Kristin Lowe reflects on four photos she enlarged in photo class. For the first photo, she kept the bottom unfocused but it was too much. The second photo had strong contrast between black, gray and white. For the third photo on a sidewalk, she tested exposure since the negative was dark at the end. The fourth photo of pots and pans also had good contrast. Overall, the enlargement process went well though some photos needed touch ups with correction pens.

- 1. Kristin Lowe October 20, 2010 Photo 1-Period 4 Reflection My first photo I observed that my negative, for the first photo I was going to attempt to enlarge, had many white spaces. Yet, after my test strip, we decided to only let the final photo be exposed to light for a short amount of time. Although in the photo, I tried to keep the bottom of the photo unfocused a little, but it seemed to be a bit too much. My second photo I chose due to the major contrast between black, grey, and white. Because of the candleholder’s darkness and the table’s leading lines, it draws the viewer’s eye to circulate around the photo. Also, in the negative for this photo, it also showed the contrast of black and white, which is how I knew that it would be a good photo to enlarge.When I had completed the process for producing the test strip, I saw that it did not need to be exposed to the light for very long. After I produced the photo and dried it, there were a few miniature white spots in which I fixed with the correction pens. My third photo was a picture composed on the sidewalk leading up to my apartment building. This picture showed a stair pathway covered with leaves and branches, looking like a tunnel. This composition circulates the audience’s eye throughout the whole photo. Although I noticed in the negative there was quite a bit of darkness at the end of the sidewalk, which would mean it would be light in the photo. So, I placed my test strip at an angle so that I would be able to tell if the light was in too much contrast with the photo. In the end, it was a good turn out. My fourth photo I decided to print a picture of a few pots and pans in a drying rack because it alike the second photo it shows a major contrast between the colors, black, grays, and white. Also, in the negative, this picture looked as if it would be a good photo to enlarge. Once I had enlarged my photo, I noticed there was a white spot near the top of the photos, but I filled it in with the correction pens. Overall, I thought the enlargement process and the photos produced turned out to be good. I am excited to see how the next project, downtown photos, turns out.
