How can documentation become inherently Agile?eBranding Ninja
How can you foster a culture that gets your developers excited about documentation? How can you foster a culture that gets your developers excited about pleasing their customers?
Documentation is still the most important thing developers continually respond as most affecting their decision making. Frankly caring about documentation shows you care about the developer, whether external or internal. Yet, documentation is constantly pushed to the wayside, aligning that idea with Waterfall and top-down development. How do you then foster a culture that gets your developers excited to create documentation? And as an extension, how do you get your developers excited about pleasing their customers?
Start out by automating what you can and then creating a process. Documentation is something that requires discipline. It’s up to your team to identify what interruptions are constantly being pointed to as excuses for not completing the documentation. Then, you can put an investment into your documentation, looking to first solve and reduce those interruptions, making documentation the way you address repeated issues and make your customers more autonomous.
Documentation is actually particularly important to the Scrum process, where "documented" is part of the definition of "Done." Documentation can also be a good team-building exercise as it invites everyone to take ownership of their own piece. It also keeps everyone cognizant of keeping the code itself simple and self-explanatory. And it's especially important for team communication and collaboration as, with microservices, containers and the like, our developers gain autonomy, but there's a struggle to work out loud so you know what everyone else is doing.
Finally, someone should be in charge of managing the documentation -- someone with a tech background but some marketing savviness -- to curate it all, helping to make sure it's there and that it tells a clear story that's easy to search through, but that also supports the overall business proposition.

I believe there is no single mobile context. However, top tasks research for one of the four major University Medical Centres in the Netherlands showed that that people who visit the hospital’s site from their home, office or medical practice, have different top tasks compared to people who are either on their way to or in the hospital for an appointment or visit.
Top tasks being different from one context to the other not only demands a mobile or location-optimised (responsive) site, but it also warrants context-specific or responsive content. Content that may not only shift or change priority, based on (mobile or other) context, but perhaps to even change altogether.

We are engaged in an exponentially growing cyber war that we are visibly losing. Within the next 3 years it has been estimated that the global cost will equal, or overtake, the UK GDP, and it is clear that our defences are inadequate and often ineffective. Malware and ransomer-ware continue to extort more money, and cause damage and inconvenience to individuals, organisations and society, whilst hacker groups, criminals and rogue states continue to innovate and maintain their advantage. At the same time, our defences are subverted and rendered ineffective as we operate in a reactive and prescriptive, after the fact, mode with no foresight or anticipation.
In any war it is essential to know and understand as much about the enemy as possible, it is also necessary to establish the truth and validity of any situation or development. Doing this in the cyber domain is orders of magnitude more difficult than the real world, but some of the relevant tools are now available or at an advanced stage of development. For example; fully automated fact checkers and truth engines have been demonstrated, whilst situational awareness technologies are commercially available. However, what is missing is some level of context assessment on a continual basis. Without this we will continue to be ‘blind-sided’ by the actions and developments of the attackers as they maintain their element of surprise along every line of innovation.
What do we need? In short ; a Context Engine that continually monitors networks, servers, routers, machines, devices and people for anomalous behaviours that flag pending attacks as behavioural deviations that are generally easy to detect. In the case of attacker groups we have observed precursor events and trends in network activity days ahead of some big offensive. However, this requires a shift in the defenders thinking and operations away for the reactive and short term, to the long term continual monitoring, data collection and analysis in order to establish threat assessments on a real time.
The behavioural analysis of people, networks and ITC, is at the core of our ‘Context Engine’ solution which completes the triangle of: Truth; Situation; Context Awareness to provide defenders with a fuller and transformative picture. Most of the known precursor elements of this undertaken have been studied in some depth, with some behavioural elements identified on real networks and some physical situations. The unknown can only add more accuracy!
Semantic SEO in the post Hummingbird Era and WordLiftAndrea Volpini
This presentation is focused on Semantic SEO techniques, the importance of curating structured data and the new Google search algorithm called Hummingbird.
