Design patterns are optimized, reusable solutions to the programming problems that we encounter every day. A design pattern is not a class or a library that we can simply plug into our system; it's much more than that. It is a template that has to be implemented in the correct situation. It's not language-specific either. A good design pattern should be implementable in most—if not all—languages, depending on the capabilities of the language. Most importantly, any design pattern can be a double-edged sword— if implemented in the wrong place, it can be disastrous and create many problems for you. However, implemented in the right place, at the right time, it can be your savior.

Capturing Creativity in Times of COVID: A Weekly Virtual Live Show
Lisa D'Adamo-Weinstein - SUNY Empire State College
Creative Expressions was a weekly virtual arts and culture series conceived of during the COVID-19 pandemic. In an attempt to recreate the in-person sharing of art, music, poetry, and other forms of creative works typically experienced at an annual college event, the series began as an experiment led by the faculty of the School of Arts and Humanities. That first session was so well received, that I continued to host and organize the show every Thursday for 30 weeks.
There were a total of 89 individuals - 34 staff/faculty presenters and 56 student/alumni/guest presenters - who shared their creative talents at least once as part of the series.
Approximately 790 attendees came to the Zoom platform across all 30 sessions. You can find the recordings, materials, and all biographical information about the presenters at the Creative Expressions website.
For this presentation, I will talk about the lessons learned and possibilities for educators to use Zoom and Google Sites to create a shared space for their students and school communities to celebrate the arts and other topic areas to build community, celebrate creativity, and develop an OER resource.

Thre3Style UPRE-EVENT
-READ through all documents and forms prior to beginning the planning stages and familiarize yourself with ALL DJ
vocabulary and required equipment to reduce confusion.
-Application phase should require 2 weeks to ensure major DJ’s are invited to apply.
-Contact all DJ’s personally – do not count on other DJ’s to spread the word, even though it may seem helpful.
-Ask for phone numbers, email addresses, and home addresses with the application.
EVENT
-Work out a guest list days in advance for the DJ’s at the venue while working with the promotional group to find an
allowable amount of guests.
-Do not over-brand the venue
-Foam core boards (3) were placed behind stage, behind judges, and entrance walls
-Print the run of show to hand to DJ's, judges, MC, etc. to keep everyone on the same page
-Print W9's for all DJ's and have them complete them BEFORE the competition so they can be handed a check
immediately afterward without chasing them around for paperwork
-Keep DJ's together during competition (VIP was used)
-VJ absolutely needs to be a part of rehearsal
-Keep the stage clear and limited from the beginning to reduce the chances of overcrowding. Only media, next DJ and MC
should be on stage.
-Have a skilled photographer shoot video and photos.
-Begin to tabulate scores BEFORE the end of the last DJ’s set to reduce wait time before the winning DJ is announced.
-2nd place was given a $200 gift card to the venue.
-MC and staff should not be allowed to consume alcohol while working.
POST-EVENT
-Personalized thank you cards should be sent out to all DJ’s, MC, account, promoters, etc. for their help.
