successful technology based companies
• Focussing on developing a new real estate based website
which would make online search for homes viable
• Upto 80% of the home buyers were using Internet in the search of home
• The annual turnover for U.S. Real Estate Market was approximately $ 1.5
trillion in 2004
• The Brokers and agents were rapidly building their own websites
• In a 2004 survey, 41% people said that the search results were not relevant to
their query. Exhibit 2 also quotes that 41.2% people used additional
keywords to their search.
• NAR and MLS posed a strong resistance to online real estate shopping
movement.
• A standard internet protocol ‘robots.txt’ could easily be installed in the coding,
which would restrict the crawlers to access data on the Web.
• They received a feedback to rename their website to ‘RealThin.com’.
• To either get the listing data directly from brokers or to go directly to the MLS.
• A dilemma of whether to launch the website on a National or Local basis.
• Dilemma on Revenue generation model – CPC or Banner advertisements.
• RealWide.com had a competitive advantage by the display of historical comparable
home sale data.

 Providing detailed information about individual communities
 To enhance customer retention such as email alerts and RSS feeds
• Leveraging on google maps for the website to combine mapping features with the
real estate search results.

way it is displayed on the internet.
• The website should be launched on a local basis.