The hummingbird in English, is a very fast and accurate bird; in the world of search engines the changes introduced by this new algorithm are enormous. Google begins to understand, using natural language processing (NLP ), the search intent and provides answers instead of the traditional list of blue links.
In this new scenario, it becomes crucial to "curate" your blog contents and link them with publicly available datasets.
WordLift, a WordPress plugin (soon available in its version 3.0), allows us to publish content as Linked Open Data and connects these datasets with the Knowledge Graph of Google (the knowledge base Google uses to "respond" to users' queries).
These slides, made by Kim Renberg and Andrea Volpini, have presented (in Italian) to the WordPress Meetup in Rome (# wproma on Twitter).

The Trail of the Data : Why the library should be the central pivot bringing ...Guus van den Brekel
The purpose of this talk is to explain, emphasize and discuss the growing importance of being abled to identify, track, record and analyse all research related data inside ánd outside the academic hospital environment. The goal is to aim for better insight of the data trail, contributing to research integrity, research impact and societal relevance. The medical library plays a crucial role as partner in collaboration with key stakeholders inside the hospital, and within the university research community. Because of it's unique wide and overall perspective, it has the opportunity to see new possibilities and needs to grasp these new tasks and set new relationships with partners that were previously out of scope.
Background:
The use and development of various research- or healthcare-related datasystems is growing exponentially over the last years. Technical innovations make it possible to much more easily either integrate data systems or create live interacton and data-exchange with sources inside and outside the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). The medical library is trying to pro-actively initiate more awareness, discussion, procedures plus guidelines.
Summary and activities:
From the perspective of the medical library in it's role of managing and facilitating the current research information systems (CRIS, in our case “Pure”), combined with the growing expertise in research analytics and impact, we clearly see the urgency of bringing together healthcare data-systems in the hospital with other research-related systems. This is needed in order to be able to comply to research integrity, legal and ethical requirements, but also to enable better use of the research data for analytical purposes to support various processes in academic career development and research assessment.
Identifying relations between research output and healthcare data is one thing, but actually creating and registering these relationships in the research information systems is a task where the library can take a leading role.
In the UMCG it is mandatory to register each scientific project in which (new or existing) data and/or biomaterials of human subjects (patients and/or healthy volunteers) are involved. The library has been involved –together with many other stakeholders- in the development of this internal "Research Register" and the UMCG data catalogue, with the main focus to make integration possible with Pure for research output and authors.
In order to improve visibility and findability in general, the library advised in creating publishing guidelines for several UMCG affiliations including the Cohort and Biobank Coordination Hub (with 150+ UMCG Cohorts & Biobanks) with focus on making relations and connection possible between the data systems, research output and other research-related items.
The library is co-admin for the UMCG for all clinical trials registered at ClinicalTrials.gov. Together with Research Office we are working on research
Into The User Environment 2022! EAHIL2022 plenary presentationGuus van den Brekel
“ Into the User Environment Now!» was the title of my first plenary presentation at an EAHIL conference.
It pictured how -back in 2006- how users and the information landscape changed rapidly, and what we needed to do about it as medical libraries, to keep up the pace, to not loose the connection with the user.
Technologies to embrace, actions to take…
This update pictures where things went right, wrong or very different! And it discusses where we are now in 2022, with a peek into possible futures, from the perspective of a medical library in a Dutch academic hospital, facilitating patient care, education ánd research support.
Biography and Bibliography
Guus van den Brekel is medical information specialist at the Central Medical Library of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), in north of the Netherlands. His work includes developing, maintaining of library services and tools for staff and students, as well as innovation. As such he is also the ‘go-between’ for the IT-departments regarding library systems and services. Research Impact and Support is his major focus currently. He is coordinator for the UMCG’s current research information system (PURE). In general, he is always on the lookout for tools & services that make the workflow of hospital staff, researchers, teachers and students easier and more efficient. #eahil2022

Nutraceutical market, scope and growth: Herbal drug technologyLokesh Patil
As consumer awareness of health and wellness rises, the nutraceutical market—which includes goods like functional meals, drinks, and dietary supplements that provide health advantages beyond basic nutrition—is growing significantly. As healthcare expenses rise, the population ages, and people want natural and preventative health solutions more and more, this industry is increasing quickly. Further driving market expansion are product formulation innovations and the use of cutting-edge technology for customized nutrition. With its worldwide reach, the nutraceutical industry is expected to keep growing and provide significant chances for research and investment in a number of categories, including vitamins, minerals, probiotics, and herbal supplements.
