofficial and
informal communication
system that operates
within an organization.
The grapevine can be
described as the gossip,
and rumors that circulate
among employees in an
organization.
GRAPEVINE
COMMUNICATION
12. In a single-strand
communication pattern,
information is passed
from one person to
another in a linear
sequence, like a chain.
1. Single Strand Chain
13. In the gossip chain network, there is
an individual who tells the message
to all other members in the network
directly. He is generally the central
person who seeks out and transmit
information to all that he has
obtained. Here, every person in the
network communicates with each
other informally. This network is
often used when the subject matter
is unrelated to the nature of the job.
2. Gossip Chain
14. Under this communication pattern the information
passes randomly from persons to persons. Such as,
there is an individual who acts as a source of message
selects any person randomly in his network to
communicate the message.
3. Probability Chain Network
15. In the cluster chain network, there
is an individual who, acts as a source
of a message, transmits information
to the pre-selected group of
individuals out of whom few
individuals again tell the same
message to other selected group of
individuals. Likewise, the chain
continues, and the message reaches
to all in the network.
4. Cluster Chain
Editor's Notes
Single Strand/Chain: One person communicates with one person and then they go and communicate with another one person. Communication is traveling from one person to another one person.
Gossip Chain: Group conversation where everyone is talking to each other informally.
Probability Chain: Each individual randomly tells another individual the same message.
Cluster Chain: One person shares information with a group of selected individuals and in turn each of those individuals shares that information with others.
