4. reMixed in the First Schools:
Sam Lord and Andrew Brook
• We took a piece called 2197 composed by Matt Simon, played by Stephen
Upshaw.
• We split this into five segments and the children made up stories to fit the
music, from Haunted Houses to Godzilla to Underwater Sea Creatures
• We showed the children various instruments, such as a theremin and a
balafon, and they used them to make sounds that would fit in with their
story
• They picked one of Stephen’s segments and added in their own sounds to
create a new piece of music.
• Using torches, they created visual effects to illustrate their music and story.

for the children and showed them the range
of sounds that the viola can produce.
The children used Stephen’s performance of