Earliest Galaxies in the JADES Origins Field: Luminosity Function and Cosmic ...Sérgio Sacani
We characterize the earliest galaxy population in the JADES Origins Field (JOF), the deepest
imaging field observed with JWST. We make use of the ancillary Hubble optical images (5 filters
spanning 0.4−0.9µm) and novel JWST images with 14 filters spanning 0.8−5µm, including 7 mediumband filters, and reaching total exposure times of up to 46 hours per filter. We combine all our data
at > 2.3µm to construct an ultradeep image, reaching as deep as ≈ 31.4 AB mag in the stack and
30.3-31.0 AB mag (5σ, r = 0.1” circular aperture) in individual filters. We measure photometric
redshifts and use robust selection criteria to identify a sample of eight galaxy candidates at redshifts
z = 11.5 − 15. These objects show compact half-light radii of R1/2 ∼ 50 − 200pc, stellar masses of
M⋆ ∼ 107−108M⊙, and star-formation rates of SFR ∼ 0.1−1 M⊙ yr−1
. Our search finds no candidates
at 15 < z < 20, placing upper limits at these redshifts. We develop a forward modeling approach to
infer the properties of the evolving luminosity function without binning in redshift or luminosity that
marginalizes over the photometric redshift uncertainty of our candidate galaxies and incorporates the
impact of non-detections. We find a z = 12 luminosity function in good agreement with prior results,
and that the luminosity function normalization and UV luminosity density decline by a factor of ∼ 2.5
from z = 12 to z = 14. We discuss the possible implications of our results in the context of theoretical
models for evolution of the dark matter halo mass function.

Extrachromosomal Inheritance
Slide 2: Introduction to Extrachromosomal Inheritance
Definition: Extrachromosomal inheritance refers to the transmission of genetic material that is not found within the nucleus.
Key Components: Involves genes located in mitochondria, chloroplasts, and plasmids.
Slide 3: Mitochondrial Inheritance
Mitochondria: Organelles responsible for energy production.
Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA): Circular DNA molecule found in mitochondria.
Inheritance Pattern: Maternally inherited, meaning it is passed from mothers to all their offspring.
Diseases: Examples include Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) and mitochondrial myopathy.
Slide 4: Chloroplast Inheritance
Chloroplasts: Organelles responsible for photosynthesis in plants.
Chloroplast DNA (cpDNA): Circular DNA molecule found in chloroplasts.
Inheritance Pattern: Often maternally inherited in most plants, but can vary in some species.
Examples: Variegation in plants, where leaf color patterns are determined by chloroplast DNA.
Slide 5: Plasmid Inheritance
Plasmids: Small, circular DNA molecules found in bacteria and some eukaryotes.
Features: Can carry antibiotic resistance genes and can be transferred between cells through processes like conjugation.
Significance: Important in biotechnology for gene cloning and genetic engineering.
Slide 6: Mechanisms of Extrachromosomal Inheritance
Non-Mendelian Patterns: Do not follow Mendel’s laws of inheritance.
Cytoplasmic Segregation: During cell division, organelles like mitochondria and chloroplasts are randomly distributed to daughter cells.
Heteroplasmy: Presence of more than one type of organellar genome within a cell, leading to variation in expression.
Slide 7: Examples of Extrachromosomal Inheritance
Four O’clock Plant (Mirabilis jalapa): Shows variegated leaves due to different cpDNA in leaf cells.
Petite Mutants in Yeast: Result from mutations in mitochondrial DNA affecting respiration.
Slide 8: Importance of Extrachromosomal Inheritance
Evolution: Provides insight into the evolution of eukaryotic cells.
