3. Try to prefict the words before looking at the answer choices.
4. There are a few marks in this section, DON´T spend too much time do it as
fast as you can.
⚫ Just like the incomplete sentences, text
completion requires you to think and
challenge not only the English vocabulary
you possess but your logic as well.
⚫ Directions:
⚫ Read each text, you Will find that there´s a
Word or Phrase missing in the sentences.
⚫ Study the four posible answers and select
the best that completes the sentence.
eg. A) B) C) D) then mark your answer.
EXAMPLE
Keneth and Ian were both______, so they decided to purchase
_____ to share!
A. hungry – a soda
B. exhausted – a meal
C. thirsty – a bevrage
D. Starving – medicine
Explanation: if you choose A sentence does not make sense, if you are hungry you do not
drink a soda it does not make you full, therefore A is an incorrect answer.
B- is an incorrect statement, when you are tired or exhausted you do not think of eating.
D- As you are starving or very hungry you do not think about taking your medicine, therefore D is
an incorrect statement.
C- Thirst is when your body needs to aquire fluids in order to sustain the blood flow in optimal
levels, when you are thisrty you drink a bevrage to crush your thirst. Therefore C is the most
LOGICAL statement.
Steps to Success
1.- Preview the text quickly, DO NOT look at the answer choices.
2.- Read the first sentence with a blank, then study the answer choices. Decide if the FOCUS is
grammar or vocabulary. Ask yourself what is the item testing.
Remember that the vocabulary and grammar tested in part 6 is the same as that used in part 5.
3.- Think about the meaning of the sentence as a whole, and study the Word that comes before
and after the blank. Look at the answer choices and eliminate any answer choices you feel sure
are incorrect.
Sometimes you may need to refer to sentences elsewhere in the text. If you aren´t sure of the
answer, look in the previous and following sentences.
4.- Mark your anser. Then repeat steps 2- 4 for the remaining questions-
Previewing:
Step one involves previewing. Here that
means to read the text quickly. Do not worry
about the missing words nor read the answer
choices. Do not read every Word- just focus
on the key words that contain important
imformation. Your goal is to identify the type
of text ( a letter, e-mail, etc.) and get to the
overall understanding of what is about.
