Providers, specifically our low density specialty physicians, had to physically come in to see radiological reports, patient statuses, sign records and orders as well as do patient documentation. Our administrative staff had to be present within the 26 buildings on Fort Benning to approve time and attendance, do purchase orders, turn on and off the air conditioning system and other critical procedures that could only be performed with direct access to our computer network. With many expensive solutions that require software on remote PCs IMD was faced with a daunting task with no funding. Currently both clinical and administrative staff can, through a web browser, gain secure access to our applications from anywhere in the world through hardware and software that exists at any military health system site. Martin Army Community Hospital is the only site in the Military Heath System utilizing this methodology, but the Army’s Medical Information Technology Center is testing this for an enterprise wide implementation**.