Medicine: Understanding mitochondrial inheritance helps in diagnosing and treating mitochondrial diseases.
Agriculture: Chloroplast inheritance can be used in plant breeding and genetic modification.
Slide 9: Recent Research and Advances
Gene Editing: Techniques like CRISPR-Cas9 are being used to edit mitochondrial and chloroplast DNA.
Therapies: Development of mitochondrial replacement therapy (MRT) for preventing mitochondrial diseases.
Slide 10: Conclusion
Summary: Extrachromosomal inheritance involves the transmission of genetic material outside the nucleus and plays a crucial role in genetics, medicine, and biotechnology.
Future Directions: Continued research and technological advancements hold promise for new treatments and applications.
Slide 11: Questions and Discussion
Invite Audience: Open the floor for any questions or further discussion on the topic.
Richard's entangled aventures in wonderlandRichard Gill
Since the loophole-free Bell experiments of 2020 and the Nobel prizes in physics of 2022, critics of Bell's work have retreated to the fortress of super-determinism. Now, super-determinism is a derogatory word - it just means "determinism". Palmer, Hance and Hossenfelder argue that quantum mechanics and determinism are not incompatible, using a sophisticated mathematical construction based on a subtle thinning of allowed states and measurements in quantum mechanics, such that what is left appears to make Bell's argument fail, without altering the empirical predictions of quantum mechanics. I think however that it is a smoke screen, and the slogan "lost in math" comes to my mind. I will discuss some other recent disproofs of Bell's theorem using the language of causality based on causal graphs. Causal thinking is also central to law and justice. I will mention surprising connections to my work on serial killer nurse cases, in particular the Dutch case of Lucia de Berk and the current UK case of Lucy Letby.
Deep Behavioral Phenotyping in Systems Neuroscience for Functional Atlasing a...Ana Luísa Pinho
Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) provides means to characterize brain activations in response to behavior. However, cognitive neuroscience has been limited to group-level effects referring to the performance of specific tasks. To obtain the functional profile of elementary cognitive mechanisms, the combination of brain responses to many tasks is required. Yet, to date, both structural atlases and parcellation-based activations do not fully account for cognitive function and still present several limitations. Further, they do not adapt overall to individual characteristics. In this talk, I will give an account of deep-behavioral phenotyping strategies, namely data-driven methods in large task-fMRI datasets, to optimize functional brain-data collection and improve inference of effects-of-interest related to mental processes. Key to this approach is the employment of fast multi-functional paradigms rich on features that can be well parametrized and, consequently, facilitate the creation of psycho-physiological constructs to be modelled with imaging data. Particular emphasis will be given to music stimuli when studying high-order cognitive mechanisms, due to their ecological nature and quality to enable complex behavior compounded by discrete entities. I will also discuss how deep-behavioral phenotyping and individualized models applied to neuroimaging data can better account for the subject-specific organization of domain-general cognitive systems in the human brain. Finally, the accumulation of functional brain signatures brings the possibility to clarify relationships among tasks and create a univocal link between brain systems and mental functions through: (1) the development of ontologies proposing an organization of cognitive processes; and (2) brain-network taxonomies describing functional specialization. To this end, tools to improve commensurability in cognitive science are necessary, such as public repositories, ontology-based platforms and automated meta-analysis tools. I will thus discuss some brain-atlasing resources currently under development, and their applicability in cognitive as well as clinical neuroscience.

Editor's Notes
Coordinator, no editor, no reviewer, although second life..
Author.... Well, nothing compared to previous speakers
facilitating
Still very Exited to work here
Dynamic, combination heath care, education and research inside this house.
Processes that all basically all evolve around INFoRMATION!,
Research, authors
But also excited because what is going on outside!
Great place, exciting environment
Inside but also outside!
Medical library CMB, beautiful place where mainly students use our facilities en services in the physical library.
Staff is mainly using the digital library
But there is a huge part of our services, resources and tool, digital library,
At bottom, traditional library services and role
At top: Into The Workflow
The cause or at least an important cause is the Web. I want to show what scientist are doing and looking for on the Internet and why
Trends!!!
