This report documents best practices of sex worker-led HIV programming organizations in four African countries. It finds that organizations having sex workers directly involved in design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of interventions, and providing leadership, have been most successful. The organizations profiled are from Kenya, Uganda, Cameroon and South Africa. They face challenges due to criminalization of sex work and human rights violations against sex workers. However, the organizations have adopted strategies that provide sex workers with accessible, appropriate services through participation and leadership of sex workers themselves.
