THE IMPACT OF IMPROVISATION OF
SCIENCE LEARNING MATERIALS IN THE
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
OF
GRADE 10 LEARNERS:
BASIS FOR INTERVENTION PLAN
RATIONALE OF THE STUDY
 In these days, emphasis is placed more on developing abilities than on academic
understanding.
 For this reason, improvised experiment materials might be utilized to supplement
scientific lessons and fulfill curriculum requirements.
 Encouraging youngsters to actively explore and learn from their surroundings is the
ultimate goal.
 Students' creativity, imagination, inventiveness, self-confidence, and curiosity are all
enhanced by science activities. They also aid in the growth of critical thinking
abilities.
 Improvisation should therefore not be limited to the domain of teachers. Instead,
students ought to be actively involved in the process as essential components
(Aina, 2013).
 Instead of having students begin science classes with dry descriptions of scientific
terms, they should begin with practical experiments that they are comfortable with.
 The ability to observe, explain, and do actual science is thought to be enhanced by
inexpensive equipment made of locally accessible materials (Sileshi, 2012).
 Improvisation is one of the more affordable methods of experiential learning,
where students can investigate and make use of the materials found nearby.
 The character of science as a method or way to acquire knowledge requires that
different types of materials that science uses instructors in their instruction to
improve the educational benefit to the student.
 Science instruction aims to foster pupils in using not just their minds in addition to
their hands and senses through various procedure abilities perceived as
experiences for learning about science ask.
 This research seek to determine the degree of which creating and use improvised
materials for experiments help students’ achievements in science 10.
RATIONALE OF THE STUDY
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
 This research determines the impact of improvisation of Science materials in the
academic performance of the Grade 10 students at Alcantara National High School,
Alcantara, Cebu for School Year 2024-2025 as the basis for an intervention plan.
Specifically, this research answers the following questions:
1. What is the respondent’s profile in terms of :
1.1. intellectual capacity
1.2. familiarity with the materials/instruments
2. What are the controlled and experimental groups’ results regarding
2.1. pre-test
2.2. post-test
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
3. Is there a significant difference between the pre- and post-test
findings of the experimental and regulated groups?
4. What educational experiences did the participants in the
experimental group have?
5. What kind of educational resources could be developed
using the research findings?
METHODOLOGY
I. Research Design
The mixed method research design that will be use in the study involve
conducting a real-world research experiment. Through experiments, students are
given chance to make and use improvise materials from the environment. The
students will use recyclable materials or anything they get from their surroundings.
Two sections of grade 10 will be used. One section will be the control group
and the other section will be the experimental group. Both groups will receive the
pretest. The control group will be taught without doing the experiment, just a mere
traditional discussion. The experimental group will be taught using the improvised
materials. This style of teaching will be done for one month. After each topic, post
test will be given to each group.
In this research, the researcher will use pretest, posttest and survey form as
instruments for data collection. This will enable to show the impact of improvised
materials in Science.

IV. Instrument
• The instrument to be used in data collection will be the
pretest and post test questionnaire.
• The science material to be improvised will be DNA/RNA
model.
• A pretest is an assessment measure given to participants
before they have undergone some type of treatment as
part of a research study.
• A posttest is an assessment measure given to
participants after they have received treatment as part of
a research study.
