growth in the kidney,ureters or bladder.

• Renal tumours is about twice as common in men as in women.
• Certain medicines ie Acetaminophen:

4. TYPES OF KIDNEY CANCER
•There are several types of kidney cancer:
•Renal cell carcinoma. Renal cell carcinoma is the most
common type of adult kidney cancer, making up about
85% of diagnoses. This type of cancer develops in the
proximal renal tubules that make up the kidney’s
filtration system.
•Urothelial carcinoma. This is also called transitional
cell carcinoma. It accounts for 5% to 10% of the kidney
cancers diagnosed in adults.
•Sarcoma. This type of cancer develops the connective
tissue/fat surrounding the kidney.
5. • Wilms tumor. Wilms tumor/nephroblastoma is most common in
children and is treated differently from kidney cancer in adults.
6. Signs and symptoms
• Blood in the urine (hematuria)
• Low back pain on one side (not caused by injury)
• A mass (lump) on the side or lower back
• Fatigue (tiredness)
• Loss of appetite
• Weight loss not caused by dieting
• Anemia (low red blood cell counts)
7. Types of surgeries
• Nephrectomy(partial or radical/complete
nephrectomy) removal of the nephron.
• Uretectomy: removal of tumours in the urethra
• Cystectomy: removal of tumours in the the bladder