The introduction of the HP IPAQ as standard mobile phone in hospital was a breakthrough. Doctors, specialist Researchers can be pretty independent, and IT standards in a large organisation can be pretty restrictive, or at least lacking a bit behind in latest innovations...
Anyone recognizes this?
With this phone they were abled to manage things themselves, email became portable, accessible outside, schedule/calendar, and .... The web!
Web 2.0 gave users even more control and creativity to make things work their way...
This was the time of the so-called "pirate" era
It are these things that actually invite researchers.
Jisc Libraries of the Future Debate 2009, he also said the researchers are bypassing the library… he mentioned a scientist that was actually mainly using the offered space and tools by the publisher, and the web. And wasn’t been in the library for quite a time. Physicall or digitally
The effect is not as strong in all areas of science. Roughly you could say that probably it is related to the percentage of electronically available content in the field. In science and medical science in particular the perception of the library.
When I was at a meeting of our Epidemiology Department in a room full with researchers, student and medical staff. I was there to talk about new services and resources. First problem is a common know problem, Library disconnect, unaware, wrong perception of library services and content, invisibility of the library. I had a hard time explaining why they should not only use Google Scholar, and also why some content on the web, seemingly freely available on the web was not all fulltext available for them. They told me they have various ways and systems to get what they want, .. But without going to the library. Hard to find, hard to use, too much, convusing, while it all seems to be out there on the web, for free and easy to use…
Which brings me to the second related problem. Not only are they disconnecting from the library, but also are they getting the information elsewhere or arranging &making it themselves. They bypass the library completely there. We want to do something about that.
I'de like to know if this is simular to your organisations?
The amount of external corporate cms activity is an indication for the level of user-driven IT-development and support ( or the lack of it)
Science 2.0 research 2.0
Open science ....
What are they looking for?
So much to choose!
Where is innovation and web stuff influences workflow of research?
Where is the connection with the library, my focus!
You will see a couple of services and tools in a short while!
What are they looking for?
So much to choose!
Its about choice. The user chooses.
And the library facilitates, advices, keeps them in the loop on the options
Research Data Management
A special service department in the UMCG is created to support research in statistical, technical and other ways, for, in most cases clinical studies and projects, http://tcc.umcg.nl/en/26/Statistiek.html. (this not related to the library)
For data management they never thought of the library as possible partner, neither for selection or critical appraisal of literature, or for making publications lists available etc.
The idea
My main belief is still that libraries will never be no 1 on the priority list of any researcher; the actual research will always be his primary focus. Stuff that libraries do or supply can only marginally contribute to his work directly.
If we understand this complex process of research in detail, we will be able to identify where exactly libraries can facilitate.
Basically i think the primary workflow of the individual researcher is a good way to start
A few years ago we were not involved in any support to researchers specifically, other than the document delivery system.
Research programs and departments can work very autonomic and because of separate financing they like to act pretty independent.

Integration & embedding
We are (just now) involved in the new Electronic Patient Record System. (EPD) to think about integration of scientific literature or any library services/licenses, for improve the updating mechanism for instance protocols, but also to support the research activities, collecting data during patient care. We don’t want researchers (but not only them of course) have to leave this system to go and search for literature. Relevant here is also the selection, saving, re-use of references & lists.
¥ Two of our colleagues talk on regular basis with educational and research coordinators across all departments of the UMCG. These tours take two years before returning to the first department again. Almost every visit generates new tasks or request, workshops, demos etc.
Search Smarter with Google
Google is the most used search engine, but most users don't use its full power. Learn how to search more effectively with Google in this short , practical workshop
iPad on Loan
¥ The iPad on loan project introduced also researchers to this new innovative instrument, giving them more control, and even new ideas to reorganize work. How they can be more efficient, working towards paperless meetings. The library is now seen by many in the hospital as a partner to take part in many projects touching it- and information management. Working together in these projects giving advice & input about the needs of users (including researchers) is very rewarding and boost again the perception of the library in general. We advise individuals in relevant apps and technology to help their workflow, communication, writing, searching etc.
