This document summarizes a talk on reactive programming in ClojureScript using React.js wrappers. It discusses the state of web development, plain JavaScript, frameworks like jQuery and MVC, and React.js. It then covers what reactive programming means, how components react to events and state changes, and how frameworks help address issues with DOM manipulation. Rum and other ClojureScript wrappers for React.js are described as leveraging immutable data structures and providing component mixins. Om.next is discussed as taking inspiration from other systems and focusing on queries over cursors to navigate graph-like data. Datascript is presented as an immutable in-memory database with Datalog querying that can be used to centrally manage application state

ITB2019 10 in 50: Ten Coldbox Modules You Should be Using in Every App - Jon ...Ortus Solutions, Corp
In this 50-minute session, we'll take a fast-paced look at 10 Coldbox modules you owe it to yourself to be using in every application you develop. These modules run the gamut from security and authenticatiom to data serialization, but they all have one thing in common: they will save you hours of repetitive coding and make your life easier!
Yes, you read it correctly, we are jumping from 5.7 to 8.0 (that sounds familiar, doesn't it?). The new version doesn't only change the number but also changes how you write SQL. Recursive queries will allow you to generate series and work with hierarchical data. New JSON functions and performance improvements were also added to 8.0 to help you work on non-relational data. Expect to see what is new and improved in this talk to power up your application even more.
[MongoDB.local Bengaluru 2018] Just in Time Validation with JSON SchemaMongoDB
Presented by: Dinesh Chander
Abstract: MongoDB has always offered application developers a flexible schema. However, in any organization, a number of factors ranging from risk mitigation to policy may drive the need to enforce a more rigid schema. This feature is a boon to developer productivity, enabling applications to evolve naturally with changing requirements without the need to revisit the schema designs at multiple layers of the stack. In this talk, I will provide an overview of MongoDB's implementation of JSON Schema, an industry standard for data validation. I will also outline how teams can introduce JSON schema validation at just the right time in the lifecycle of their applications, balancing the benefits of developer productivity with requirements for strict schema enforcement.
This lecture includes:
1. JavaScript DOM basics
2. Document object (frequently used properties and methods)
3. Element Object (frequently used properties and methods)
4. Node Object (frequently used properties and methods)
5. Location Object (frequently used properties and methods)
6. Window object (frequently used properties and methods)

ClojureScript - Making Front-End development Fun again - John Stevenson - Cod...Codemotion
Front-end development has an amazing assortment of libraries and tools, yet it can seem very complex and doest seem much fun. So we'll live code a ClojureScript application (with a bit of help from Git) and show how development doesn't have to be complex or slow. Through live evaluation, we can build a reactive, functional application. Why not take a look at a well designed language that uses modern functional & reactive concepts for building Front-End apps. You are going to have to trans-pile anyway, so why not use a language, libraries and tooling that is bursting with fun to use.
A service-oriented architecture looks great as boxes and lines on a whiteboard, but what is it like in real life? Are the benefits of flexibility worth the overhead of administration? We've built a framework on top of Finagle that enables a simple approach to building and deploying a microservice with SBT and Scala.
Over the last few months one of our development teams has been working on content-driven mobile apps for multiple customers. The architecture, design and technology choices have gone through various iterations and we have learned a lot along the way. In this talk we want to share some of the experiences we have made, talk about architecture and design decisions. We will discuss some core design concepts that have proven their value, for content-driven mobile apps as well as other types of applications.
FYI readers: SlideShare somewhat messed up the presentation, but it's still quite readable all the way (except slide 44, SlideShare doesn't seem to like the "thinking emoji"). Also, I made sure that the speaker notes gave a lot of insight. I hope this is useful to you!
** SUMMARY OF THE TALK:
Your product (or your client’s product) is kicking butt, and the userbase is ever growing, allowing to hire more engineers to build more experimental features, more interactions, more experiences in your product. Soon, a dreadful problem starts arising: how do you ensure that one team’s work in your crowd of engineers doesn’t unwillingly break or impact another team’s front-end work? How do you scale humans on the front-end while limiting risk?
We’ll briefly look at how that problem is being solved on the back-end in large companies (Google, Apple, Uber, Salesforce) to see what we can learn from it for the front-end, and then we’ll dive in the opportunities that current front-end framework are leveraging. We’ll discuss component-based approaches in particular, since they’re designed as a solution to that problem, and will review the solutions they bring, but also the new challenges, and what future we can expect to them.
(IMPROVED VERSION FROM GEECON)
How can we quickly tell what an application is about? How can we quickly tell what it does? How can we distinguish business concepts from architecture clutter? How can we quickly find the code we want to change? How can we instinctively know where to add code for new features? Purely looking at unit tests is either not possible or too painful. Looking at higher-level tests can take a long time and still not give us the answers we need. For years, we have all struggled to design and structure projects that reflect the business domain.
In this talk Sandro will be sharing how he designed the last application he worked on, twisting a few concepts from Domain-Driven Design, properly applying MVC, borrowing concepts from CQRS, and structuring packages in non-conventional ways. Sandro will also be touching on SOLID principles, Agile incremental design, modularisation, and testing. By iteratively modifying the project structure to better model the application requirements, he has come up with a design style that helps developers create maintainable and domain-oriented software.
In this presentation, we'll explore React’s “Component” based world. We'll go through Virtual DOM, how it works, and React's Virtual DOM vs. the real DOM.
An introduction to a possible implementation of CQRS/ES architecture for a Ruby on Rails app. It starts from Domain Model to arrive to a sample app that implements the Event Sourcing pattern. This presentation was part of Wroclove_rb 2014 conference in Wraclow (PL)
React is a JavaScript library for creating user interfaces by Facebook and Instagram. Many people choose to think of React as the V in MVC.
We built React to solve one problem: building large applications with data that changes over time. To do this, React uses two main ideas.
Simple
Simply express how your app should look at any given point in time, and React will automatically manage all UI updates when your underlying data changes.
Declarative
When the data changes, React conceptually hits the "refresh" button, and knows to only update the changed parts.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Let's dive deeper into the world of ODC! Ricardo Alves (OutSystems) will join us to tell all about the new Data Fabric. After that, Sezen de Bruijn (OutSystems) will get into the details on how to best design a sturdy architecture within ODC.

GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
